EH Taylor Single Barrel usually runs around $65 maybe? Since bourbon flipper's went apeshit crazy and started runs on everything by Sazerac, the Taylor bourbons and ryes have been increasingly hard to find. Just last year, I could grab cases of EH Taylor Single Barrel, seriously. There was always at least a full row at my local HyVee. Now, if you're lucky, you will maybe find the Straight Rye at about $75 and the Small Batch for around $45. Good luck with any of the more limited releases, they pretty much vanish instantly.

Pablo 11-01-2018 07:32 PM

Bought a bottle of Old Grandad 114 on a whim a while back. It drinks very very smoothly for its abv and has some real rye to it if that's your thing. I like it a whole lot and it was only 28 bucks. It does have a nice taste but will **** you up if you aren't careful.

At least you aren't drinking shitty Jack Daniels anymore Billay. Thank you and God bless.

I've bought that RR on your recommendation and very much enjoyed it.

Great choice. It’s got a great rye finish (heat).

Glad you enjoyed the Russell’s Reserve man! The Best $30 bourbon you can easily find.

Had some blantons tonight at Gibson’s restaurant in Chicago. Apparently they have a private blantons stock or something? It was 14 bucks for a glass but it was good

They probably purchased their own single barrel. In the past year or so, Blanton's has started doing this more. It's awesome and the single barrels are typically REALLY good.

Especially since a 750ml might run $70 and change. That's a pretty good margin with 1 or 2 oz pours.

I inquired about getting a bottle of High West A Midwinter's Night Dram last year at my local store. They didn't get any bottles but kept my name on their list for allocated bottles for this year. To my surprise they called yesterday and had a bottle waiting for me.

It wasn't cheap but it is by far the best Rye I have ever tasted.

Can't recommend High West enough

Ok guys I need some advice, need to get some bourbon for my dad as a Christmas present.

He is normally a big Jack Daniel fan, single barrel and Gentlemen, but he started saying something about wanting a nice bourbon the other day.

So what would you guys buy for him, I was thinking Buffalo Trace from the reviews but really not sure

If he wants a nice bourbon go with Angels Envy. It's one of my favorites and just easy to drink. Also decently priced.https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...bd2405fb51.jpg

Also a really nice bourbon at about the same price point is Russel's Reserve 10 yo. Also check out the holiday box sets. For the normal price of the bourbon you get a couple nice whiskey glasses. Knob creek always has a nice set and its good bourbon. I was in Sam's club and Four Roses had a really nice box set. Im not really much for Four Roses but many here are.

Perineum Ripper 11-18-2018 10:28 PM

Hadn’t heard of Angels Envy or Russel’s Reserve before I will look into those. Have had Knob Creek before thought about getting him that. I heard of Four Roses and have thought he might like it.

I’m looking for something that’s easy to sip, if that makes any difference in options. It might also be something he mixes every now and then

Got a promotion at work. Parents gifted me this for my effort.

Private barrel pick by a liquor store in Prescott, AZ that’s known for their amazing beer, wine and liquor selection. These guys make numerous trips to buy and bottle private barrels.

Congrats on the promotion!

There was some Elmer T Lee that became available here yesterday, but you had to be one of the first 12 to show up. I thought about it for a second, but no way was I getting there before 12 others who were blowing off their families the day after Thanksgiving.

Marcellus 11-29-2018 07:42 PM

Had some High West Double Rye last night at a local hangout, bartender bought me round, I was a bit impressed. Neat and warm it was still pretty damn smooth. I am going to grab some and further experiment.

Stopped to pick some up tonight and where I went didn't have it so I picked up some Redemption Rye, it seems pretty solid for $20. Not bad for the price but not worth writing home about. Would make a great cheap mixer.

It's ok but nothing special. 80 proof (boring) and light. Many like it's but it's just Meh, especially at that price point.

Elijah Craig all day over that if you haven't had it. Good shit and cheaper.

Find some nice private barrel picks from Knob Creek or 4 Roses. It always feels more special when it's a specialty bottle.

What about the Buffalo Trace Line? Weller 12, Antique and Special Reserve. Gift all 3 in a set would be awesome.

Blanton's is over-rated for the price....as I keep telling you guys.

Mrs. OTW bought some bottles for clients, and I get to pick one of them for myself. Don't have any knowledge of any of them except the Taylor.

EH Taylor Small Batch
Blood Oath Pact 4
Jeffersons Reserve Pritchard Hill
Jeffersons Reserve Twin Oak Custom Barrel
Yellowstone Limited 101 (2018)

Anyone willing to rank these? I'm a huge Taylor fan, but want to grab something else if it's good and/or semi-rare.

Authentic Whiskey Sour with first time lemons from my Meyer Lemon tree that has been in ground for 2 years.

1. Fill cocktail shaker with ice.
2. Shake 1 egg white in shaker to aerate
3. Add 2 oz bourbon, juice from 2 lemons and 1 tsp of Agave Nectar
4. Shake vigorously and strain over ice in glass.

You don't need a high end cocktail bar, I just told you how to make it! The egg white makes it....gives it that great color and froth for texture. It's awesome.

Gotta love how stores will rip people off due to allotments. At that price a guy is better off buying several bottles of Blantons, McKenna 10 year and Eagle Rare.

People are willing to pay up for that stuff. Guessing it is people that either have money to blow to impress their friends and people that have never tried the stuff. If they did they would know it is not worth that price per ounce based on taste.

That being said good on you for trying to help guys out get the stuff if they wanted it.

I don't mind paying a little bit more but for those prices, nah. If I were to ever spend at that level, i'd want like a 25 year macallan or something.

Give me Blantons or woodford for like a tenth of that price.
