My review of how I've diverged from the real Chiefs.
Positions where I'm better than the real Chiefs: QB - I've invested heavily in young QBs, and it looks like Sanchez is paying off as my starter. Clausen will hopefully develop behind him. HB - Charles and Spiller? I've got a strong RB corp, and Spiller will split out occasionally to help my weak WR corps. TE - Tony G. What can I say? DT - I've added Dorsey back to this group and switched to a 4-3, which is a better use of our talent. Otherwise the same. Areas where I'm about the same as the real Chiefs: WR - I don't have McCluster, but Spiller will do the same thing. Otherwise a wash. T - I think Barry Richardson has potential, but so does Alex Boone. The real Chiefs might be a little ahead of me, but I have two developmental prospects. It looks like the Raiders may be lining Campbell up at guard, though. C - I don't have Niswanger, but I kept Wade Smith. I think I'm a little better, but it's not a big difference. P - Colquitt. Why mess with perfection? CB - Probably a wash overall. Two good starters and it goes downhill from there. OLB - Hard to judge this since I'm moving Hali back to DE in a 4-3 alignment. Maualaga and Studebaker will start for me, with Dekoda Watson backing them up. I think I'm okay. DE - I'm moving Dorsey back to DT, but I like my DEs. I've got Hali and Gilberry on the right side to rush the passer, and Pryor and Carrington on the left side to stuff the run. I think eventually my group will prevail. Pryor can drop inside to DT occasionally, too. Areas where I'm weaker than the real Chiefs: G - I didn't draft Asamoah and drafted Duke Robinson, who is now on injured reserve for the year. I made the tough decision to hold him for a year to see if he comes through. K - It's really hurt me that I didn't draft Succop last year, so I'm still running with a scrub kicker. S - I drafted Kendrick Lewis, and got Reshard Jones to be my strong safety. (The Dolphins have moved him to free safety, but I have to leave him at SS.) Of course, I drafted Spiller over Berry, so I don't have Berry. ILB - I've got DJ and Demorrio, but no depth right now. Since I'm moving people, I'll note my front seven against the real Chiefs' front seven. Them: Hali, Vrabel, Belcher, Johnson, Jackson, Dorsey, Edwards. Me: Maualaga, Studebaker, Johnson, Hali, Pryor, Dorsey, Edwards. I think I like my group better. |
Here's mine, as always reserving the right to tweak until the deadline.

Your OLBs are all the guys I was coveting in the draft, but I couldn't get them high enough on my list of priorities to take them.

I think we're still working our way up to 53, and this year we're at 43. I propose this just so we have to cut some "real" Chiefs and make some decisions there. Or do you think we're okay to go to 53?
|
Did we have an IR or developmental roster last year? I don't recall. I'd lean against it, probably, since we'd all have the same players right now.

Okay, it's getting to be "Step 4" time again.

Yep, I'll be working on mine. I'm hoping you're right in that the wisdom of my picks will emerge in another year or two. I'm kind of taking a beating right now.

I have a question about Step 4. The rules say that the number of starts you assign to each player can't exceed that player's actual number of starts. Does that mean that I have to assign starts to "scrub" at ILB even if I have players like Sean Lee or Demorrio Williams who played in several games but who didn't start in a game all season? If so, here is my lineup. I had lots of tough situations on my offensive line this season so I moved Brian Waters to both OT and C and still had to start 2 scrubs on the offensive line almost every week. Ugg.
QB Matt Cassel - 15 Brodie Croyle - 1 RB Jamaal Charles - 6 Thomas Jones - 10 Jackie Battle FB Tim Castille - 4 WR Dwayne Bowe - 16 Chris Chambers - 7 Dexter McCluster - 7 Scrub - 16 David Reed (Ravens) Jeremy Horne TE Leonard Pope - 6 Scrub - 8 Brad Cottam T Branden Albert - 15 Ryan O'Callaghan - 1 Brian Waters - 2 Scrub - 14 G Ryan Lilja - 15 Kraig Urbik (Bills) - 2 Jon Asamoah - 1 Scrub - 14 C Brian Waters - 14 Rudy Niswanger Matt Tennant (Saints) K Ryan Succop - 16 P Dustin Colquitt - 16 FS Jarrad Page (Patriots) Kendrick Lewis - 10 Brandon Carr - 6 SS Eric Berry - 16 CB Brandon Flowers - 15 Brandon Carr - 10 Alterraun Verner (Titans) - 7 OLB Tamba Hali - 16 Mike Vrabel - 16 Andy Studebaker ILB Derrick Johnson - 16 Scrub - 16 Demorrio Williams Corey Mays Sean Lee (Cowboys) DE Tyson Jackson - 3 Glenn Dorsey - 16 Wallace Gilberry - 2 Shaun Smith - 10 Scrub - 1 DT Ron Edwards - 15 Scrub - 1 Tank Tyler (Panthers) Anthony Toribio |
Good question. Let's say that you can start a backup, but you'll need to record them as follows:
Actual NFL starts (your starts) So if you're starting a guy for three games who didn't have any NFL starts, you would denote him as 0 (3). That'll let us know that you're pressing a backup into a starting role, but it's better than starting a scrub. |
