so this cop buddy comes home. tells me a story. this guy tried to commit suicide by blowing off his head with a shotgun. sounds reasonable. put it under his head and pulled the trigger. problem was that he didn't have the angle right, and he basically blew his face off the front of his skull. hes in there, kicking and trying to scream, but cant. so the cops arrive, then paramedics, this takes 15-20 minutes. guys still thrashing around, gurgling. so the strap him to a board, try shoving a tube in the hole that was his face, sort of just his throat - hes still got a chunk of dangley thing. they get him to the hospital, where they stabilize him. sort of. anyway he was alive for days. guess the moral of the story here is make sure you're actually going to die, you REALLY don't want to **** this one up.

But glittering prizes and endless compromises, shatter the illusion of integrity. Yeah.

I'm not very good on the guitar but I can play Tom Sawyer, Limelight, Closer to the Heart, Dreamline, Red Barchetta, Freewill, The Trees, and Fly by Night. I just learned Closer to the Heart on the drums. I'm a total Rush dork. They're the sole reason I've learned to play musical instruments. That's not to say that learning to play other stuff, like T00L isn't awesome, but Rush was the inspiration entirely.

That's more than I can play on the guitar. I can play good enough to do the rhythm stuff of my own writing and then grab someone and say "play a solo on this part". And then say "No, I'm thinking more like this". And then try to hum the part while trying not to sound like a cat screeching in the alleyway.

I started playing drums real early, age 10. Just basic stuff in school. Then I got a drum set when I was 12 and started playing along to records and cassettes( you had to use the massive 70's headphones to isolate the sound ). I learned all the basic 4/4 stuff then I started playing along to Led Zeppelin, then Rush, then I started getting heavy in to Jazz and Funk.
It kinda just kept going and going until one night I found myself on stage at CBGB's in NYC and said "Hey, this turned out pretty ****in' cool"!

Rush still sucks, Floppy.

I'll say this much for Rush:

Having been to several concerts in the audio-nightmare that IS Kemper Arena, Rush was the only rock band I ever heard there that had their shit together in terms of being loud AND clear; no earplugs required.

Iron Maiden, by contrast, could peel the ****ing paint off of the walls at the rodeo ring next door.

Man, I've seen 3 people in my life that have done this. I am either really lucky or unlucky to have seen this because it cant happen all that often. I am only 24.
