Dallas Cowboys
Dallas, who ranked third in sacks and eighth in passing defense last season, drafted defensive tackle Mazi Smith with the No. 26 overall pick this year. Smith is a big man capable of plugging up the middle. Jones is a different type of player, and a Cowboys team still seeking to recapture its glory is always a threat to make a splash move. In recent years, that has been with big-name players leaving the organization more often than joining it. But the Cowboys are one of the few remaining proven playoff teams with cap space left. They are one of few teams that would not need to send another player out to remain under the salary cap if they acquired Jones. |
Chicago Bears
This one would not be based on need – the Bears added three rookies in the 2023 draft to a pair of veterans on the interior of their defensive line this offseason. But none of their players are on the same level as Jones, and the Bears had the worst defense in the league last season. They ranked 31st against the run and recorded the fewest sacks with just 20, or 4.5 more than Jones had on his own. Much of their lack of pressure came from an absence of a legitimate pass-rushing threat which they added in Yannick Ngakoue. Still, the Bears have the ninth-most cap space even after a spending spree this offseason, and their general manager, Ryan Poles, came up in the Chiefs organization. |
Green Bay Packers
This is a similar situation to the Bears. But Packer general manager Brian Gutekunst has preferred to move on from talent rather than expend draft capital to acquire some during his tenure. The Packers traded Davante Adams in March of 2022 and have been preparing to be without Rodgers since the 2020 offseason when they drafted Jordan Love in the first round. The Packers had the fifth-fewest sacks and fielded the seventh-worth run defense. Adding Jones alongside Kenny Clark may seem like overkill. But it would make things a lot easier for Love and the offense to have a defense that will wreak havoc on opposing offensive lines. Green Bay has the 12th-most cap space remaining and would have to send a player or several out the door to remain under the cap but the payoff could be huge. |
Remember before Mahomes how something like this would have ruined our year and we’d have to be depressed for the next 12 months because we knew that the entire season was a waste of ****ing time?
I do. God I love Mahomes. |

Not paying Houston. Tony G’s trade. Jared Allen. Jamaal’s injuries. Bowe being fat. Glenn Dorsey / Tyson Jackson / Ryan Simms Neil Smith leaving. DT’s accident. Jon Baldwin midnight jogging video. A year with no WR TD’s. Jones might hold out? Damn that sucks. Oh well, Mahomes. |

I wish that the Chiefs would do something to shore up the interior of the line now that it appears that Jones will carry his holdout into the season. Like maybe signing Suh. That would help a lot. I know that the cap is tight, but there are restructures available. About $5M could be freed up by converting Justin Reids salary to signing bonus. And the bank of Mahomes is also an option. They did it once this year for about $10M. But there's still another $20M available if they want it. Plus, every week that Jones sits out will free up $1.1M. That money can help sign someone later or carry over to next year.

...And it all turned to dust the moment Berry's achilles snapped. The D never recovered that year. |
The bank of Mahomes is only open before a certain date. They can’t do anything with it now

You, who pounded the table for OBJ's "elite" services saying he was deserving the huge contract he wanted. You, who pounded the table for making Chris Jones the highest paid defensive player in football. You, who still faps to this turd even after he's shown that he AND his agent are either functioning in an ongoing diabetic coma, or are clinically ****ing braindead. This moron is actually saying he can afford to sit until week 8, losing money he cannot possibly recoup, giving his teammates the finger, and doing his best Honey Vadger impersonation on Twitter. Jones is a regular season hero that only twice has reached double digit sacks, and went nearly a season worth of playoff games before beating some scrubs for a couple sacks to get the monkey off his back. Jones is wanting to be paid for what he has done. Unfortunately, that's not how this works. You're paid based on what you're expected to do. 30million a year, that's double digit sacks every year and destroying quarterbacks in postseason. On top of it, the guy is threatening to not honor the deal he signed, a deal that Mahomes took less money for him to get in the first place, so **** Chris Jones, and his rabid spankbank groupies just like you. He will end up looking worse than Tryeek Hill, worse than OBJ, and it's gonna be ****ing hilarious if he follows through on this dumbass holdout to week 8 threat. Jones better hire a thug with a pipe to shatter Mahomes' knee, because an injury to Mahomes is the only shot in hell he has of not being proven a window licking reerun sitting out until week 8. Send this ****face to the Raiders so we can beat his ass twice a year and he can finish his career with multiple straight losing seasons. |
