Ford is in a contract year. He’s going to ball, big time.

Clark Hunt won’t allow Veach to sign Reid, plus, it would piss off the fans to have another Kaepernick supporter.

Cutting Parker requires an adequate replacement, so they’ll either need to draft a guy in the 2nd (not a good use of draft capital this year) or sign someone in free agency before doing so.

The Chiefs have bigger needs to address in free agency like a starting left guard and defensive line help before shelling out cap space for a safety.

Have fun Alex.

Crowder and Scherff>>>Conley and LDT, but yeah. He'll struggle to replicate this season's success in a new offense with that supporting cast.

Redskins were 27th in points allowed, too. ROFL

I have a feeling 2009 Alex is about to resurface.

They paid a lot for a ****ing stopgap, though.

I got so much shit on here last season for saying cousins was a better QB than smith.

Redskins screwed the pooch with Cousins he wanted to sign for them 2 years ago at 24m.

Now they traded a pick and a DB for a downgrade cause they screwed the pooch with cousins by trying to play hardball.

Complete and utter speculation

pugsnotdrugs19 01-31-2018 04:27 PM

No need to cut Ford right now. You can never have enough pass rushers and I highly doubt the Chiefs will need that extra $8M this offseason.

If you wanna know why you don't cut Dee Ford, just look at the Eagles... or the Seahawks when they were at their peak. Or the Broncos a couple years ago...

You need a multitude of capable pass rushers. Even if he doesn't start, that's great depth for a year. Do you really want Frank Zombo starting again?

The Kansas City Chiefs under-performed in the playoffs this season, but regardless of that result we hear that changes to the roster have been expected for months now.

It has been widely speculated that Patrick Mahomes will replace Alex Smith at quarterback, and that Smith could be an enticing trade chip for a team that’s currently short of 2018 draft picks following last year’s trade for Mahomes.

That’s the obvious move that could happen. It also wouldn’t be surprising if Tamba Hali retires soon and Derrick Johnson is allowed to walk if he chooses to continue his career elsewhere. You can throw late-season pickup Darrelle Revis into that pool as well.

But we also wouldn’t be shocked to see a few more names of note added to that list. Punter Dustin Colquitt is a free agent and is not guaranteed to come back at age 35. Defensive tackle Bennie Logan and wide receiver Albert Wilson also have expiring contracts, and we’ve heard that Wilson especially could be looking for a bigger role elsewhere. It expanded late in the season, but we hear Wilson could be a target of the Chicago Bears, who could use someone with experience playing for new head coach Matt Nagy, Kansas City’s offensive coordinator last season.

Other possible salary-cap hits include Allen Bailey and Dee Ford. Cutting Bailey could save the team $6 million following a few injury-plagued seasons, and Ford – who hasn’t consistently rushed the passer, which was supposed to be his forte – would be on the books for $8 million in 2018. It might be surprising to some to see such as young pass-rush prospect cut before his rookie deal is up, but it’s absolutely a possibility.

I would keep Bailey over ford any day of the week.

TambaBerry 01-31-2018 04:32 PM

I want someone who will actually play, I'm not into paying a guy 9 million to sit out games

Foles expressing man-love for Alex:

Quote:

"Washington is very fortunate to have a quarterback in Alex Smith. My year with him was one of my favorite years of football," Foles said. "Just being there in Kansas City, getting to work with him, seeing a guy that for some reason people critique all the time, I mean, the guy's a winner. I mean, look at him. Look at what he did this year and he just keeps coming. He keeps getting better."

Foles labeled Smith as a player who "can turn a locker room around," calling him "one of the most athletic guys" in the NFL.

Cousins is a FA. It was Week 1 of the offseason which means that unless they signed Cousins to a brand new deal....he isn't on the team.

No, Ford should not be cut. Ford is immensely talented. His issue is not ability, it's durability. He's a young, talented, contract year player. This may be his best season ever coming up. You take the gamble.

Meh. All water under the bridge now. Doubt things ever got serious or there would have been rumors flying everywhere last year.

I'm sure Mahomes could have gotten us to 9-7.

We'll ALWAYS be wondering if he could have beaten the Titans now.

He would have beat the titans easily.

I would bet money.

If you can get a better player, fine. But he knows the system and is in a contract t year

And if he balls out, that's awesome for the team and likely nets you a pick in FA.

Literally zero reason to cut him.

KCrockaholic 01-31-2018 05:21 PM

He did look pretty damn great at training camp. I went up there twice, and both times he did amazing things that I've never seen a KC QB do in my history of being alive.

If Alex had been concussed (instead of Kelce), we win in a laugher.

There's no guarantee that they would have gotten a haul compared to what they just got. I'm ****ing ecstatic that we got Fuller. I can deal with that Titans loss to have Fuller on this team.

LMAO kelce is upset over the trade.

pugsnotdrugs19 01-31-2018 05:25 PM

Charles Woodson just said it best. I'll paraphrase.

'Everyone says Alex Smith was chucking it, taking chances this year... he wasn't. He was throwing to guys who were wide open, making plays he was supposed to make. Mahomes will take actual chances and allow his guys to go make plays in contested situations like Kelce and Hill.'

I hadn't been to TC since River Falls. Went just to see Mahomes. Was so blown away I went back the next Saturday.

He was making chicken salad out of chicken shit Kemp and Dieter.

I still think the one year on the bench was perfect. He ironed out a lot of his technical flaws and likely mastered much of the playbook with very little pressure. I think it was for the best.

Well I look forward to seeing you out there next year, because I know everybody will be drooling to see Mahomes with the 1's in camp.

It was all a mirage. Woodson paid attention.

And just think, with Mahomes you get the easy open downfield throws AND the 50/50 balls.

It's going to be glorious. This offense should be one of the toughest in the league to defend, easily.

To be fair, having Alex Smith and giving up the farm is like being thrown to the pit of misery for 5 years. He'll always get ya there, but will make sure to never finish the job. An endless cycle of hope and despair.

Watching PTI ....Michael Wilbon just poo pooed all over the trade cause he said Mahomes is unproven and we traded a proven winner in AS....
****ing Moron!!!! It's about developing a QB to win in the postseason...Typical talking head moron...

There were a lot of mad Redskins fans on Reddit this morning. I was amazed at how many said they would just follow whatever team Cousins went to. What is it about mediocre QBs that develop fan cults? I mean, I could see following Montana over but Cousins or Smith?

It's the devils advocate approach so that they have something to disagree on/talk about.

Yep. I've seen it to some degree on almost every talk show today.

pugsnotdrugs19 01-31-2018 05:54 PM

Just taking into account what we know about Peters and Fuller...

Which corner duos are you taking over them in the NFL right now?

Off the top of my head, I'd say Jacksonville. Denver is a no likely due to the Talib situation which is up in the air, wouldn't take them long term over Peters/Fuller. That might be it.

My guess: Veatch and Nagy thought about it. When they told Fat andy, he became enraged and chucked his bag of Jack In The Box against the office wall, and Veatch said "Ok ok big fella, it was just a thought"
