Not worried. Lynch will either pan out or he won't. That's the chance you take when drafting a QB in the first round. I love his upside. He'll be fine.

First round picks are not supposed to be "chances".

Every pick is a "chances" pick. The first round is hardly a success predictor. the chiefs should know this best.

From 2010 to 2014 only 1 team had an above 80 percent success rate on rounds 1-3 combined, and that team was Dallas (who won nothing during that period). (61 percent is the average)

Denver - 53 percent
KC - 59 percent

Yeah, one of the other QBs he drafted won 9 games, is starting again and while he was a 7th round pick, definitely shouldn't count. Maybe he's just better later in the draft, I dunno.

It's been reported that Semen was Kubiak's guy.

I guess we should all praise the great Elway for that hidden gem though.

Mile High Mania 08-22-2017 01:33 PM

And, I think there are people around here that believe Denver gave up a ton to move up for Lynch...

They sent a 3rd rounder (94th) to move from 31 to 26. Not exactly mortgaging the future there. They dropped 1 pick in R3 to move up 5 spots.

What's to own? I haven't applauded him for the selections... and so far, it hasn't truly cost them anything too terribly detrimental to the team.

They moved up 5 spots and you expect people to act like he trade multiple firsts that would really have set them back. But, they didn't and it hasn't. If Trevor hadn't wound up being a decent option, sure there would be a lot more fury. Maybe they got lucky with him being better than advertised prior to the draft.

Hell, Brock was a late 2nd rounder in 2012. They would have loved for him to have been the guy, but he chose to head off to Houston. Maybe that saved Elway from really looking bad.

So, in 5 drafts... they used a 1st, 2nd and 3rd on the QBotF and so far it's a 7th rounder holding down the position. You're right, there should be so much more outrage coming off a 9 win season.

Meanwhile, KC spent a 1st and a 3rd to move up 17 spots for PH... they'll wait a year and hope that in 2019, they don't look silly having spent so much to move up. I think it was a solid move to make, quite honestly.

Is that what holding down the position is? Winning the job by default because the first round pick is even worse? I guess that you could say that Bryan Hoyer is holding down the position for the 49ers too.

By the way. I agree with you that giving up a 3rd to move up for Pixton was no big deal. Elfraud would've just picked another bust in the 3rd too.

And there are many, many more that could. And handily, my son.

KnowMo, I'm here to help.

What you need over at the ol' Incestco is some quality stability with a proven, winning record.
Yep, ol' Uncle Sweets has your best interests at heart, and he has a once-in-a-lifetime BARGAIN for you this offseason!
I have an absolute STEAL of a QB just waiting for you.
A REAL WINNER!
In fact, all this QB DOES is win!

And KnowMo, after this years' pitiful 6 to 8 win season in Donkeyland, your hero John Elway is going to need ALL THE WINNING HE CAN GET.

I encourage you to spend this season getting to know the many folks who were involved in the 'Save Our Chiefs'-movement. Introduce yourself and seek advice, get contacts, and take notes! I want you to get those Donkey banners flying high, and let Mr. Elway and that other guy who can't remember his own name anymore know that come 2018....

IT'S SHITTY SMITTY TIME FOR DONKEY BOYS AND GIRLS!

KnowMo, I promise you:

All you will do...

...is win.

:)

RealSNR 08-22-2017 07:17 PM

I think that is where you're twisted up... Trevor didn't play terrible in 2016. Trevor wasn't asked to limit his attempts to 20 a game while they ran wild and rested on the defense. Was he consistently spectacular and without issues? Certainly not.

Sure, they wanted their #1 pick to win the gig... it just didn't happen. Trevor played better, it's not like they both sucked and they flipped a coin. Lynch never had the job, never won it. Trevor won it last year and retained it.

Now, we'll see if he's going to prove his doubters wrong.

staylor26 08-22-2017 08:22 PM

The thing about Semen's stats is I watched the other team drop easy INT's repeatedly during the first half of the year or so. It was an anomaly. He could've easily finished with 18 TD's 15 INT's. He wasn't much different from Brock in his first year starting IMO.

Also, who gives a **** what he's done in the preseason? The entire local media was saying that both QB's were stinking it up in camp. He didn't take the job, he just sucked less.

I'm just not buying this former 7th rounder that wasn't even really good in college ever being anything more than he is, a fringe starter, and most likely a career backup long term. There's a reason everybody including you guys wanted Lynch to win the job. Stop pretending that this is a good thing and you really believe Semen could be the long term solution.

notorious 08-22-2017 08:24 PM

Yeah, there were a ton of dropped picks when Denver was pulling games out.

Mile High, I have a question. Is the new head coach going to change the entire offensive philosophy from Kubiak/Shannahans style of counters and bootlegs? Paxton is kind of built for that, and if the new guy wants to play a different style that might be a reason he is struggling.

McCoy runs the offense, I'm sure there are things he runs by VJ or implements based on feedback. But, it's McCoy's scheme with Musgrave helping the QBs. They certanly did all they could to put coaches and a system in place to make Lynch a viable option. Lynch failed... Trevor, by all accounts, wasn't necessarily expected to be the guy to win the job with all this happening.

So, did he win it... did Lynch lose it? I think it's both. Lynch failed to win the job and Trevor did nothing to lose it, he played well. Did he light the world on fire? No... it's preseason.

McCoy is a good OC, we'll see how the changes in his offense are accepted and what the results are soon enough.

Pasta Little Brioni 08-23-2017 09:23 AM

Baited to move up a full 5 spots, losing a R3 pick. It has crushed this franchise for at least a decade. Hell, if anything it helped Denver - Elway would have bombed that R3 pick and there would be 2 spare players on the roster. Amirite? :D

Bolles, imo, has fatigue issues, coupled with a weaker left arm that leaves him vulnerable inside on that side.

Dorsey could identify offensive talent but he screwed this cap up.

Denver in 2018 will have 316k in dead money and they’ll have 23m in cap space. If they cut demaryius thomas they save another 7m. They are definitely going to go after a big time QB. Get used to Kirk Cousins.

Chiefs have 12 and a half million in dead money and currently projected next season to have negative 1m in cap space and people still go "Why did the Chiefs fire John Dorsey???"

Duuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuude. Can you imagine head coaches seeing that shit? "Hey, let's draft this dipshit frat-tard"! "Yeah, that'd be GREAT"!

And of course Elway takes him. LMAO

You missed the best part:

Elway moved up in the draft to pick before we do because he heard we were interested in taking him. So Elway wasted a first and a third to get this doofus.

What if he rumors were true? What if we had taken him? We'd have Lynch. We wouldn't have Mahomes.

Thank you dearly, John Elway.

And that was my first time seeing that video. Wow. Horrifying. So much worse than the Derek Carr jean jacket video which is pretty bad itself.

They weren’t.

Peter King was inside the Cowboys war room and said we called seeing if they wanted to trade up (for Lynch if he made it to our pick).

Reid would’ve never signed off on an idiot like Lynch.

Probably thought Reid had done all of his homework for him and he'd just slide on up and take "our pick".
