Eh, I feel like there's things to discuss. How do our new tackles look? Is Smith back to how he played a few years ago? What's the rotation looking like for the WRs? How are the DBs holding up with Sneed missing out on most of TC and with a new safety back there? With the suspension of CE, how are our DEs looking especially our first rounder who will likely have to play more than we thought necessary to start the season?

These are things that people would have talked about in past off seasons especially in TC. Instead we get a random highlight here or there but no real discussion. I don't know, listening to the only decent radio guys who cover the chiefs in KC (c.dot and Rob) and Nate Taylor, this TC has been rougher than last year and there are a few questions marks. But I don't see anyone saying that here. What's the disconnect?

Since Mahomes left money on the table to keep other players around I fully expect Patrick to drill Chris Jones in the nut sack in practice once he arrives.

There hasn't been a smidge of reports on the DE's coming out of camp. We won't be able to get a gauge on this till the preseason.

You're asking questions about OL and DL play which is pretty dang hard to answer with limited camp reports. Some of these questions just can't be answered through twitter videos.

Every year the above is posted and yeah like always cap gets a boost but is never earth shattering. Players contracts go up a position gets reset and your cap is whittled down. The chiefs start searching for players they can who will redo and get enough money to sign our draft picks and some players rinse and repeat.

What you SHOULD be speculating on, is the ACTUAL game sealing play, which was Ossai's late hit out of bounds on Mahomes.

Pacheco was a dumbass, and did not get out of bounds on the previous play when he easily could have. Now we've blown our last timeout with what, 17 seconds left from the 48.

Mahomes ran for the first down to the 44. Out of bounds with 8 seconds left and no timeouts. 9 seconds wasted scrambling for that 4 yard run.

Maybe we get fg range, maybe we get tackled in bounds again and end up going to OT. We don't know.

It's as easy to say without Ossai's stupidity we don't win the game as it is to say that if Jones doesn't sack Burrow, the ball is 1000% completed and the Bengals get the rest of the way down the field to win, and equally as stupid.

You've asked Jones to continue to improve, be a leader, and step up his play in the post season. He did. All of it. He's playing the best ball of his career at a position that gives your defense a HUGE advantage.

Mahomes and Jones are the only two players on this team I'd argue you need to pay. If they ask it - pay it. Jones is not asking to equal or top Donald. You've got Mahomes and Kelcee below market value and have the ability to get Jones below market value.

I do think that you need Chris Jones.

My DL philosophy, however, is similar to my WR philosophy. I think having 5-7 B+ to C+ players is just as good as having 1 A+++ player.

Chiefs proved that last year at WR, although they have a literal cheat code at QB. No such advantage exists for the DL.

Chris Jones is an A+++ talent, but I think it would be better to have 5-7 B-level players. That's harder to assemble than just having a stud, but I think it puts more pressure on offenses, because otherwise you're just banking on Jones being Superman every week and if he doesn't, you're cooked.

The problem at this point, and why this all should have been settled back in March, is that the Chiefs, right now, simply don't have 5-7 B-level players. Their current starting tackles are Derrick Nnadi and Daniel Wise. That is absolutely brutal. The DE position has a ton of potential and I love the talent there, but it's going to take a season to develop.

So now the Chiefs find themselves trapped. The Hill contract negotiations were instructive: let Hill go and maybe take a step back for a season (lol didn't happen), or pay him his ask, and you take a step back for several seasons.

The difference is that Hill was traded in the Spring. We're one day out from preseason at this point and the Chiefs have no options.

ESPN reporter, a legit one, said the Chiefs offered $30 million/4 years. No out in the final year. Veach paying a 34 year old DT $30 million is going above and beyond.

We are maxed out on the cap. We spent the extra money that Mahomes and Kelce gave up. If the numbers above are true, they have no reason to be pissed off at the Chiefs.

If Jones took 27 million and invested in TSLY at 15/share , an .83 dividend would make him 1,494,000 per month in dividends.

After 12 months he'd have $44,928,000

And that doesn't include the compounding interest affect if he would DRIP his shares.

It's not that simple. If you sign Jones for $31 mill a year, it is hard to keep good young talent around him. If he defies the odds(and if anyone can, I think it would be him) and continues to play at a high level, it would be money well spent, but if he doesn't and becomes like 75% of those over 30 who decline quickly, it handicaps us greatly. Veach knows this, and its painful to make these choices, but he is mostly likely giving Jones a fair deal ($26-$27m/$70mil guaranteed) and he won't move from that... It's up to Jones to decide how this moves forward. It should be an easy decision for him, but pride seems to be getting in the way.

A player misses all of training camp/preseason, gets injured when they return for the start of the regular season due to not being in optimal football condition... a common scenario that will likely happen to Chris Jones the longer he holds out, which only hurts his chances to capitalize on having a big season.
