OK...I've done some thinking on this one.

Here's my all time terrible Kansas City Royals 25 man roster.
Now, my criteria is this:
•Players had to spend a decent amount of time actually playing and affecting games, sucking like a hoover.
OR...
•Player had to have cost us a high draft pick or a shitload of money and delivered NOTHING in return,
OR....
•Player had to be acquired in a one-sided terrible trade and burned the team,
OR....
•Player had to have been a total A-HOLE and clubhouse cancer.

Here it is:

1B: Ken Harvey
2B: Terry Shumpert
SS: Neifi Perez
3B: Craig Pauquette
C: Ed Hearn
LF: Kevin McReynolds
CF: Dee Brown
RF: Juan Gonzalez
DH: Mike Jacobs

Starting Pitchers:
Scott Anderson
Kyle Davies
Dan Reichert
Runelvys Hernandez
Jonathan Sanchez

Relievers:
Brian Anderson
Yasuhiko Yabuta
Mark Davis
Vin Mazzaro
Albie Lopez

Closer:
Ricky Bottalico

Bench:
Yuni Betancourt
Mark Quinn
Tony Pena Jr.
Calvin Pickering
Mike DiFelice

Now that's a stench!

Remember when Tony Pena Jr batted with 1 hand and got a hit lol

Fansy the Famous Bard 04-10-2013 10:35 AM

No Doug Henry or Blowberto?

Saul Good 04-10-2013 10:38 AM

Shumpert doesn't seem to meet your criteria. McReynolds wasn't that bad, and Hearn got hurt. Not sure they belong on the list.

Quinn wasn't a bad player, either. Neither was Pickering, and I'm not sure how be fits the profile, either.

No list is complete without Chuck Knoblauch or Juan Gonzalez on it.

And good lord, George. That roster would be hari-kari worthy if it were real life.

Terry Shumpert: 5 years in KC, .220 batting average.

Pickering: 2 years in KC: 8 HRs, 56Ks.

McReynolds is what we got from the Mets for Saberhagen. In 2 years with KC, he hit .246. He was out of baseball a year later.

Hearn is what we got for David Cone. Yes, he was hurt, but that trade really cost us. Cone made it back to KC as a Free Agent and won a Cy Young in 1994, then the Royals traded him again in 1995.

Quinn in four years hit .282 which is great, but it was a very hollow .282. He K'ed 184 times and only walked 56 times, only hit a total of 45 homers (that's 11 per year) from a power position (outfield). And his outfield play and fielding was atrocious. He also put himself on the DL, getting hurt Kung-Fu Fighting with his brother. Bonehead.

Pickering had fewer than 150 career ABs for the Royals.

Well, you could pick an all-washed-up team. Players who came here on their last legs. That would include guys like Harmon Killebrew, Vida Blue, Chili Davis, Reggie Sanders, Miguel Tejada, etc etc etc. There's been a ton of those guys limp through here.

Who knows? I will say that after the opening day game, on TV last nights game the stadium looked only about half full.

You do realize that there were strong thunderstorms forecast for the area and the game ended in a deluge of rain, no?

Good point, actually.

It is possible that I'm just trying to block memories of all the "talent" that we had come through our own system to arrive in the bigs and only watch them poop all over themselves.

McReynolds is my all time most hated Royal. He was terribad.

Remember when Mark Quinn failed to walk in 1000 at bats, then when he walked they set off the fireworks at the K...
