There's no way it ever got anywhere even remotely serious if we're just hearing it now.

Which corner duos are you taking over them in the NFL right now?

Off the top of my head, I'd say Jacksonville. Denver is a no likely due to the Talib situation which is up in the air, wouldn't take them long term over Peters/Fuller. That might be it.

You avoided paying millions more to Cousins, which you can now use on other players.

Fuller in his second year used to lead extra video review time. Student of the game. Two older brothers in NFL. not sure those two as smart.

Yeah they avoided giving Cousins $25-$30M a year in favor of giving a lesser QB $23.5M a year.

Not to mention that they paid him franchise tag money for 2 years. If they signed him then, his cap hit would probably be the same as Smith's will be.

Pederson: I hate that we'll face Alex Smith twice a year

http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap300...h-twice-a-year

Quote:

"Yeah, I just hate that we have to play him twice a year," Pederson said Wednesday. "Well, I'm happy for Alex. I've had a chance to work with him for three years obviously and I'm excited and happy for him. I think it's a great honor for him and the Redskins."

"Washington is very fortunate to have a quarterback in Alex Smith. My year with him was one of my favorite years of football," Foles said. "Just being there in Kansas City, getting to work with him, seeing a guy that for some reason people critique all the time, I mean, the guy's a winner. I mean, look at him. Look at what he did this year and he just keeps coming. He keeps getting better." Foles labeled Smith as a player who "can turn a locker room around," calling him "one of the most athletic guys" in the NFL. "This league is crazy," Foles said. "You never know what's going to happen, but Alex is a great quarterback and I really enjoyed playing with him."

What do you expect him to say? I am sure glad I get to face a risk aversion game manager twice a year yee ha? It's like you people don't get sports in general. Name an nfl coach who trashed an active player he worked with?
Coaches in all sports do this. Basketball coaches tell you how all world their 20 point underdog opponent is. Ring a bell kansas fans? All coaches talk like that.

That's Wilbon's shtick though. Thinks he's a tough guy just because he's from Chicago. Values "What have you done for me lately?!" over taking a risk and winning or losing big. He's like that in every ****ing sport.

After the 2017 draft he was ****ing furious about Mitch Trubisky. ****ing livid. Even went so far to say, "Even if Trubisky ends up being great, I do not support this move, because it's such a pointless and stupid risk."

You can hate on Trubisky as a prospect. You can say the Bears gave up too much to get him. You can say there is no plan or direction in Chicago based on the fact that just over a month prior they gave $18 million to Ostrich Neck Boy. But to say, "I support Chicago sports and have for all of my life and I will never support Trubisky even if he's great" is just... wow. It's dumb.

Veach is a major blessing. Opportunistic and outside the box thinking getting Ragland, Irving, and KPL. Now the Smith trade and all it allows...amazing job.

You don’t go cutting Ford though, no way. As has been said he is in a contact year. Plus say they do acquire a couple guys and feel comfortable moving on from him you wait. You wait until the draft when all the pass rushers in free agency are long gone and the first round is over and the second day is going on and teams with needs miss out on players they wanted you can dangle him for a 3rd or 4th if you want and see what happens. They just cleared cap room trading Alex. Yes there’s going to be more but get them replaced before you go just cutting guys.

Cut Tamba and Zombo and Revis right off the bat to clear some more room. Then probably DJ. He could possibly contribute another year in the same role rotating with KPL ( if resigned) or Eligwe. At the right price and only the right price. I don’t see Veach going the route Dorsey did with Tamba a couple years ago and have no plan in place to replace him and get screwed over paying a popular yet declining vet. Bailey they can still get production out of and if they don’t need him to start even better. He’s playing a bit heavy at around 305-310 when he’s better about 295ish and quicker as an inside rusher on pass down. Parker I would like to see replaced but if they have to squeeze another year from him because they can’t find a starter his cap# doesn’t kill you. Same with West and Harris. Find their replacement first then move on.

Bret Veach has made forgetting John Dorsey sooooooooo easy.

He might be my favorite personnel man of all-time if he keeps trending in his current direction. You have to give the innovation, the approach, and the results to Stram, Steadman, and Hunt at this point because they hold the jewelry, but if Veach navigates this current incarnation of Chiefs football to a Super Bowl victory, then there is no doubt that he should be crowned King.*

Fair enough, but he was never aggressive, did NOTHING in regards to drafting and developing a legitimate QB prospect, and outlived his usefulness.

Not to mention, he was the king purveyor of sappy, sentimental, 'fan favorite'-retention of players that should have been cut or traded when there were better opportunities, and when THEY outlived THEIR usefulness.

He traded what was essentially a worthless 1st round pick for Joe Montana and signed Marcus Allen.

He was terrible with Herm from 2006-2008 but otherwise, he did the bidding of his head coach.

Jared Allen is a HOFer.

Tamba Hali is a Chiefs HOFer.

How many of that era of players( Charles, Hali, Flowers, Albert etc. ) can we attribute to Herm? Seems like the philosophy changed somewhat upon his arrival, and I'm not referring to the "youth movement" of Herm vs. Vermiel's preference of veterans, I'm recalling that we began to score pretty well on large sweeps across the draft board, top to bottom.

IMO, Carl should have left with Marty. They came in as a team, and should have left as one. Both were clearly past their expiration dates as Chiefs personnel. Had Carl not lingered, he could have possibly rejuvinated his career as Marty did briefly with San Diego.

No but if you look at “because Chiefs” history there’s more of a chance he doesn’t play or perform vs he does something of substance.

Plus we’re talking about Dee Ford right? That alone means we’re probably right.

Outside of a 6 game flash of talent he's been a huge waste of a draft pick (in any round...)

ThaVirus 02-01-2018 09:04 AM

What's Sam Cassel got to do with this?

nope just speculating, but back injuries are a definite career long issue in most players. Its the same thing as you guys saying he will have a great year because its a contract year. So, you know for sure that he will be a stud just because he is playing for a contract?

I haven't said that but it does fit an actual historic trend. My point is they arent going to pay him if they think his back is too jacked up to play, he can still be cut and save the $8MM.

What exactly is Ford's back injury?

No but if you look at “because Chiefs” history there’s more of a chance he doesn’t play or perform vs he does something of substance.

"because Chiefs history" says we won't draft a QB in the 1st round or start a young drafted QB too correct? :D

I'm sorry I'm not sorry for the bump, but this thread shouldn't be on the 2nd page.

Ever.

His contract is guaranteed for injury so if his back is too messed up to play, he receives his entire salary in 2018, whether they cut him or not.

One thing I don't see mentioned much is what smith is walking into as far as DC media is concerned.
I don't view SF media or kc media being exactly harsh.
But DC? It could be brutal.

Hell, all the ill will will go towards Bruce Allen and Dan Snyder. They've had 13 years to see what Alex Smith is.

IMO, Carl should have left with Marty. They came in as a team, and should have left as one. Both were clearly past their expiration dates as Chiefs personnel. Had Carl not lingered, he could have possibly rejuvinated his career as Marty did briefly with San Diego.

As does the Mahomes thread.

The funny thing is, we could still grab Talib.

I went to the last three games (the last being the crushing loss that only Clark and Andy could blow off), so let's hope all of these moves are a sign that Clark isn't the ass we've grown accustom to.

@DanHellie: At @EASPORTS Super Bowl party. Travis Kelce playing Alvin Kamara in Madden and the first thing Kelce does is bench Alex Smith for Pat Mahomes [emoji23][emoji23]

Holy shit. LMAO

I distinctly remember in Kelce's video from Tuesday that he said he'd be giving Kamara a heavy dose of Alex Smith and Justin Houston. Guess not!
