Gervon Dexter and a 1st in 2024?
We're getting to the point where I think we'd have to make that deal. I'd hate it, but Dexter's a 2nd rounder and the 1st is effectively worth a 2nd.
So a pair of 2nds for Jones? Eh, it's a hair light, but man, think of what that $20 million in rollover does for the cap situation next season. And Dexter might be able to contribute this season. Wormley won't be ready until October at the earliest but maybe Ioannidis can help out quickly. Hicks might have some gas left in the tank.
I dunno - there are ways to mitigate the damage for 2023 and ways to really catapult ourselves forward in 2024 and beyond.
Man, I HATE that it's come to this. I want him here long-term. This is a guy you want to see as a career Chiefs. But he's just gotta pull his head from his ass.

The unknown all lies with what Chris is thinking. Is he prepared to play in Chicago and be on a shitty team just for the money? I know that to any player that doesn't mean a damn thing and it's all about the money. So they could be floating that out there to see if that's the direction he wants this thing to head or not. Who knows if it's beyond the point of no repair etc. I respect and love him as Chief as much as anyone. But he has a choice to make
But yeah, as to your question If it gets to that point or is there I would have no problem taking that deal. Dexter is like 32.5 arm length and that will effect him playing 3. Doesn't mean he can't play some there. I see it as Arik Armstead at nose when Buckner was still there. But i would have to goal to find another 6-4 to 6-6 type DT with the long arm length starting in next year's draft or potential trade targets if they are actually available.
That's the thing about the Jones, Seymour, those numerous types don't come along often. But in Dexter they would have a piece to work with that they could hopefully teach to swat passes at the very least beings he's 6-6. Then it opens up cap space to say not worry about guaranteeing Shelton's contract with the possibility of him not playing all season. The week one roster rule for vet contracts. Or add Ioannidis. Or Wormley later. And/or Dunlop or Robert Quinn or whoever. They would have the cap room to add when needed with the veterans out there.
With or w/o CJ95 that DT group is getting rebuilt. I obviously hope it's with him. If they have to rebuild on the run they have the right DL coach and getting Dexter interesting. You would hope the D as a whole could come together. Not ideal timing that's for sure
