Let’s pretend it’s April 1. You wanna repeat as champions.

Everybody was sweating the WR and OT positions. No one worried about Jones.

If I told you we trade Chris Jones to have solid bookend tackles and the deepest WR group of Mahomes’ career - both groups an plus advantage…

Would you say the Super Bowl was out of reach?

If we could have done it before the draft, yes. Woulda worked alot better.

Agree. But one or two extra loses drops kc from home field advantage. KC games are usually close. Jones is a difference maker in those games. Probably need at least 13 wins for home field.

Not really ridiculous in the big picture. Sure they can win games. But in the AFC, the margin for home field is razor thin. Maybe you lose a game or two that you normally wouldn't. And maybe the AFC Championship game is in Buffalo or Cincinnati next year. That's why its a huge deal and Jones is indeed a selfish ass.

Exactly!

It's the first Monday after the last preseason game. I expect to see movement starting today. Even if it is a bowel movement.

Start staking out Kohl's!

Jones may as well be traded this season.

No. You don’t trade CJ when we are the favorite to win the SB. We need him to win another SB. And KC has all the leverage. Why are we worried? If CJ sits out, we have more leverage next year with his tag being cheaper in 24. I don’t understand the panic. Also, it might be good for the chiefs to see what we look like for a few games without CJ. Here’s what veach will do, he will call CJ’s bluff and CJ will eventually report. We make a run at another SB. He either signs a reasonable long term deal or we trade him next year for more picks. I wouldn’t worry about it. We definitely don’t need to trade him this year. If he doesn’t sign a long term deal, then trade him next year.

Anyone see Jones' agent at the Leawood Best Buy?

Would anyone know if they did? I suspect he's not a household name.

Not sure it'll take 13 this year. The AFC East and North are going to batter each other.

Mahomes is 5-2 in games w/out Jones, one of which was the game he left early in Denver. And this could end up being the best overall roster he's had.

This reminds me of everyone freaking out about the loss of Hill. We saw how that worked out. More wins, a higher-scoring/more efficient offense, and a SB victory in spite of a bunch of postseason injuries.

I just don't see 7 games without Jones having the massive impact that people like Orlovsky are claiming.

Well he is probably only going to play half the season and it seems things have gotten personal so I doubt he gives 100% when he does come back.

So under these circumstances I think you have to at the very least consider it.

First, not everyone was freaking out about the loss of Hill.

Second, the difference is the team had the time and resources to be able to fill some of the void created when Hill was traded. That's not the case right now.

It's just not comparable at all, and basing your confidence on a sample size of 1 is foolish.

Right.

The ONLY way a trade for Jones works THIS SEASON, RIGHT NOW, is if the team they're trading with is willing to send a starter-caliber DT back RIGHT NOW as part of the compensation for Jones.

Those teams just aren't really out there. And even if they are, it has to be a player the Chiefs like, who fits into their system for this year.

Jones does not have any leverage to actually sit out games. Every game he sits out makes it more likely he is carried on his current deal this year and franchise tagged next year.

And if he does not play well because he isn't giving max effort, he cuts off his nose to spite his face in terms of getting the big deal he wants.

They did have more time and resources, but they ultimately didn't add anyone who came close to being able to replace what Hill brought to the offense. Not saying it's an apples to apples comparison though.

Don't get me wrong, I hate the idea of potentially being w/out Jones for 7 weeks and Omenihu for 6, but even if the DL struggles majorly during those weeks, I'm confident that KC can emerge with a solid record. I think the offense will improve on what was already the most efficient offense in the NFL. If they need to win games 38-34 for the first two months, so be it.
