That's not what this film was ever going to be about.

This trilogy isn't ABOUT Luke.

Even so, his climax in this film is absolutely perfect. You get the payoff you want if you are a Luke fan. I certainly did.

The worst part about Episode VIII, IMO, is that Luke's life is so sad and so off-putting that a "Young Luke Skywalker" film, that could be so much fun, especially with Sebastian Stan as Luke, is nearly completely off the table.

The dialog from Episode VIII turned Luke from being the last of the Jedi, who had hope and optimism for the future, into a man that became full of himself, only to fail due to his hubris, which creates another Dark Side of The Force user that is intent on killing everyone in his path on the way to naming himself Supreme Leader.

Basically, he recreated his own father, the man he just saved from the Dark Side.

That doesn't sound like a very fun film

Disagree entirely.

There's tons of shit that could be explored prior to his forming the Jedi temple.

There's like 15-20 years of the character to explore.

If you disagree, then apparently, you've forgotten the dialog.

Luke allowed his Jedi powers and the defeat of the Empire to completely go to his head.

He was "Luke Skywalker, Jedi Master, hero and savior of the Republic", and he believed every word of it, which led to his downfall.

I don't think anyone wants to see that character onscreen.

And you think that is anything other than PR work to cover his early remarks?

Truth. And if people want to criticize SW films at the same level as 'Schindler's List', then you've pretty much become far too old in spirit to be wasting your( and everyone else's )time even watching the product much less commenting on it.

Um, he's dead now. He could say and keep saying anything he wants to.

Of course it's P.R., especially since the movie is sucking at the Box Office.

His comments were really, really harsh and I don't buy into "Oh, I made them before I saw the movie!" nonsense.

He made no bones throughout the entire filming process that he didn't like the character arc written by Rian Johnson and didn't think that's the way Luke would have reacted.

I don't think anyone has taken it that far. I think it's fair to criticize Rocky 5 without expecting some all time great story line.

He made those remarks before seeing the film. After the film he admitted to being wrong.

If they don't have Luke appear as a Force Ghost, you might as well just flush this trilogy down the toilet altogether.

I think they probably had some smaller plans for him in number 9.

And you buy this nonsense???

He knew the story, had the script and saw the ****ing dailies.

Don't be so naive.

Did he make those remarks before or after shit hit the fan with the fanbase?

I don't know and I don't care. I don't buy Mark as a corporate shill, especially given my own reaction to the film.

It would have been ****ing lame for Luke to just be the dude who fixes everything in the movie by being the ultimate badass!!!11one. There's no drama in that.

Ya'll need to go watch Transformers.
