Yeah it's bad today. It hasn't been 100% since this thread was started but it's especially bad today.

Started about a week ago for me and thought with clearing my cache and purge of all cookies and IP reset it was some initial DNS issues.

It has only gotten worse.....

At this point, it is what it is. We're inundated with bots, and under our current infrastructure, it's not likely to get better. I'm tired of trying to band-aid it.

For the tech challenged among us, like myself, what exactly is a bot and what do the people who create them get out of it?

I reached out to one of my former co-workers this am that manages the training of bots in A.I..

He went and looked at the Planet. He basically said this software running this place doesn't know how to handle the A.I. bots correctly. It's not the same as the tracer bots Google has been using for a long time. The A.I. bots are designed to learn just like Google but the way it requests and disconnects is different.

Sounds like what we already know or suspect that it was the A.I. learning bots but no solutions besides to throw some more CPU cycles at it to handle the response in a more timely manner.

We need another round of fundraising to get more power to handle theses learning bots? I'll chip in.

Very superficial......

Bots are essential to the internet. Its how we or google request access to a website. The issue all websites are dealing with is the A.I. learning bots. They take longer and take up more CPU cycles on websites. This older software just allows those learning bots to do their thing. Business can time them out. I think this software cant do that or its difficult to do but manually.

I've been bitching to my wife all morning about the Internet. LOL

Is it a money thing? Is there an amount we could donate to eliminate the issue...make a go fund me type thing so we can see the progress?

The website is almost to a point where it is too annoying to use due to the lagging.

The database itself is probably a mess in terms of efficiency and resource management. It's old and I know it has had trouble in the past. The worst thing is that it's a compounding problem. The bots try to open a bunch of connections, which causes the server to burp, which causes the bots to send even more connection requests. There's not a good way to stop it cheaply. You COULD throw money at more CPU and such but it won't fix the problem.

What we really need is for the hosting provider to provide some kind of DDOS protection so that the requests get filtered before they hit the server. But that costs money, considerably more than just upgrading resources.

Agree, buying CPU's will help but not fix the issue.

Only a new hosting solution will remedy the problem. You need to spend more money to stop the bots like a business is doing. And that costs more money.
