Have I mentioned how much I hate IAH because of its ****ing ridiculous number of weather problems?

United needs to dump this piece of shit airport and call it good.

I head back east again on Sunday and I fear bad weather. Not looking forward to snow all over.

Today something happened for the first time in my 43 year traveling history: on my flight this morning from Phoenix Sky Harbor to Charlotte, we had an aborted landing about 10 feet off the ground and wheels ready to touchdown when the windshear alert alarm went off in the cockpit. The pilot threw the plane into full speed ahead and we quickly climbed away from the runway.

The wings were going up and down 20 feet at a time like a see saw. If we landed at that moment, I am 100% sure a wing hits the runway. The winds were ferocious.

The last 40 minutes of the flight was some of the most extreme turbulence I have dealt with and a lot of nervous people on board.

We recircled the airport and landed about 15 minutes later to the entire cabin full of passengers applauding very loudly.

My little puddle jumper from Charlotte to Lynchburg was held for 30 minutes as wind speeds exceeded safe takeoff levels.

The landing at Lynchburg was no picnic either.......

Drinking to calm my nerves.

You didn't buy a hooker when you landed?

JK, glad you're alright.

teedubya 02-17-2025 10:27 AM

Eh, that airport isn't so bad. I think it's much worse when you are at OHare... and have land in terminal C at the end... then have to go to B terminal at the other end... on the same airline. OHare can be a bitch in Chicago, for sure.

Some international airports aren't that user friendly either.

A go-around? Big deal. I've had about a dozen.

I landed in Reno a couple of weeks ago. Pilot came on and said, "Folks, it's a little windy in Reno. About 60 mph gusts. So we're going to give it a try." Lol

Bearcat 02-17-2025 03:44 PM

Could be worse (the landing upside down part, not the landing in Canada part)...

Reno is actually an airport that needs a captain with special training because of the winds.

I'm really glad to hear that because I was second guessing my choice to drive there in April. I want to have my own car so I can go sight seeing all over and on the way.

Feel like it will be my kinda town.

Sounds like you got your monies worth out of that flight...

Arrived at Atlanta Hartsfield 30 minutes ago from Roanoke on Delta.

Have 10 hours to kill until my flight this evening back to Phoenix.

Pretty quiet here overall and this AA Admirals Club has about 10 people total.

Time for a nap......
