This sucks for Ventura man. He's in his own head now.

Mr. Laz 09-30-2014 08:03 PM

Should have been Davis

veteran, attitude ... can go 2 with no problem

kcpasco 09-30-2014 08:03 PM

Probably true. I was glad he was pulled but you definitely could argue Ventura wasn't the reliever to put in. Probably should have been Herrera.

Mother****erJones 09-30-2014 08:04 PM

I'm sorry guys this sucks. I really am. Why the hell put Ventura in? You got a great pen already and he's a starter who is young and has no postseason experience.

HonestChieffan 09-30-2014 08:04 PM

Shields was such a stud tonight only to have this asshat blow it

You can blame Ventura, but this is on Yost. Yeah, he didn't execute the pitches he could have, but if he's coming in, it should be in a clean inning.

If you're bringing in Herrera now, which he is, there's no reason why you couldn't bring him in at the first sign of trouble for Shields.

This is why I hate when people say that managers don't have a big impact on games. They abso-****ing-lutely do.

That's why the way we play doesn't correlate well in October. Power ball and pitching is what wins titles.

Not probably. Why would you put a kid in a situation he has never been in during this kind of game? And you wonder why I bashed on Yost all season.

Dartgod 09-30-2014 08:06 PM

Ned's a ****ing moron. Shields is a grinder and should have never been pulled in that situation.

Especially for a ****ING ROOKIE STARTING PITCHER!

Have to hope he has more testicular fortitude, but this is rough.

When Shields was pulled initially, I honestly didn't think it was for Ventura. Liked the move to go get the starter, though.

Wouldn't have bitched about Ventura before the fact, though. Interesting that this was the decision instead of stretching one of the big 3.

KCCHIEFS27 09-30-2014 08:07 PM

Yost has to go. I don't care if we come back to win this game. That was absolutely asinine. A YOUNG starter, inherits two runners with hitters coming up that are waiting for, and tee off, on fastballs. What in the world do you think those guys will be looking for? How often has Ventura come out with a sharp curve or slider to start the game? He doesn't. The guy comes out throwing fastballs. It's not hard to gameplan for him. Thanks Yost. The fans come out and support this team like no other for this game and you rip their hearts out with stupidity.

RollChiefsRoll 09-30-2014 08:07 PM

I've seen enough Mathenaging to empathize. To be honest, if you were merely playing the percentages, Holland would be the guy to use there because the leverage is so high. However, Wade Davis has gone more than three outs several times, which means he and Herrera could take the next three. Also, you could bifurcate them with a LOOGY if need be.

Yost is just a mother****er who thinks he's playing chess when he couldn't beat a three year old at checkers.

KCUnited 09-30-2014 08:10 PM

Fail as big as that on this big a stage and handies under the Tri-Burough for $5 a man can't be more than 5 years off.

SAUTO 09-30-2014 08:10 PM

One more, no runs. Come on!

tk13 09-30-2014 08:10 PM

Yeah, I didn't have a problem with it. That's baseball. You make decisions, you live with them... they don't always work out. You can't bang on Yost all year for being too conventional and then bash that move. You can't.

It's the same thing as when he finally brought in Herrera and Davis early, and both of their scoreless streaks ended that night. Yost is going to be murdered for that move, but it's not like he went to Crow.

MeatRock 09-30-2014 08:10 PM

Herrera should have been the guy in instead of Ventura. No doubt about it. Use your goddamn best relievers Ned, even if you have to stretch them out a little.

Some say pulling was fine but for someone else, other say keep Shields in. You can't predict that Shields wouldn't have blow the lead either but clearly putting in Ventura was a poor choice from the pen.
