6 days until I'm fishing the Green with stoneflies for 20 inch browns and cutts.

Gonna take about that long to get all these flyboxes loaded . . .

Well, just got back ffrom the 10th annual Fishing the Green River in WY trip. We arrived a little early this year, and the flows were too high. About twice what we normaly see about this time of year. Additionally, the weather was unseasonably colder and rainier than normal. This made the fishing a lot tougher. But we stuck it out anyway,a dn everyone landed some great fish. Don't have all the pics ready for publishing yet, but I thought I'd drop a couple teasers here for now.

Day 2. Winds were 35 kts gusts over 50.

My new tent doing some twerking when the winds were doing a sustained 40+ kts.

My buddy Big Mac's tent took the worst of it. Bent two poles, tore both the fly and the tent:

Man those big browns are fighting bastards. That's a hog you've got there. Nice fish all around and looks like it was well worth sticking it out.

Anyone hitting the water with these storm fronts this week? I caught a 6 lb LMB on a top water in 40’ of water early this morning. They were crazy active!

Planning on going back out tomorrow night if the weather holds off. Past week I've been having great luck punching grass in the shade during some of the hottest parts of the day when they're hunkered down.

Heavy jigs and weighted senkos have done the trick in the waters where I've been fishing.

For all the pressure the lakes are getting this year, the fishing has still been solid in my experience.

Yep, it can be hotter than hell but if you fish shady cover they’re still biting... I don’t often heavy jig punching through moss etc on my equip, but often slip a weedless senko into messes like that

Truth about pressure this year, everyone and their trashy dog is out there this year for lack of anything else to do

Those are some truly gorgeous fish. That ‘bow looks really nice.

And they are good reminders to me of why I like to stay in a Lodge. The first few years I lived in this state, I would do float trips down some wild Alaska rivers, like the Quinahak and the Goodnews. We usually would not see anybody the whole week. One year, we got dropped off on Saturday and we were set to be picked up a week later at the mouth of the river. It started raining Sunday night. It did not stop until Friday. Set up the rent in the rain, take it down in the rain, stretch the tarp out in the rain so you would have something somewhat dry to eat under... it was truly miserable. Water rose and blew out all the fishing. By the end of the week, every last thing was at least damp, if not actually wet, and sometimes even sopping wet.

Ever since, I will stay somewhere and go with a guide. They have boats, which I certainly cannot transport out to the Bush, and they know where to go even if the weather is bad. Not to mention that there’s always backup in case things go bad and remote Alaska is not really a place where you want it go to bad.

So even if it’s raining in the morning, I’ve slept in a dry, soft bed. Coffee made by someone else calls to me while Breakfast is hot and filling. I can put my waders on under the eaves. It might rain all day, but I know that I will be able to get out of my wet waders and into a dry martini, so to speak. That makes a huge difference because rain means cold, the type of damp cold that just leeches the heat out of your body.

Don’t get me wrong. Looks like a great trip and great fishing and I’m definitely envious of the browns and cuts. But I’m just too damn old to deal with the combination of wind and rain and tents anymore. So I play it safe.

Megatron, I’m planning a fly trip to WY in late august/early September. We have a few spots identified but would love any tips you might have with regard to location.

All the proof you need is in the fact that Bass Pro/Cabelas sells out of any decent casting combo that goes in stock nearly the same day. I tried to snag the Pro Qualifier II they had a few weeks ago and was told it sold out in 15 mins in all 3 local stores.

Everyone’s bored, so suddenly everyone’s a fisherman. For a guy like me trying to launch a fishing apparel brand that’s great, but for a guy like me just trying to fish it ****ing sucks.

Putting the Green River on my list now.
Pretty jealous here Megatron.
I was going to post my 19" Iowa Browns recently caught but now I will just forget about it.
