Shiver Me Timbers 04-11-2022 06:01 PM

Side note - how the hell does one even get into racing? .

KC Kart Club https://www.kckarting.com/ would be a good place to start. They should have kids stuff. Basically they start with Kids Karts ages 5-8 with a glorified weed whacker engine. It is a blast to watch. PM me if you need some advice or guidance.

It can get uber expensive. My son outgrew the local and regional racing so he ran shifter karts nationally and then he went to Europe. He had the talent to compete with guys driving today in Indy and F1 but It is a rich mans sport and Shiver Me Timbers Lumber Company saw it as a bottomless pit.

There is a "Race Dad" from Belgium (close friends with the Verstappan family) who was spending over 1m Euros a year on the boys kart program. They would roll up to races in a rig that looked like it should be at the F1 track. 20 Motors, 20 chassis, 4 mechanics and a chef.

Kart Racing is the purest form of Motorsport- Ayrton Senna

Additionally, when Hamilton put both wheels off the track for a pass of Verstappen, the race stewards made him 'give up the gap' instead of actually surrender the position. Which is damn uncommon.

Hamilton, at WORST, broke even in that race. It's common practice for lapped cars to unlap themselves under the safety car. Had the race stewards NOT allowed it it would've been stranger than anything. And because they dicked up and didn't allow everyone to unlap as soon as the safety car came out, they had to make the 'amended' call to allow only the cars between Hamilton/Verstappen to unlap so that there was still a lap of racing left.

But again - standard procedure just lets everyone unlap at the safety car. It was the steward's decision not to let teams unlap initially that created a problem.

Hamilton got unlucky - he didn't get screwed.

This might clarify how LH was totally screwed by the F1 overlords. -> https://youtu.be/JPUSorCxJSw Also that stupid Spa race they declared a race was a ****ing JOKE and a slap in the face to anyone who watches F1. Two laps behind a "safety car" is not a race. F1 is pulling **** out of their ass.

And Max was screwed when the stewards let Lewis overtake off track and not give back the position.
And Max was screwed when Lewis took him out at Silverstone for the paltry fee of a 10 second penalty.

Whining about Lewis getting screwed by F1 is like whining about Tom Brady getting screwed by the NFL. Here's another useless youtube idiot to prove it.

KMag and Haas will be on the podium at least once this year. What a sea change from 2021.

The Russians should kidnap Hamilton and shave his vagina while they're holding him for ransom.

This is how I view it. Temptation is to refer to Mercedes as the "Patriots". I don't feel anything personal against Hamilton, but just don't regret anything about his treatment by F1.

BTW recently watched a replay of last year's Monza race, he really is lucky to be alive after that collision with Verstappen.

Eat all the dicks, Daniel Ricciardo.

Overrated clown. Just pinched Sainz off in that chicane and ended his race immediately. Complete trash move and I'm really not sure why the race stewards didn't penalize him for it.

Looked like he just lost a little control coming off the wet curb. I didn't see anything intentional about it. Unfortunate, but not dirty. Braking was a key to this race for a lot of drivers, several went off. I do feel bad for Sainz and Alonso (getting tapped by MSC sucked) though, they've both had pretty unlucky starts to the season and obviously have the pace in their vehicles to do better.

I didn't think it was intentional - I just thought it was bad driving and simply not necessary that early in the race. Even if Ricciardo takes that position, I doubt he's able to hold it. Sainz appeard to spin the wheels a bit at the start and created an opening for Ricciardo but in the first damn lap, there's no cause for taking it deep into a corner there when you know the conditions aren't great.

Ahh, yeah, don't disagree with that. Seems to be the norm for race starts though, always someone braking too late.

But hey, in the end it was still less aggressive and stupid than LeClerc deciding he needed DRS with 10 laps left in the race and spinning himself in to the wall when he was gaining a second a lap on Perez.

Just WAY too impatient and aggressive. He was lucky to get it back to 6th.

With the impact DRS showed in the sprint down the main stretch, I have no earthly idea why he didn't just bide his time until he had an opening and DRS. He'd have coasted to 2nd.

If Tsunoda ever grows up a bit and gets a big boy drive under him, he's gonna be a handful some day. That kid has really good pace. I'd be fascinated to see what he could do in a McLaren alongside Norris.

I don't know the rationale for gravel that sinks a car like quicksand. Think it's a shame Sainz couldn't re-enter the race.

Agree on all points. Leclerc was way too aggressive way too late. With Sainz out, they should have taken the points instead of trying to go for fastest lap or passing Checo.

I know a lot of people are looking to Gasly to get back to RBR and replace Checo. I don't see that happening. Depending on this year's outcome, I see Checo getting 2 more years and Tsunoda becoming #1 at AT for 2 years and then replacing Checo at RBR.

I've never quite understood the idea that a safety car can't give you a bit of a boost. Just seems like tradition for tradition's sake.

Ricciardo getting to continue because he's the one that punted Sainz around backwards to get stuck while he was able to continue forward through the gravel trap just doesn't make a lot of sense.

But I'm also just kindof a pissed off Ferrari fan right now so there's that...
