Gervon Dexter and a 1st in 2024?

We're getting to the point where I think we'd have to make that deal. I'd hate it, but Dexter's a 2nd rounder and the 1st is effectively worth a 2nd.

So a pair of 2nds for Jones? Eh, it's a hair light, but man, think of what that $20 million in rollover does for the cap situation next season. And Dexter might be able to contribute this season. Wormley won't be ready until October at the earliest but maybe Ioannidis can help out quickly. Hicks might have some gas left in the tank.

I dunno - there are ways to mitigate the damage for 2023 and ways to really catapult ourselves forward in 2024 and beyond.

Man, I HATE that it's come to this. I want him here long-term. This is a guy you want to see as a career Chiefs. But he's just gotta pull his head from his ass.

Works for me!

Nick Bosa at his age has a lot more value than Chris Jones and all indications are that they’re still in actual negotiations.

Somehow the Chiefs are just going to trade with the Bears who forgot to call the 49ers and offer the same thing for a better player? Tooth fairy visiting later?

Felix or George, they pick

Chiefs get:
Bosa
Dexter

Bears get:
Jones

Unfortunately for Jones Irsay has already floated the new protocol going forward if players want to play the hold in card. NFI list and do it again next year. And no, it actually is in his best interest to play his best ball if he's aiming for 30 plus per. He might not even get that right now, much less after a down year.

It's already gotten to the point the sides are a bit angry at each other. Oh well. He still comes in week 1 and balls out if he actually has a brain. He can hold out until midseason or dog it if he's dumb, but even that does much more long term damage to himself than to the Chiefs.

Right. It's just not realistic unfortunately.

I wonder what effect the Omenihu suspension has on a potential trade? Does the suspension make the CJ camp think they have that much more leverage? Or does BV think CJ is DEFINITELY not a team player so screw you, I'll take a guy who many called CJ-like, and take a chance on a 2nd (and maybe a 4th or a 2025 3rd?)? I would be just SICK if we ever have to play a road playoff game...

On the flip side, the Omenihu suspension could make it all the more critical that we get SOMEONE in here.

If you have Omenihu, you can be patient with Jones and hope he comes to his senses. If you don't, you might just have to dump him to keep yourself in solid shape over the first 6 weeks of the season.

It would surprise me at all if this is yet another example of Katz (whoever the **** he is) just not playing his cards well.

The unknown all lies with what Chris is thinking. Is he prepared to play in Chicago and be on a shitty team just for the money? I know that to any player that doesn't mean a damn thing and it's all about the money. So they could be floating that out there to see if that's the direction he wants this thing to head or not. Who knows if it's beyond the point of no repair etc. I respect and love him as Chief as much as anyone. But he has a choice to make

But yeah, as to your question If it gets to that point or is there I would have no problem taking that deal. Dexter is like 32.5 arm length and that will effect him playing 3. Doesn't mean he can't play some there. I see it as Arik Armstead at nose when Buckner was still there. But i would have to goal to find another 6-4 to 6-6 type DT with the long arm length starting in next year's draft or potential trade targets if they are actually available.

That's the thing about the Jones, Seymour, those numerous types don't come along often. But in Dexter they would have a piece to work with that they could hopefully teach to swat passes at the very least beings he's 6-6. Then it opens up cap space to say not worry about guaranteeing Shelton's contract with the possibility of him not playing all season. The week one roster rule for vet contracts. Or add Ioannidis. Or Wormley later. And/or Dunlop or Robert Quinn or whoever. They would have the cap room to add when needed with the veterans out there.

With or w/o CJ95 that DT group is getting rebuilt. I obviously hope it's with him. If they have to rebuild on the run they have the right DL coach and getting Dexter interesting. You would hope the D as a whole could come together. Not ideal timing that's for sure

booger 08-25-2023 06:31 PM

possibly Zacch Pickens instead of Dexter

Arrowhead Pride has a great article breaking down just about every question that you could have about the implications for Jones holding out. For example, his 2024 cap number is decreased by $1.3M for every game that he holds out. The article is way too long to post, and Arrowhead Pride isn't behind a pay wall. So, I'm just going to post the link. If one of you think that it needs to be posted, go ahead.

Also, the article says that if he were to report week 8, the tag next year would be about $24M. He has no leverage. He's only hurting himself by holding out. If his agent hasn't explained this to him, he needs a new agent.

I love it. I hope ge does holdout until game 8 so save us some money. We do not need him until the end of the season anyway and it also helps ensure he doesnt get injured. Absolutely perfect situation for the Chiefs to be in. His agent must be the dumbest person alive.

Being out of football for 9-10 months and trying to ramp it up in the playoff race and during the playoffs is a good way of ensuring he DOES get hurt.

That's why I'm pretty sure the 8 game thing was a troll. Makes no sense for him on any level.

Well on 1 level it does. If he's holding out while demanding a trade. But there would be limited in season buyers at his price range so yeah, back to it not making any sense.

Put the pipe down, and slowly back away.

If you believe that SF is trading the DPOY for a 1, 2, and a scrub d lineman, it's time for you to permanently log off CP, and get back to your piece of trash Madden videogame, and make your reality defying trades until your mom tells you it's time to go night night.
