My bad...you are talking about the past. Well, Matt Cassel once had back-to-back 300 yard games. That said...I wouldn't call a 1:2 TD-to-Int ration "Solid". He is average...at best. |

The dude sucks and is overpaid. If the backup QB position mattered at all, he'd be another Matt Cassel that we'd have to deal with. It's just an all-around bad situation, where a guy's contract will likely elevate him over somebody with more talent who absolutely deserves the better roster position far more. What's it gonna take for you to get some sense on this? I almost wish Alex would go down for a few games just so you could see how terrible of a spot we'd be in if Daniel had to fill in. |
Daniels has shown exactly nothing in 4 years. Nothing.
|
Outside of being short, I'm not seeing the outrage towards Daniel. He's a highly accurate QB that could fill in for a pinch. Most of the league is done when their starter goes down anyway.

With that being said, and even though I am a Mizzou homer, I really do hope Bray flourishes and eventually overtakes #2 AND #1 spots. But I have no reason to believe that as of yet. |

here's my bold prediction on kc's QB situation: Bray will definitely make the final roster as the #3 QB, even if he outplays every other QB on the roster, including Smith. Kc is tied to Smith for at least the 2013 season and possible for the next 2 seasons. The reason I'm predicting Bray will be the #3 QB is because IF Smith goes down with an injury, this will allow kc to keep Bray on the bench while the #2 QB fills in. In other words, it's a way of protecting Bray.
If kc doesn't draft another QB then I predict Bray will be the starting kc QB in 2-3 years. |
He's a more intriguing talent than Assweiler...At least we have that.

Tyler Bray was the most impressive QB at camp today. Clean throws and showing off his big arm. Did have a few near picks, but none were caught. Ricky Stanzi has become an after thought at practice. The writing is on the wall for the former Hawkeye.
No practice on Wednesday, so we will see you in St Joe on Thursday morning. |

I can see that many people dont like Daniel, for whatever reason. Whether its where he played college ball or he is under sized. I think we shouldnt forget that he won and earned the backup spot to arguably the best QB in football and was chosen by some the the best QB coaches to have that spot. They trusted him with Brees's offense. He was undrafted (like Bray) and earned his spot on the Saints best teams 09-10. To say he is terrible is a little off base. In his time to get some football on tape, he has played well and showed he belongs. Bray obviously has the more conventional tools, but lets be honest. He is garbage, dude could break a hammer and you do not want him for your QB! He has and always will be a headcase who breaks down when needed most. Its what he was known for at Tennessee.
|
Quarterback Tyler Bray also had a couple of noteworthy plays. On one occasion, he threw a bullet to tight end Demetrius Harris over the middle for what appeared to be a sure touchdown pass, but the diving Harris could not come up with it. Bray bounced back, though, as he found receiver Tyler Shoemaker on a slant for a touchdown on the next play.

Bray must have been told to quit tweeting everything he is doing throughout the day.
Hasn't said shit since returning to KC. |

He had an arm and size. And an "attitude" whatever the **** that means. Good luck making a QB out of him. Those guys never ****ing work out. Doesn't mean Bray is much better off, but at least he could occasionally connect right on the button on long throws. |
Bray fans - he's presently terrible.
I watched him on Monday and a friend of mine went out on Tuesday and came back with the same reports. Tyler Bray doesn't belong on the same field with Smith or even Daniel right now. He has no understanding of the offense and his mechanics are just brutally terrible. I desperately want the guy to succeed and in the end I think he will, but he is so so so very far away. He was doing shit you'd yell at HS quarterbacks for doing out there. The worst I saw was on a swing pass he didn't move his lower body at all. He dropped back, hit his drop, stepped forward turned his shoulders 75 degrees to the rest of his body and threw the ball straight at the RBs feet. It was the staggeringly awful. No lower body movement at all - just a spike straight into the dirt. I'm not sure if I'm rooting for lazy or stupid there, but it was one of the two that led to that kind of piss-poor effort. And it wasn't much different for anything else he did on Monday. He clearly looks the part (he could easily see the field on his drop backs) and on a throw or two in the individual drills he looked very good. But in team drills and full contact drills, there was little/no separation between his performance and Stanzi's. I can't overstate just how bad he was out there. You guys need to slow down on Tyler Bray. He's incapable of winning football games at this level right now. The talents there, but I was shocked at just how far he has to go before he even reaches below average. |

Pre-season games will tell us a lot. But like I said, you fellas know I'm a fan of Brays and have been for awhile. I was stunned by how green the kid was. I wanted to be in awe of him. And when I stood behind the line and watched the plays, I understood why coaches are so enamored of height in their QBs - it really was amazing how much easier he could see the field than Daniel and even Smith - he just didn't seem to know what to do with what he saw. There are skills there, but don't be surprised if he looks like shit on a fair occasion. There are a ton of warts there as well. |
First bad report I have read on Bray.
Thanks for your opinion. |
As an aside (and because I don't feel like posting a new thread about it), Knile Davis looked freakin' outstanding. He runs with outstanding power and balance. I don't think he's all that shifty, but when he saw a seam he hit it and with authority.
I saw a fumble, but I don't know if it was him that was carrying. I don't think it was; it's tough to keep track of who's on the field all the time. And I also saw one of the strangest things I've ever seen on a football field. On the first play of contact STs play, Travis Kelce rocked Colquitt. It would've been a late hit even if it wasn't a practice. Kelce literally power dropped the guy; picked him and drove him into the ground. Odder still was the fact that he hesitated before he did it...then did it anyway. Needless to say, Reid got in his ear and then another coach I didn't recognize did the same. I couldn't for the life of me understand what he was thinking there. |
DJ is the first to report that Bray has looked awful

And maybe I just caught him on a bad day. I really hope that's all it is because I still have very high hopes for the guy. I was more excited about watching him perform on Monday than anyone else there. We followed the QB group all around the field(s) so we could get as good a look as possible on them. He just didn't have it. The O-Line got abused for most of the day, so that may have had something to do with it. Smith and even Daniel are going to be a little more accustomed to the maelstrom of an NFL game. Perhaps they were just a little less rattled than Bray was. |
One problem with going by training camp reports alone without preseason action:
The reporters (the bloggers, journalists, etc.) don't know anything, or are biased in their coverage. I'm glad to have DJ's report on Bray. I'm still excited to watch him play in preseason, and I still think Buttchin sucks dick. But the same criticisms and caveats we were all talking about with Bray during draft talk and also after he immediately signed with us appear to still be a huge gaping issue. The positive reports from camp about all the pretty throws he made shouldn't be tossed out the window, but they shouldn't be the only thing we examine when trying to evaluate what Bray can really potentially do. |
Kelce is a badass! I like him...
|
Quote:
There's stuff happening all over the field almost the entire practice. The tweets are interesting, but they're not dispositive. And yeah, they have a little bias to them. I'm not saying to disregard all the positive reports on Bray - It's better than nothing but doom and gloom. At the same time, don't consider them dispositive either. They're not watching these like game film. These reporters are usually high on the hill looking down and trying to focus on one thing in a swirl of activity. |
Another bit of off-topic camp insight - Sean Smith is huge. You know by looking at the program that he's a tall guy, but you don't realize just how massive this guy is as a CB until you see him running drills with the other DBs. He looks like a man among boys.
Smith made a very nice fade pass off a double move on Monday where the WR had a step (I think it was Hemmingway, who looked good all day) and Smith leapt up reached forward and smacked it away as it came up over his shoulder. It was a great play on the ball and it's a play that someone like Flowers couldn't have made. Honestly, with the ball placement being what it was, even had Flowers been in position he may not have been able to make the play. Smith may actually be a FS playing CB at this point, but his size is a huge asset, especially in the press (which they played all day Monday; looked like exclusively cover 1). |
Ive heard our cb's are very physical
|
Quote:
But they didn't always do a great job of getting their hands on a body. I remember on one play in particular, Avery put a quick hand-check on Smith (iirc) when Smith came in for the bump and just blew past him. And yes, Avery is fast. Alex Smith threw a ball out there for him (maybe Daniel) that I thought he had no chance on and he hit an extra gear and went out and got it for a long TD catch towards the end of practice. I honestly don't recall seeing a WR on this team that had that ability to turn it on and separate using raw speed like that. It was incredibly impressive. |
Curious, DJ, what was Baldwin looking like?
|
thing about Smith is he jumps at a lot of balls and whiffs more than he makes, he gambles a shit ton because he has the size to try and do it
