SNR's Top Ten Darkhorses for Hootie's Top Ten
1. cdcox- This guy has it all. He's universally well-liked, extremely thoughtful, creative, and his prediction software kicks unbelievable amounts of ass. He's got good grammar, he's polite without being annoyingly chummy, and is a long-time vet. I shouldn't even be listing him as a darkhorse, but he still tends to get overlooked by people. No clue why. 2. DJ's Left Nut- Here's another guy who shouldn't even be on this list. I simply haven't found any room yet on the first two drafts of my Big Board Top Ten, but I'm almost positive as things clear up he'll be in the running for a spot. I don't know of any other poster who can authoritatively deliver his football opinions from such a clear and dispassionate perspective. One downside is he's a lawyer. Hootie's experiences with lawyers might be somewhat sour what with all the raping he does. 3. tk13- I don't frequent Royals threads too much, and I don't see him posting football stuff as often as he used to, but his positive reputation around the forum and good-natured personality make him somebody that nearly everybody considers in a top quality poster. Really, the only reason why he's on the darkhorse list is because I don't like how he makes fun of me for liking Gordon Lightfoot's "The Wreck Of The Edmund Fitzgerald." It's a good song, damn it. 4. Demonpenz- A far subtler version of Thig Lyfe who doesn't seem to bruise quite so many vaginas. Personally, I find his McRib story to be one of the finest posts ever crafted on Chiefs Planet. His problem is going to be the presence of Thig Lyfe and a few others with eclectic personalities. There may not be enough room to fit all of them in the top ten, but Demon's got a pretty decent chance. 5. keg in kc- I've got quite a few dinosaurs on here who were around from the earliest days of Chiefs Planet. Keg's in the realm of cdcox and tk13 in terms of likeability. If Hootie looks past keg's tendency to disappear for weeks at a time as well as his love of nerd culture, keg's got a top ten ranking in the bag. 6. Direckshun- A poster on my personal top ten list, there's no guy in the entire forum who performs his citizenly duty to the Planet as much as Direckshun. And by that I mean rather than sit around and bitch about the dullness, monotony, or culture that the forum takes, Direckshun is always out there to do something about it. He asks questions. Starts threads. Puts out content and DISCUSSION material. Not sure if Hootie will see it that way, and instead might be annoyed by all the mock drafts he posts. But it's something that can not be ignored, and it will keep Direckshun in the discussion for a top ten slot. 7. Saulbadguy- I'm taking a total stab in the dark on this one. I don't think there's anybody on this forum who can stir so many panties with such little effort. It's beautiful how he does it. The man should write a book. Zen in the Art of ****ing With People. 8. loochy- Another poster in the Demonpenz mode with a little more of a straightforward style. If I were to compare them all to members of the Monty Python troupe, he'd be the Terry Jones to Demonpenz's Eric Idle to Thig Lyfe's Terry Gilliam. Strong candidate for the 8-10 slots. 9. milkman- A sour old man who gets turned off by the crazy antics of young whipper snappers. Many people believe milkman won't score well with his running gag of calling people dumbasses. He's a poster that may crack the top ten through his no-nonsense football knowledge, something that has earned him respect since this community's first few days of infancy. 10. DaFace- Very likely we won't see any mods in the top ten, but if there is one, it's gotta be DaFace. During the "unnecessary drama" spat with Gonzo, Hootie mentioned how he longed for the Chiefs Planet where DaFace was the primary mod on the job. The fact that he's a mod is what being a darkhorse is all about. |

Does this mean that I think you are probably kind of hot, but I'm not really sure because you won't post a good picture? |

I'm too lazy to check right now, but the other day you were at the top in rep Hootie. Did you earn all of it or did a mod help you out?

I think it'll be funny (interesting, not comedic) to see where Hootie's list falls in line with the top 101 in rep, if at all.

I have given 40 total reps since November 2012.
Most of them are probably when I'm still drunk and giggly in the morning. |

I just find the rep system fascinating. I find it hilarious when I see certain people at the top of the rep chain and then I read their posts and think to myself, "what are people repping?"

Anybody else watching Jeopardy! right now?
I can't ****ing stand the returning champion. He's a dickbag Yankees fan and he also picks clues all over the ****ing map. He doesn't start at the bottom or the top. And he'll do something like, "Potent Potables" for $400 and $800 respectively, then completely switch categories and dollar amounts! ****ing prick. |

I find it to be the only good still-running game show on TV. More than any other, it encourages the viewer at home to play along. |

I also love how you don't have to know anything about the categories to gain an educated guess from the clue. For example, here was today's final jeopardy in the category "Art Subjects"
In 1816, Francisco Goya published a series of 33 etchings called "La Tauromaquia," which depict this activity. I know only a little bit about art, but almost nothing about Goya. I also know almost zero Spanish. I was able to get the correct response given the cues from the clue. Now THAT is a superior game show. It places more emphasis on actual smarts in its contestants than just a backlog of trivia knowledge they might possess. |
I've officially lost interest. maybe I'll come back later int he summer and get caught up.

Surprisingly, the hotshot dickbag New York guy didn't get it. He clearly shat his pants and guessed "What is the Spanish Inquisition?" Serves him right. Glad he's not going to play anymore. |
Don't underestimate the impact of time constraints and television pressure.
A friend of mine actually made it on Jeopardy and the final question asked something about the Presidential election. It ended up being a civil war era answer and my buddy said something like 1857. An odd number. For a Presidential election question. Yeah - that's stupid. And we all know it sitting here because we're not sitting there with a few thousand dollars on the line. But yeah, bullfighting sure seemed pretty easy there. |

Also, while the Final Jeopardy clues can be decipherable if you've got a broad enough base of knowledge, oftentimes it will be a category that you think is pretty simple, but the clue is wicked hard.
For example, Monday's clue had three pretty damn good players and they all got this one wrong in the category "20th Century People": In a PS to an April 12, 1945 letter, he wrote, "this was dictated before the world fell in on me... what a blow it was, but-- I must meet it." I would have bet a lot on that category, but I would have gotten it wrong. Then there's the one from the next day, in which I'm somewhat meh on the category, but the question clearly provided all the clues one needed to come up with the right answer. I just didn't put them together. Only one contestant got this one right in "French Literature": An article about improvements in transportation, including the opening of the Suez Canal, inspired this 1873 novel. Correct responses:

Jesus Christ dude no one cares

even though I did read all of that and the spoiler for the answers I could have never gotten right in a million years since I never paid attention to anything at any point of my education 'career'

I actually don't usually watch Jeopardy; I was just giving SNR a bad time. The game show that makes me feel smart is "Who Wants To Be a Millionaire". |
I got the first one - That guy lived in a constant state of self-doubt. I read through a lot of his personal correspondence, etc... at the Truman Library as part of my capstone project in college. He was just constantly doubting himself and his qualifications. Just a dour dude. Churchill never had such compunction. He was pretty damn sure he was a God.

Anybody able to get the 2nd one right? That one was really tough. I think for that one you just have to have a large mass of knowledge about French Literature... think about the 5 or 6 most famous French authors and what they wrote that was so damn important.
Outside of stuff by Dumas and Hugo (Les Miz, Hunchback) I was drawing a blank. Jules Verne didn't even occur to me, which sucks because I read a whole bunch of his stuff in high school. I was kind of obsessed with him. Didn't read Around the World in 80 Days, though. |
