Just chimed in on the 'great 10PM Thread'. was listening to the Stones.... feathers ruffled when they dissed....understandable with generational differences.... I have seen alot of great bands in the last 35 years. Stones being at the top of the list for performance. Pink Floyd Led Zeppelin Beatles/McCartney Eagles Bob Segar Fleetwood Mac CSNY Dylan Marshall Tucker Springsteen Poco Skynyrd Police Black Crowes to name top ones off the top of my head.... I won't ask you to say if you have seen them to compare them to anything in the last 30 years now...... Trust me....The Stones shows were incredible. Unforgettable. They may now be a shadow of what they were 30 years ago but... they are still going putting on good shows. How many bands now will be able to say that in 20-30 years.???? Likely Rock will have morphed into something else..... |

but they all worked out in the end. If you know what I mean. Strong memories of show and Serious Pu$$y. The prices now make me wonder if they truely AREN'T a real rip off. Seams $/value may have really diminished. Thought the ''97 Stones" show was great but for $ vs. the '75 show? I haven't factored the inflation.......Indoor dome / outdoor great summer day. Most shows attended had great sound (LP comparable). Never had really bad seats even the (now outlawed) Festival seating ones. |
Ok, I have to be up to work out in 5 1/2 hours. Catch you phags later.

The Beatles continue to outperform them just as when they were both competitors. Pink Floyd hasn't had their shit together since Waters left-but outsell the Stones. The Who were more original and had far better muscianship. They were the real rebels of that era. Even with the Altamont Speedway stabbing-The Who out Rock n Rolled the Stones in anti social behavior. The Stones basically copied every band- especially the Animals and Yardbirds. They have always been about image and been masters at manipulating the media- the London media still gets a boner over Mick. If you look at the whole Stones collection-they are good for one, maybe two good songs per disc. Just enough to be able to tour and charge their loyal fans $375 a ticket to hear the same tired songs. With all that being said- they do have some classics in there. They deserve their props for managing to keep the machine rolling despite, drugs, shocking deaths of band members, alcohol, old age, bad publicity (Mick and David Bowie sex scandal) , divorces, inner fighting between Keith and Mick, arrest, changing musical fades, ect, ect..... To say that they suck is just silly, they might not be everyone's cup of English tea, but they are still rolling til the bitter end and deserve to be acknowledged for being influential and for being living Rock Legends. It's Only Rock and Roll-but I like it! |

Just the whole idea of checking my Pee-Pee for some substance that I may have used in my Free time that does not effect my Job Performance. It also sucks that i have to take someone elses pee in there with me since mine is "Tainted" |

My work implemented a random drug testing program. Four times a year they randomly take 5 percent of the employed up to do a saliva test swab. No warning, just take you up and you are doing it right there with some others. Then they send them off to the lab. I don't agree with it. But what can you do. Im clean anyway. |
It's amazing how Long Island Iced Teas can make you forget about the world.

It looks like I missed a legitimate conversation last night.

But do you guys miss ME when I'm not around? :)

I felt it necessary to get some sleep considering I had two midterms today. I might as well add my $.02 about last night's discussion; better late than never. Led Zeppelin is far and away my favorite rock band of all-time. I also like Pink Floyd. I've never liked the Stones, and their act today makes it worse.
|
I got recalled today and put in about 14 hours.... I don't think I'll be around too long tonight - I have PT in the morning.

The old wheel chair Stones dudes to the most younger generation That didn't grow up with them or ever see them live...Got it done for 40+ years. The cross generation appeal is hard to expain at the show. Let me know when another band out last/played them. Music History will be the ultimate judge...... LZ great band seem them in Chicago and Page/Plant in STL.... But not a candle to the intensity level of a Stones show. You have to experience it to understand. Pink Floyd great show.... very Psychedelic....overall intensity not there or same as a Stones show.... Closet thing I've seen. Black Crowes ++very good. Small FOX theatre in STL. Loud/intense.....not quite the same but close, without the cross generation appeal. Eric Clapton twice. 85 very good with Ry Cooder at Keil in STL /97 Orchestra show at Scot Trade Center. Never with Cream damn it. That would have rivaled it I'm sure. |

I'll attempt to put up a pic from the last time I went to Wyoming skiing. |
I loved seeing the Black Crowes when they opened for Tom Petty. They're a good opener, but not a good headliner. I love the live CD they did with Jimmy Page.

Yep at Floyd they relied on effects and younger musicians to play their songs-they should have retired years ago.
Funny how I never liked the Stones-but they just grow on you. I would definately go see them! People need to give them their props-they still take it on the road for every CD-a lot of bands don't even put out music anymore but cash in. Someone posted an Eagles pic-they were all sitting in chairs-how boring-they would put me to sleep. Kinda like the last Leonard Skinard-(sp) show-they came out and sat down in chairs and went acoustic-took the crowd out of it-then a 40 minute Freebird song-next to Bon Jovi-worst show ever. |

You Have to like a Blues based rock band....first. Because the Stones are that. They whip up a crowd it takes a few tunes. (not like they dont' have any) '75, '81 , '97 different music generations and venues. But always kids, parents, grandparents at the show. Unbelievable. Floyd in '87 Momentary Lapse of Reason. Gilmour leading show. Good but not great. Eagles '75 Festival seating at DesMoines Ia. St. Fairgrounds.I'm in the infield 50 Ft from stage on the dirt. Great all day festival. Dan Fogelberg, Ozark Mtn. Daredevils, Pablo Cruise, (NO SHOW) Commander Cody.....would have liked to see him. 2nd Eagles Very good show. 78 Cominsky park Chicago. Climax Blues Band (very good opening act) with Joe Walsh hand just joined. So James Gang tunes too. Back aways but great show all around. Closing easy to Diss the Stones if you have never seen them. And now The cost is thru the ROOF.....unfortunately. True for most old rockers. |

I will have to see them- hearing you talk about the show has sold me. Like I said I like them more every day. Rush covered paint it black at the Sars festival-what a great tune. Sympathy for the Devil has to be a top ten tune of all time.
