It's not bizarre.

These players just SUCK.

Perhaps, hard to know without them getting snaps. On the other hand we know exactly what a guy like Malik Herring brings, f*** all.

I've actually seen Malik Herring make a couple of plays for this team, so you'll excuse me if I elevate him over someone who hasn't done a damn thing for this team.

He's done two things for this team in 2000 snaps vs someone who hasn't done anything in 22 snaps. Feels like similar trajectories but ok.

Trivia for you: As of last week, Karlaftis is now in the top 25 all time in sacks for the Chiefs.

Yeah, he's exactly what you want at LDE. Our RDE situation has been a problem. We sure could use an impact player there. Omenihu can at least get us some of the way there when he's 100% healthy.

He's exactly the sort of steady SDE many predicted he'd be when he was drafted.

He's a good player - just not a guy that can lead a pass rush. He can't really even be your SECOND best rusher. And I think that was pretty loudly demonstrated this year.

I suspect we'll figure out a way to supplement the WDE spot next season even if it's simply bringing back Omenihu. Danna ain't gonna get it done over there. He's essentially a poor man's Karlaftis.

The guy will probably reach 10 sacks again this season after getting 10.5 last year. That's perfectly fine for a 3rd pass rusher on any team. He shouldn't be leading the team in sack though. That just shows the lack of talent on the other side.

htismaqe 12-18-2024 04:02 PM

Oh and when I say "3rd pass rusher" I'm including Chris Jones.

Is he better than Wharton and Omenihu?

Better than Wharton, who I think would get stonewalled without Jones.

I don't think he's better than Omenihu. He's probably fairly similar in most ways, though Omenihu is a more versatile pass rusher, IMO.

I think he should have more sacks than Wharton - two different positions. I don't think he's as good as Omenihu right now but I'm also not sure Omenihu will be here next year.

JPH83 12-19-2024 12:33 AM

Yeah, a DE3 is fine and about how I'd describe him. With the rest of the DL we just need a better pass rusher alongside him. I'd bet on Omenihu being gone next year, he'll ask for too much money

BossChief 12-19-2024 02:41 AM

Veach would be smart to do everything he can to sign Omenihu to a long term deal this off-season. The injury and suspension should give leverage to get a nice 3-4 year value deal signed that has a ton of performance escalators built in. He helps drive this defense to another level.

UChieffyBugger 12-19-2024 02:42 AM

Imo he can be another Trey Hendrickson if he keeps working hard and improves year on year.

O.city 12-19-2024 08:11 AM

He's not that type of player.

Like has been mentioned, when he's your 2nd/3rd pass rusher, youre sitting pretty. When he's the guy? Nah, that ain't gonna work.

With where we draft and the way we play, we are gonna be the team that has 3/4 guys that are good not great and can all really play. Which is fine and preferable as there are always guys like Omenihu in FA that can come in and do that.
