I knew it. Luke kicking ass like Daddy in Rogue one

As someone who lived his whole life with an unfettered love of the original trilogy, got massively disappointed by prequels and sequels, that was maybe the best thing I have ever seen in Star Wars. I grew up with Luke, he was my hero, I watched those movies dozens of times. Even to this day Empire Strikes Back may be my favorite movie. I read EU books, comic books, everything. Saw the post RotJ Luke only in my mind. Never on screen. Until today.

I knew it was a possibility that he could show up, but I never believed for a second they'd actually do it. And I don't think they could have done it better.

The X-Wing shows up. I'm like 'no ****ing way'. Cara says 'One X-Wing. Great.' I laugh.

He walks the halls, cloak flowing behind him. He lights his green saber and I know. I'm in tears at this point, realization defeating disbelief. He carves through the Dark Troopers in a scene reminiscent of Vader at the end of Rogue One, but without the rage. This is a true Jedi Master in his prime.

But they don't show his face. They don't show his face until the very end. It's perfect

This is MY Luke Skywalker, and now he'll be EVERYONE'S Luke Skywalker.

I didn't actually want this to happen. Didn't realize it was exactly what needed to happen.

This brings everything together. All the eras.

And I loved it in a way I've never loved anything outside of the OT.




And we get the Book of Boba, too!

I don't know where the show goes now. Grogu is gone. It's gonna be different. The Mandalorian becomes Mand'alore? Will be a different show.

But who cares.

Also Boba was more honorable than I thought because he didn't betray the rescue crew

Bo-Katan and Koska would have been fighting the Empire on Mandalore. Cara Dune would have been fighting the Empire somewhere, maybe even Endor.

Fennec there's no way to know, but she's appearing during the Bad Batch series, so we'll probably have an answer to her whereabouts soon.

Where is Grogu during the last trilogy? Or will we probably find out in this series?

I was the biggest Expanded Universe Star Wars nerd. Because of Luke and his journey. I cried when Anakin Solo died. I got worried when Luke started saying there was no true Dark Side, only Dark people. I slogged through so much trash just to get a fix.

And then it was all ripped away. Disney taketh... but with The Mandalorian and specifically this episode, it has given - and made up for everything.

Goosebumps broke out when I saw the X-Wing behind our Mando and crew in the viewport. They stayed throughout the rest of that scene.

What. A. Payoff.

We've never seen a Jedi crumple a droid from the inside out - maybe in the Clone Wars, can't recall.

That's exactly the kind of thing I always pictured post-ROTJ Luke doing. Just an amazing scene.

They did a great job of replicating how his cloak flowed in Jabba's Palace, too. Just everything looked perfect, Mark's voice sounded right out of 1983.

Just ****ing stuck the landing. Amazing.

Grogu was a way to get to Luke Skywalker, and set up the Thrawn conflict.

That's where we need to be going now.

I had the same exact reactions! The second the X Wing was revealed, I choked up and tears began streaming down my face. That continued until Luke took Grogu. I couldn't control it.

I've been waiting most of my life to see Luke Skywalker after Return of the Jedi and after finally seeing it, I am just absolutely blown away and happier than I've been about a movie or book series probably my entire life.

I had hoped that this would happen and mentioned it more than a few times recently but nothing prepared me for actually seeing it onscreen.

Now that Luke has Grogu, I wonder if Din Djarin's journey is over and they'll pivot to The Book of Boba Fett? It doesn't seem like Favreau and Filoni could come up with a better way to end his journey than what we just saw today.

One thing I didn't expect to see in 2020 was Sasha Banks giving a tornado DDT to Boba Fett.

Boba threatening her in that scene was the closest I think we've gotten to menacing OT Fett in quite some time.

Loved that scene.

Entertainment websites are reporting that The Book of Boba Fett is a standalone series that began filming this year one month after The Mandalorian started filming.

There's been no announcement made by Disney+ at this point but they probably don't want ruin it for people that have yet to see it this weekend.

While I can see how the reveal could mean that, I don't think so, for a number of reasons.

Both Giancarlo Esposito and Brendan Wayne have reportedly filmed scenes for season 3.

They left the scene on the bridge between Din and Bo-Katan completely unresolved. Which can be interpreted as the cliffhanger for next season. And that is what I assume the next major story arc involves, the liberation of Mandalore and Din's role in it

The long rumored Boba Fett series has always been reported as a limited series, like the Obi-Wan show. Beyond that I don't know that a full 8 episode run would even be possible with temuera morrison, who seems to have a character appear in nearly every upcoming series.

Yeah, that totally makes sense. And in case you missed it, several entertainment outlets are already reporting that Season 3 of The Mandalorian began shooting months ago while the Boba Fett series started the following month.

This could be the Golden Age of Star Wars! Finally! After 37 freaking years!!!

While I loved it as much as anybody, I think it would have been really cool if Dune had recognized Luke, no so much as a Jedi but as a general during the rebellion. Just a couple of lines could have added so much to the reveal scene.

LUKE: [Flips back hood]

CARA: General Skywalker?

LUKE: [Smiles and nods]

BO-KATAN: [Slowly removes helmet] Was Anakin Skywalker your-

LUKE: Yes.

Oh well. It was still awesome.

Luke scene was great but it needs a little classic Williams behind it to really bring it to life. :D

I took it that now that he has the dark saber him and BoKatan are headed home.

I thought there was a fair chance she’d attack him to get the dark saber and he’d have to defend himself with the spear, which would have been a cool fight but I’m glad they didn’t do it.

Speaking of, why didn’t DJ toss Gideon the dark saber, she shoots him in the face and takes it? Probably a better story sending DJ to Mandalor

I was fairly disappointed they didn’t use Sebastian Stan and then roll out a series of post ROTJ Luke fun. Maybe that’s too big of bite for even these dudes. Might be impossible without cheapening it.

I’m younger than you guys that saw it in theaters but my brother wasn’t. So I got all these hand me down toys and I was like WTF is this? And then got in that way.
So I can’t imagine what you guys are thinking, but this was good for me. Hell of a job by F&F.

The music wasn’t very good and frankly took me out of it some.

Dumb to not kill Gideon after the dark troopers attacked. Part of setting up your defensive position is killing that sister****er.

It’s been awhile since I’ve seen clone wars but is the beskar really THAT good? Man they worked the shit out of that armor. Between the dark saber and the dark trooper, man.

I agree but it would have been too much foreshadowing, although he could have used Luke's theme as they were exiting.

I think we both agreed it would be Luke that showed up but I never thought we’d get to see Luke in his prime kicking major ass. Seeing the X-wing you knew it was Luke. Then the color of the light saber. Then you get the kick ass part. Then conversations and R2D2. Don’t care it was all CGI. It was glorious how they planned the scene.
