Always thought traditional Catholic beliefs lined up a bit more with conservative viewpoints, not necessarily that they actually spoke of politics. But you know what they say about assuming and all that.

You aren't wrong. The religious teachings and guidance from the pope do trend that way. On the flip side I think a lot of my family saw Democrats as being more "charitable/help other people". If you want to you can kinda look at either party in whatever light you want and find a way to make it work with your particular flavor of Catholicism. Butker might be the only one I've ever heard in the United States actually so hard line that he's against birth control. 99.9% just pretend that's not a thing.
