New Far Cry game.

Looks ugly as hell with all the high contrast pink.

I want to like Far Cry games, but the narrative is always so hackneyed that I leave the campaign experience angry.

Doesn't look very post-apocalyptic. Considering that they'll probably be charging full price....I'll be waiting until it goes on sale to get it.

Far Cry 3 was the best one. 4 was ok....and 5 has been meh.

New Far Cry game.

I actually have enjoyed the last two Far Crys (not Primal).

Thought the ending of 5 was one of the better endings to a video game I've played in quite some time.

'Hamas' Jenkins 12-07-2018 08:55 PM

Hated the ending of 5. It was so convoluted they had to go back and stress the radio station chatter so that it would actually make sense.

I agree to a point, then you realize it's the same thing over and over. It's great when a new season launches for a couple of weeks, then you have everything and only reason to play is to grind the harder rifts. Diablo 2 had so much more to it and so many more areas to explore. Really hoping they do a new looter shooter type Diablo in the future.

Some of us prefer single player.

And games that allow both usually hose solo players.

Fallout 76 totally allows solo players but ya I get it a few years ago I was a single player guy only. I remember when games would give you the option of both as well. I'm actually totally for online games allowing solo play, one such game is the Division which punishes players for going solo.

played 18 quite a bit when it came out, the Diamond Dynasty mode. Hated it, won't be buying it again. You either hit a home run or a pop up, that was pretty much it. Contact hitters weren't viable. You could do a fast player for base running cheese and you would get several errors per game with good fielders and everybody's lineup just had all power because that's all that mattered. Pitching was pretty terrible too, you couldn't throw fastballs, just low curves and sliders and everybody ran the bronze Neikro card for cheesy knuckleballs that most people couldn't hit.

I don't mess with DD. Maybe I'm too old I dunno. I do play h2h online and get some pretty good games in. I use the pulse for pitching. It's easier to throw more accurate pitches. Using the analog option, pitches would constantly float back to the middle of the plate and batters would hit them out of the park.

But yeah, power is pretty important. It's hard to get hit after hit to score. Just have to try to get a couple of guys on base then go for the dinger.

That's a bit of recall bias. D2 wasn't nearly as large as D3 in terms of unique locations and it was totally repetitive as well. They're essentially the same game only D3 has way more loot.

Also the runeword system is something no other company has touched and it was an awesome idea. You could also trade in Diablo 2 something that's pretty much lost on most of these types of games nowadays. Lots of different builds and skills/trees compared to 3. Diablo 2 did a lot of things great and those ideas were never expounded upon since that time. I'm not sure Diablo 3 has a lot more loot, even some rares in Diablo 2 were still great in the endgame especially the randomly created amulets.

I love both games, but Diablo 2 kept me for 10 plus years before the graphics were just too outdated. Diablo 3 while fun seems to be ok to keep you for a month or two and then let you go until the next season restarts.

lcarus 12-10-2018 12:19 PM

I bought Shadow of the Tomb Raider on sale for $30 bucks and I'm enjoying it. It doesn't seem a whole hell of a lot different than Rise of the Tomb Raider in terms of gameplay. So far they put a bigger emphasis on tombs. If you can imagine actually having tombs to raid in....Tomb Raider. Less emphasis on stupid, boring, repetitive duck and cover shootouts every 10 seconds.

How is the zombies in BO4? That's really the only thing I care about in COD. Loved most of BO3 zombies maps.

Just finished Darksiders 3 last night and I really don't get what all the hate is about. Sure, there were elements that were questionable, namely Fury's dialogue, but I found it to be a fun game overall. I'd wait for a sale, you don't need to spend $60 on it, but I would be surprised if it wasn't on the Steam Christmas Sale here in a week or two.

I wait on almost every game anymore. It's great when you get a game with all the bugs ironed out, all the DLC included, and all for 1/3 the price or better. The only game I bought on day 1 was RDR2 and I might do the same with RE2.

Well....No I would love to have alien races you're actually fighting against or monsters etc. No Star Trek plot twists or anything too exciting in this game. Like I said it's cool to pop it in every once in a while but there just isn't enough to do in the game. Trading is cool but when that's the endgame activity? meh

Huge PS4 holiday sale going on

https://www.gamespot.com/articles/hu.../1100-6463839/

Sony has kicked off a truly massive multi-week-long Holiday Sale on PSN. Week 1 is now live, offering discounts on over 1,200 digital games, bundles, and add-ons for PS4, PS3, and PS Vita. Some of the deals will last until January 15, while others are set to end on December 18. And if you're a PS Plus member, you get an extra discount on many of the games. Here are some of the best deals available right now.

Hitman 2 just launched last month, but it's already on sale for half price, bringing it down to $30--how about that? It's a fine game, too, receiving 8/10 in GameSpot's Hitman 2 review. Another of the year's biggest games, Monster Hunter World, is discounted to $25, while one of last year's PS4 exclusives, Gravity Rush 2, is on sale for $12. And if you missed out on Uncharted: The Lost Legacy, you can grab it now for just $8.

You can get a number of hits from earlier in the PS4's life cycle for almost nothing during the sale as well. From Software's gothic masterpiece Bloodborne is down to $7, while another dark, brooding game, Inside, is on sale for $6. And while we're on the subject of darkness, you can pick up the "rhythm-violence" game Thumper for $6 as well (it's great in PSVR).

If a kill-crazy animatronic bear sounds like a fun character to spend time with, pick up Danganronpa 1-2 Reload for $20 and Danganronpa V3: Killing Harmony for $36. For anyone with fond memories of the mascot platformers of yore, you can pick up Jak and Daxter: The Precursor's Legacy for $6 or the Spyro + Crash Remastered Game Bundle for $49.50.

I'll be all over RE2, that was my favorite one and the service they're doing to it looks stellar. Watching the Leon sewer demo and seeing the huge gator's tail move to the right as you come down a tunnel, I geeked out pretty hard on that one.

The funny thing about the original RE2 is I never unlocked Mr. X. I beat the game but I guess I didn't play back through it to get that character unlocked, so seeing him now I'm pretty pumped.

I'm also considering the Rift.

1. What do you play?

2. Is it worth the investment?

3. How much better is the Rift than PSVR?

4. Do you regret buying the Rift over the Vive?

5. How many hours per week do you put into it? Do you play it more than traditional gaming (m/k, controller etc..)

Beat Saber

Space Pirate Trainer
Rec Room
Lone Echo
Pavlov

2. Is it worth the investment?

For me it is. The most fun I have had with video games since Super Mario 64. Every time you put the headset on, you will be wowed.

3. How much better is the Rift than PSVR?

The Rift has super sampling, higher framerate for the most part, and far far superior controllers and tracking. PSVR is still worthwhile, but given the choice, the Rift is better.
4. Do you regret buying the Rift over the Vive?

No regrets whatsover. The Vive has very minimal upgrades to the FOV, but the controllers are worse (seriously, the Oculus Touch controllers are sublime and worth the price of admission). In addition, the Oculus store has great exclusives that you cant play on Vive without effort.

5. How many hours per week do you put into it? Do you play it more than traditional gaming (m/k, controller etc..)

About 6 hours, which is more than my other hobbies. Only Smash Bros has taken my attention.

How is the userbase on Pavlov? I've watched vids but it seems more often than not there are a lot of bots in games.

Pavlov is probably the number 1 reason I'm interested in VR.

There is usually about 200 or more folks on every time I get on, and I always find a room with real people. It plays just like VR counterstrike with custom levels.

The answer is: sort of. With two front facing senors, I can usually play in an 8x8 area. I only have slight issues when I turn my back to the sensors and occlude the controllers with my body. This is an area where Vives' lighthouse sensors have an advantage to produce true 360 roomscale.

I do not. I havent felt a major need outside a couple instances. Hear it gives better 360 room scale, but thats a lot of ports used, especially considering they need USB 3.0.

Got in on the Alpha test for Tom Clancys Division 2 and although i'm under NDA i'll just say they made the huge roaming PVE area that I wanted in the first game so i'm really happy. Shooter mechanics are about the same with better weapon control, can't get enough of a great 3rd person cover shooter. Also looks like so much to do I will never get bored of the same content. Props to Massive I gave them tons of shit from the first game but they listened and made this one better.

Just played through Xcom 2. Strongly recommend War of the Chosen DLC.

Got the Remastered Dark Souls trilogy, replaying through that. 1st Dark Souls looks pretty sharp on an Xbox One X with 75" 4k screen.

Just downloaded original xbox game Mercenaries: Playground of Destruction, can't wait to see how well it upscales.

Still have RDR2, Halo Wars 2, and Fallout 4 to start.

I get that way too and then I get bored after I find out you're just out there piddling around and no real goals other than trading. I'm not saying it's bad and I like different Genres. I still feel like it's missing something though. Personally the original devs have gone way above and beyond what they should for free though and i'm happy to hear that they put out new content regularly. I'll go back and check it out periodically.

Caught up on a lot of Switch games with my days off between XMas and NYD...and holy shit there are some real GOTY contenders here.

Into The Breach, The Messenger, and Octopath Traveler are all on my Top 10 of 2018 now...

I think it's you that is missing something. There are definite goals and a primary mission of figuring what the hell is going on.

There is a primary mission and a SHIT TON of side missions.

Everyone seems to love that Octopath game, I haven't gotten to it yet.

I did pick up a ton of games during Christmas and after because of sales to add to my collection during this time I picked up all of these games at least 25% off some over half...

Madden 19
Detroit Become Human
Spyro Trilogy
Fire Pro Wrestling World
Castlevania Requiem
Sonic Mania
Donkey Kong Tropical Freeze
Super Smash Bros
Crash Bandicoot Nsane Trilogy

And for shits and giggles cause they were majorly marked down
Jak And Daxter trilogy and the precursor legacy
Destroy all humans 1 and 2 since they were all like 2 bucks a piece

Solid Holiday Haul I think.

Sassy Squatch 01-02-2019 06:43 PM

A lot of quality in that list.

Right i'm just saying the main questline hasn't really pulled me in. More in it for exploration and fun factor. I do think the game needs true enemies other than just survival. Maybe a mode where enemies are a thing so it doesn't screw with what others like, as i'm not sure most that play this want enemies.

Just started playing the PS4 re-master of Shadow of the Colossus. How did I completely miss this game the first time around?

I thought the first one was boring as hell. Yeah, the graphics are cool and all but omg the game was boring.

Very good. If you havent done so, their magnum opus is FTL. I suggest playing it on PC or Ipad.

If you want other similar rogue like suggestions, that is my forte.

Yeah FTL was awesome...never been a real big RTS guy but man ITB is awesome. It's more like chess than anything, great game.

It's a stripped-down, no-nonsense gameplay loop. I actually like it. It's a little bit puzzle, a little bit platform, and a little bit action.

thought i would share my latest project. A hybrid retro/mame machine....but instead of cabinet or mini-cabinet, I used an ikea coffee table. Light enough to easily move from room to room. Lots of USB and HDMI inputs on the side of the table for quick connect.

Graphics, etc. all done by myself. Feeling pretty good for a guy who barely passed wood shop in junior high!

Forgive me for not knowing but what exactly is that? A video game? Gaming rig?

Tech meets ingenuity meets craftsmanship. Well done.

Mecca 01-04-2019 10:45 PM

I literally watched a guy take one of those new mini arcade cabinets they're selling...they're perfect for sitting in a chair in front of..and he used a retro pie to basically make it a perfect gaming rig.

stop pirating old games. Buy the actual neo geo cartridges
