I've been playing for a long time, and no serious injury. And we hit each other hard sometimes. The fatter kid in our group sprains his ankle every now and again. It's good exercise. I play about three days in a week, then take a week or two to heal up. I usually play flag during the healing time though if it's just bruises.

Usually when we get somebody new to play tackle, they think we're joking. Then they think we're going to go soft on them. Then they start to get into it and have fun. Then at the end, they either ask us when we're playing again and where, or they leave crying because they tore their pants or got a booboo.

I played Tackle football once without pads about 3 years ago and broke a kids collar bone. I had caught the ball and he tried to tackle me.

My brother used to take some bad hits to the head and couldn't see anything but black dots a few times. We broke a guys arm once in a pick up game, not sure how he recovered, didn't really know him.
