St. Louis Officials Encourage Celebrating Blues Fans To Just Burn City Down And Finally End This 48 minutes ago ST. LOUIS—Saying that the city has had this coming for a long time and this moment was as good a time as any, St. Louis officials encouraged fans celebrating the Blues Stanley Cup victory Wednesday to just burn the city down and finally end everyone’s suffering. “To all the Blues fans out there who may be smashing windows or starting fires, all we can say is: Absolutely do that. We’ve dealt with this place for far too long, and we are ready for it to die,” said Mayor Lyda Krewson, who claimed the city was taking steps to aid any rioters by placing bins full of bricks, lighters, and baseball bats around the St. Louis along with idling bulldozers that any Blues fan could commandeer free of punishment. “Obviously, a lot of fans are going to be drunk, and we think that’s great. As long as you’re damaging property, the police aren’t going to bother you—in fact, they might even be ordered to help. Crash cars into buildings, tear apart bus stops, pull down the ****ing Arch for all we care. It’s over. St. Louis isn’t worth it. We don’t give a shit anymore.” At press time, Mayor Krewson was seen greeting celebrating fans on the street before grabbing a trash can and smashing in the window of a liquor store. |

Fire Blake (whoever that is) should get a prize for getting zero points despite filling out a full bracket. He somehow managed to pick every series wrong in the first round. |

I can't believe I finished fourth. That's got to be the shittiest fourth in the history of challenges like that.
Everybody who finished behind me should be ashamed of yourselves. |

And now it's official:

Here's the #stlblues winning their first Stanley Cup in franchise history set to "My Heart Will Go On". pic.twitter.com/PvK5nKomoD
— Thomas Welch (@twelcher15) June 13, 2019
Hockey fans are ridiculously superstitious so I've done my level best to (mostly) stay out of this thread since we were winning when I wasn't in it. But now that's it's done, short of the Chiefs winning the Super Bowl, this would be the most amazing sports experience of my lifetime. Even the Cards winning the World Series isn't the same because it's just not the Cup. It truly is the most difficult trophy in sports; an agonizing 2 month long slog with guys just beating the holy shit out of each other for weeks at a time. And for this team to do it after what Mike !@#$ing Yeo nearly did to them is truly remarkable. And there are stories EVERYWHERE. Jaden's sister, RoR, Tarasenko's maturation, Petro and his wife (truly incredible people), Parayko turning into a Norris winner, Bouwmeester getting healthy, Binnington existing, Steen humbling himself, Schenn being acquired for a draft pick and a drug dealer, Perron being on his 3rd go, Sanford's re-emergence after his dad died, Sunny and Barbashev emerging from nowhere, Maroon the hometown kid, Berube's interim tag, Gunner at the pisser. On and on and on this team has been a rush. And now they're going down to OB Clark's in STL and literally passing the Stanley !@#$ing Cup through the crowd. Brett Hull's favorite chinchilla has just been chilling in it. Binnington's getting cuffs put on him by STL PD for 'stealing game 7' and the Captain is just out there hugging randos. It's so surreal and just so ****ing cool. We'll never forget this team. For the rest of my natural born life I'll associate 27 with Petro instead of Rolen. Schenn owns 10 now (sorry Dallas Drake) and Mayers lost his 21 to Tyler Bozak. Hell, I see a #18 clown jersey and I think "why does someone have a Keenan Era jersey with Rob Thomas on the back?" and don't even think about Tony Twist. What a rush this squad has been and as Blues fans we couldn't have asked for anything more. Especially not after seeing Marchand cry like a little ****ing girl. Inject this shit directly into my veins boys... |
I gotta admit, I'm still riding a high from this cup win.
Wow, just WOW!!! |
Jesus Christ, if I ever quit drinking the cumulative hangover might kill me.
Yesterday at OB Clark's was a ****ing blast. Maroon still hadn't changed out of his suit from the flight and was completely smashed at 11am. ROR had the Conn Smythe with him, and the Cup finally showed up around 4 and left to head to Clayton on the Park around 9-ish. These guys are gonna give Ovi a run for his money in the celebration department. |

Thank you for posting these videos. Almost teared up again watching them. |
I thought the NHL Awards show last night, being in Vegas and all, was pretty tame. The most interesting part was seeing James Holzhauer of Jeopardy fame giving out an award. I thought since the Lightning was swept in the playoffs that it hurt Kucherov's chances of winning MVP, Hart Throphy but he won.

B) He was so clearly the MVP this season that absent murdering a nun on live television right before the final votes were due, he'd have still won it. Kucherov was pretty clearly the best player in the league this season. Though I was frustrated that RoR didn't sneak into the top 10 (though Binnington did). Even before the Blues went on their tear I was suggestion that RoR should've gotten some down-ballot consideration for how well he was playing even when the Blues weren't. When they caught fire I thought he might even end up a dark horse for top 5 consideration. To end up at 13 is kinda bullshit. |

I get why they'd trade Barrie.... but for Kadri? Really? And they had to throw in a guy who had just as many goals last season as Kadri did?
|
Quote:
Landeskog Kadri Calvert Wilson Regarding Kadri specifically...eh, I dunno. We needed a 2C to replace Carl, and I guess he's it. Tough to know what other options were out there. |
Quote:
Basically, the Leafs downgrade their 3C but add a top RHD who has 50% of his salary retained by the trading team. Kadri had a down year getting bumped down to 3C by Tavares, but, I'm sure he'll be a fine 2C for the Avs. Sad to see him go but the return seems like it's well worth it for the Leafs. |
Quote:
It's one of those rare trades that is really a win win IMO. |
Quote:
In terms of value players in the NHL, at the top is No. 1 Center, next is first pairing RHD due to the rarity. An example of the value of RHD would be the trade between Columbus and Nashville, where Columbus sent No. 1 Center Ryan Johansen to Nashville for RHD Seth Jones. There are very few teams that have an abundance of RHDs. To get a top pairing RHD for a 2nd/3rd line C and marginal LHD + Have the Avs retain half of the cap hit + a 3rd line Center to replace 2nd/3rd line C seems like a win for the Leafs. Long term the Avs may win it, but Leafs fans need a cup 52 years ago and that was a bit of a steal. |
Yeah, I think teams are wising up to not giving up a ton for pending UFAs, even for a whole season.
I'm somewhat surprised they had to throw in Kerfoot as well, but I assume there's little to no chance the Leafs resign Barrie, and possibly not Kerfoot... and the Avalanche weren't going to resign Barrie. After the initial shock and looking at the whole picture, I think it's a pretty decent deal for both teams.... the Leafs obviously don't need Kadri, and the Avalanche wouldn't be ready for a run at the Cup with Barrie if they still didn't have the scoring depth. The Leafs are obviously looking at taking the next step this coming season, while the Avalanche are still looking down the road a couple/three seasons. |
