Report: Cavs are offering multiple teams a future first round pick for an experienced center. (Y!)

GOOD! Easily the biggest need for the Cavs right now.

Yep because teams will flock to trade an experienced player at a tough to fill position for a pick that will be in the late 20s.

I hope this is what they are doing. If so, then you can easily package in any combination of three first rounders, Waiters, Thompson, or Bennett. And now, they also have a ton of nonguaranteed contracts they can use as bait. Plenty of uncertain centers for 2015. Gasol may be untouchable, but why not try. Hibbert is an expensive wild card but why not try. Greg Monroe or brook Lopez even if I'm not crazy about their defense. I would love for them to target Al Jefferson, Robin Lopez, DeAndre Jordan, or even asik.

Lots of options. I agree with rust on this one. What the cavs need most is a rim protector and someone who can solidify the defense. A stretch four is very nice to have, but that's a luxury, not a necessity.

I'm glad you named all the unrealistic Cleveland homer pipe dream options besides Asik and Robin Lopez.

While I'm not opposed to trading DJ before he starts demanding a cap-crippling extension, a late first round pick isn't enough of a return for him. I'd imagine the Hornets, Blazers, and Pelicans feel the same away about the other three.

It is simply a list. Most of those guys were at least being shopped or speculated to hit free agency next year. If any of those guys are truly being shopped, none of them will need Wiggins in the trade. Apart from a gasol, but that's a pipe dream. If the cavs don't trade for love, they will have trade chips and plenty of cap space.

A first round pick and one or two of the cavs' young players not named Wiggins is a great haul for a guy they won't keep anyway.

right but it says they are only offering picks for one

it doesn't say they are also trying to offer their scrub first overall pick and the most overrated NBA player on this forum ever in the deal. (That's Bennett and Waiters for those who can't figure it out.)

mcaj22 07-23-2014 08:17 AM

what would the clippers want with any of those scrubs on the Cavs they would be offering.

none of them would see the floor, ever.

They are overrated because RustShack overhypes them. Bennett is still an unknown but he's still a legit top 10 pick. Waiters is an excellent sixth man. Thompson needs to develop an offensive game but will probably be a solid presence if he plays the four full time instead of center. More importantly, these guys will make mid level money. They are good trade chips for a team that is trying to trade a guy they know they can't keep.

And it says right now they are offering picks. I am sure they are open to moving one or two young guys not named Wiggins, but that's not where you start the negotiation.

Wiggins is the only young Cavs player the Clippers would even want, since we haven't had a legit starting wing since Maggette left. That being said, the Cavs would never trade Wiggins for a soon-to-be-overpaid center with a limited offensive game and poor FT%. Regardless, DJ's rim protection and rebounding is still worth a bit more than a late first-rounder.

Exactly. I don't think anyone is salivating over the cavs trade bait. But it is probably better than what most teams would offer. I think guys like asik and Jordan are excellent fits for the cavs. They fill a big time need, won't destroy their cap, don't demand blue chips like Wiggins, and give the team a veteran starter while still building around their youth and depth.

Chris Sheridan ‏@sheridanhoops 5m

EXCLUSIVE: #Bulls have offered Taj Gibson, Nikola Mirotic and Doug McDermott to #Twolves for K.Love, per NBA source. http://www.sheridanhoops.com/2014/07...otic-for-love/

tyler360 07-23-2014 09:59 AM

I don't understand why the Bulls are doing that. I think the have a very formidable team lined up. I really like what they have done this off season.

As stated earlier how far they go really depends on Rose and nothing else.
