Ovechkin within 10 of Gretzky now... had he kept his season pace without missing 16 games, he would have topped it by now.

And nine goals in his last 10 games.

Didn't like Ovechkin at first, but he's grown on me the last several years. But no matter how many goals he scores, he ain't no Gretsky.

Yeah, he always struck me as the typical Russian primadonna, who obviously does one thing incredibly well... and while Gretzky hold the goals and assists record, Ovechkin isn't even in the top 50 in all time assists.

One playoffs a few years ago, he took a shot from his typical spot and it clean missed the net... he went down to his knees to pout about it as the puck went around the boards and the other way. And I though, damn that guy may never win a Cup. And of course that was the same year they won the Cup. LMAO

I think most people expected him to drop off to ~20 goals/season and for this to take at least another season if not two... crazy to think it could happen in the next month or so.

GTFO with this bullshit. He's the greatest goal scorer of all time. And nobody comes close. He's a unwaivering machine and puts Gretsky's hockey scoring to shame. Put him in the 80's, with the rules they had, and he'd have exploded for 1200 goals.

He'll also blow you right the **** up if you don't have your head up.

He's not as physical as he used to be, but Ovi used to be a tank and someone who had to make sure you kept an eye on while he was on the ice.

He wasn't someone looking to hit guys, but if you made it easy on him, he'd punish your ass.

Gretzky would just use it as a chance for an easy line change.

Great pickup, but paid a steep price. Gave up Richie, who was basically our only stud prospect, as well as a 1st. Hope it's not just for a late season rental.

But on the bright side, fills the Avs biggest hole. Been trying to get a 2C since they let Kadri go, which in hindsight was a mistake. Avs are obviously going all-in for this window with Nate. This move makes them a legit Cup contender this season.
