Listen just face it, Nebraska isn't an elite school anymore. I know it is tough to swallow but its the truth. You're not a terrible team but you're not a great one either.

Very few schools are, but our history/tradition is elite. We are actually taking steps to get back in the national spotlight. That includes refraining from hiring a position coach as our HC.

Prison Bitch 12-06-2014 05:08 PM

You've been reduced to talking about your olden days to KU fans who don't even care. Like an old man in a retirement home boring everyone about his youth.

But you know... facilities!

Lol they just got built. Iowa State was always poor until conference realignment. There also wasn't close to sold out stadiums hardly ever until CPR and Fred were hired. Literally started from the bottom and have made huge strides. CPR has taken a step back after our OC left for Ohio State and then he promoted from within and it backfired. But he's getting the benefit of the doubt and a chance to redeem himself.

Well our best receiver did get hurt for the year the first game. We also have two other four star receivers talented enough to start for most Big12 schools who made their first career starts this year. Pretty good chance they all get better after their first years of playing. Also picked up some Juco DL(including the top DT) to pair with the guys brought in last year who were hurt before the season started and then also the freshman and sophomore guys who played last year getting their first years of experience.

Actually most of the team was new starters or depth getting exoerience for the first time. No where to go but up. Over half the staff was new on top of that and all the injurys. Continuity will play a huge role in a better year.

Braincase 12-15-2014 09:59 PM

I'm going to say even odds we get a Big 12 road win next season. It'd be nice to break that streak.

That would gphave been a very bad gamble. I do think you've got at least a 50-50 shot at Iowa State, though, so you've got a much better than 50-50 chance of winning at least one road game.

Is next year the Clones' year? Has to be right?

After you all win the Big 12 BB title, you're gunning for the FB title next year. I can totally see it.

He obviously had a list of guys he knew he wanted from his days at A&M.

A&M just landed Christian Kirk, 5 start WR out of Arizona. I'm sure Beaty was involved as much as anyone getting him there.

It's very exciting.

His recruiting abilities have never been in question, especially with his Texas ties. We will definitely see an increase in the talent level, the question is whether or not he can coach up these kids so that we see the talent transition to an elevated level of play on the field....

Reerun_KC 12-17-2014 04:25 PM

He needs to get him a kickass OC and DC.

I don't know if it's been posted, but it looks like you guys are hiring Kevin Kane. Former kU player, as I'm sure you all know.

Listened to him speak last winter at a clinic, and the guy is intense. I think he's a good get for you guys. I was very impressed with his organization and vision.

Like I said, I only saw him at a clinic, and haven't seen him coach. But he came in and took over a room filled with nothing but strong A personalities. Most college coaches who speak at these clinics come in with a little humor, a little kissing up, etc. he came in and spoke to the room like a room full of players. it was odd, but intense, and I believe he's a good coach based on that impression.

Mr_Tomahawk 12-23-2014 11:43 AM

My old HS coach...

Olathe North coach Gene Wier to join Kansas’ football staff

Gene Wier, the legendary Olathe North football coach who guided the program to six Kansas state titles, is leaving the school to take an off-field position in the KU football program, a source told The Star on Monday.

Wier, who also spent nine years at Richland High School in the Dallas-Fort Worth area, is set to become Kansas’ director of high school relations, a role that will deal heavily in recruiting.

It’s the latest staff addition for new Kansas coach David Beaty, who was officially hired on Dec. 5. Beaty retained defensive coordinator Clint Bowen and is expected to retain running-backs coach Reggie Mitchell, who continued to recruit during the early part of December. In addition, Beaty is expected to bring on Northern Illinois linebackers coach Kevin Kane in a similar role at Kansas. Kane, a Rockhurst High graduate, played linebacker at Kansas during 2002-05.

At his introductory news conference, Beaty, a former high school coach in the Dallas-Fort Worth area, spoke about the importance of recruiting both locally in the state of Kansas and in the fertile grounds of Texas. In his position as director of high school relations, Wier should be able to tap into his connections in both areas.

Wier’s departure, meanwhile, leaves a vacancy at Olathe North, which advanced to the Kansas 6A state semifinals this season before losing to eventual state champion Shawnee Mission East. It was Wier’s third season back at Olathe North after leading the program through its dynasty years in the late 1990s and early 2000s. The Eagles won six state titles in seven seasons from 1996 to 2002.

During his first 22 seasons at Olathe North, beginning in 1981, Wier coached the Eagles to an 188-36 record while nurturing a conveyor belt of stars, including future K-State and NFL standout Darren Sproles and future Division I standouts Arland Bruce (Minnesota) and Maurice Mack (K-State).

Weir departed Olathe North in 2003 for the head coaching job at Richland High School in North Richland Hills, Texas. A graduate of the University of Kansas, Wier’s son, Brandon, also played football at Kansas during 1998-2000.

Lzen 12-23-2014 11:49 AM

Hmmm, not sure what to make of Weir but it appears good on paper. I also like the Kane hiring. That guy was a very good ILB for KU in Mangino's early years. Hopefully, he can coach as well as he could play.
