But we're tip-toeing closer to it with "Hey, do we really want to pay for a guy with one playoff sack? He's only been great during contract years..."

I don't think we're tiptoeing to that, I think people are just stating some facts. I personally don't care when those seasons were, just that he only had 2 of them. I do find it intriguing that they happened when they did, but he's still a great player in non contract years so I don't think it's lack of effort. We can't compare CJ95 to the most elite players like Aaron Donald because he only has 2 seasons of his career with double digit sack totals, while other guys are doing it consistently (and the positional advantage of him being on the interior is limited when 41% of his snaps are Over the Tackle or Outside of the Tackle, basically operating as an EDGE)

He's been among the best defensive players this franchise has ever had and one of the very VERY few who can say that they were instrumental in a championship.

Define Best. Because in my opinion, if you lined up all of our defensive players ever, I can already think of a number of guys on top of my head I think are greater at their positions respectfully than CJ95 respectively (DT, Curley Culp, Emmitt Thomas, Bobby Bell, Buck Buchanan, Willie Lanier, Johny Robinson, Neil Smith, Deron Cherry, Albert Lewis). That's 10 without me looking at rosters, and I'm sure there are plenty I'm forgetting that upon seeing a name I would think were greater defensive players at their respective position.
In terms of winning a championship, I can't really put that on those greats, as we all know, there were many other issues than those players that led to no ring.

The guy's a no question, first year of eligibility, Ring of Honor player.

This isn't a thing. You're always eligible for the ring of honor once you're gone. They just tend to do one guy a year. He's a fan favorite, sure he'll end up in there. Kimble Anders is in there. Dante Hall is in it next year. It's more for fan favorites. This really doesn't mean much.
I'm not trying to be disrespectful by any means, just more that I think a lot of people here falsely equate him as HoF caliber, of which i would disagree.
