1. It was reported that Pioli was happy about the opportunity in KC
2. It was also reported that he was offered a contract
3. A few days ago Schefter reported that Pioli was in New England.
4. Lombardi reported yesterday that he heard KC was turning down GM candidates

Thus, it's not unreasonable to hypothesize that:

1. Both sides have reached an agreement
2. Pioli is in NE "wrapping things up" at home
3. The announcement is being delayed because of the playoffs

1. The Chiefs are not in the playoffs
2. The Patriots are not in the playoffs
3. Whomever is going to take over this abortion of a franchise will need to hit the ground running.
4. Per #3, if there is a GM already hired, it would make no sense to delay the announcement.

You think the Titans or the Giants or any other team is going to give a flying rats ass about the GM waiting to make the announcement?

Okay gang, as many of you know I posted a message last week that stated that Clark had hired Scott Pioli and would announce it on Thursday or Friday. Clark wasn't very happy with me that I shared that information. I still have full confidence that Scott Pioli is the new GM. His announcement will come when Clark thinks it's appropriate. I have been summarily canned for letting the news out prematurely. I will say this though, Clark and Scott have worked out the finer points of his contract and the deal is sealed.

I only share this information because I've been fired from the organization effective immediately, but it's still fun to share that a new day is dawning at Arrowhead. Clark has moved quickly to clean out my office and I'm positive Scott will do the same with the rest of Carl's old staff before hiring a new coach.

Jim Schwartz is the name that has been mentioned many times by Clark and Scott. I know that they have discussed the possibility of bringing him in for an interview after Scott's hiring is announced.

Mike Shanahan continues to harass Pioli, but I don't know any info beyond that.

They would delay making the announcement so the hiring is a lead story locally and nationally, not overshadowed by the playoffs.

Your first three points are completely unrelated.

A possible reasoning behind delaying the announcement:

1. Carl Peterson's recent farewell: to give him as much respect as possible
2. Avoid overshadowing playoffs: Clark knows about promoting the NFL

The NFL pretty much lets all teams know that any announcements will be frowned upon during the weekends of the playoffs.

They want the story to be the games, not about teams not involved in the post season.

Why Scott Pioli/George Kokinis Should Come To Kansas City

http://www.studyofsports.com/wp-cont...9/01/pioli.jpg

There are currently 3 teams that are searching for a new GM (Chiefs, Browns, and Broncos), and there are currently two super hot commodities out there for those positions (Scott Pioli, and George Kokinis). Why should either of them consider the Chiefs over one of those other two teams?

1. The Chiefs were 2-14 last year. Expectations are pretty low right now, so the new GM would have a couple of years to assemble his roster before fans started souring on him. That is definitely not true in Denver, and may not be true in Cleveland considering they did have a playoff season just two years ago.

2. In 50 years, the Chiefs have had 4 General Managers. Some teams have that many GM’s in a single decade. This shows that the ownership is patient and will give you plenty of time to build the roster and execute your plan. If I were a candidate, this would be very important for me. I would want to know that I would be given every chance to succeed.

3. The Chiefs are poised to make a big turnaround as early as next season. While the team’s record was horrible this year, it’s not like the roster is completely devoid of talent. You have talented cornerbacks in Brandon Flowers, Brandon Carr, and Maurice Leggett, all young players. Tyler Thigpen came into his own and is at least a competitor for the starting QB job next year. Dwayne Bowe is a talented wide receiver, who on a better team would be a Pro Bowler. On the line is Branden Albert at left tackle and Brian Waters at left guard. I believe Tamba Hali will be better if he gets help on the line, and Glenn Dorsey as well.

Add to all that talent the number 3 pick in the draft and $30 million dollars worth of cap space, and this team can really improve next season. If they are able to trade Larry Johnson, they will get even more draft picks. Either way, I believe Johnson is done in KC. If not traded, he will most likely be released, freeing up more cap space. I don’t think they should trade Tony Gonzalez. If they are to make an improvement next year, I believe he has to be a part of it. There is no way any draft pick can come in here and have as big an impact as Tony does on this team.

4. The new GM will be able to choose his own head coach if he wishes. My feelings on whether or not they should do that are known, but I’m not going to be the new GM. Having that authority is obviously important. The Hunt family is well known for leaving those decisions to others and being more hands off than hands on. They are the Anti-Jerry Jones types.

I believe, for all these reasons stated above, that the Chiefs should be able to choose whomever they wish. If Pioli and Kokinis are really committed to winning, they should be able to see that the Chiefs offer them quite possibly the best chance at doing that quickly and for the long term. If money is their main concern, then I’m not sure they would be the right person for the job anyway. But if the Chiefs are competitive in this area, I believe we will get the best available person for the job, whether that be Pioli, Kokinis, or someone else.

Interesting read. But I have a question:

Does anyone actually pray that the Chiefs make correct decisions? Is it really THAT important?

If something's important, praying is the last thing that will get it done.

I've been out and about today and feeling too lazy to read through the thread. Any new news that I should add to the header?

Anyone who replies to this with the "OK gang" thing may be subject to a number of dire consequences.

Nothing.
