Hmm, we have no books that are useful but there ARE about 40 copies of the North Korean Human Rights Act of 2004.

Think the library is run by a bunch of lefties?

They may have declined from what they were in 1970s.

It will be tough to name a band even in 20 years that has done for Rock'nRoll what the Stones have done.....

It really doesn't matter what the state of R'n'R is now IT'S ALL BEEN DONE BEFORE. Bands now are trying to carve a tich some how.

LMAO

So how does Jagger's c**k taste?

The Stones never did anything original either. Difference was you guys were all so high you couldn't tell that they sucked. Those huge damn lips sure were trippy, though.

Real Simple.... Simpleton (i.e. Simplex)

Poney up a band that has done more for R 'n R in 40 years.
Still better yet I'll give you 40 years to do it.

So, let's examine "influential" rock bands vs. some schlubs who capitalized off a stoned audience and turned that into over-charging to aging hippies trying to recapture their lost glory...

In no particular order:

1. The Beatles. You may have heard of them.
2. Jimi Hendrix. Kind of a slacker, though.
3. The Who. Did a show or two, they were supposedly Ok.
4. The Ramones.
5. Nirvana. Did the Stones spawn an entire genre? I can't remember.
6. The Doors. Who was their lead singer again?
7. U2. I hate them, but they seem to be financially viable.
8. The Grateful Dead. 20 years ain't got s**t on them.
9. Metallica. Hell, they made a bunch of money and have been around 20 years.
10. The Eagles.

You're right, though. The Stones are the best band EVAH!!!!11!

Simpleton real simple Get A Clue.

Let's talk to some folks that have one....YOU DONT HAVE ONE.

You got nothing in the top 10. Let alone 20.
Rock 'n Roll has been around long the most bands you claim are good.

History is and will continue to prove it. Get over it. accept it and move on.

Simple... the sh1tty a$$ band that have been appearing for the last
20 years got nothing on the bands before them.

Chuck Berry, James Brown, Bob Dylan, Buddy Holly, Ray Charles, Led Zepplin, Stevie Wonder, Fats Domino, The Velvet Underground, Bo Diddley, Black Sabbath, Queen, The Kinks, Prince, The Supremes, George Clinton & The P-Funk, R.E.M., Smokey Robinson, The Temptations, Iron Maiden, Deep Purple, Bob Marley, Zappa, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Jefferson Airplane, Alice Cooper, Skynyrd (uck), Alice in Chains...

ROFL

1. Keep using "Simpleton". That one is so fresh and witty that it really stings.

2. You've managed name ONE band. You also have proven your stupidity by ignoring the fact that over half the bands in that list are pre-Drones or from the same era, still harping on the "bands for the last 20 years SUCK" mantra.

This is what I'm talking about. The only argument that can be made for "The Stones are the best band EVAH!!!" is if it's purely a monetary argument, however even then I think if you adjusted for inflation there are several bands that would have made as much if not more.

Add to that bands like The Greatful Dead who barely charged and allowed their live shows to be recorded and shared (bittorrent was built specifically for their shows) and I think the argument is thin at best.

There simply isn't a genre spawned by the Stones and they haven't bridged generational gaps like U2 and some others. I'm not that impressed.

KISS (ugh), Elton John, Fleetwood Mac, CCR, Moody Blues, Radiohead.

Hell, freaking Aerosmith is as high on the list as the Stones IMO.

AC/DC, Boston, Cream...

Van-Freaking-Halen even spawned a genre.

I'll give you....good bands in this list.

Chuck Berry (can't drive worth a F).
Dylan - great song writer.
Buddy Holly - died one hit wonder at this point
Ray Charles - Certainly a HOFer.
LZ - Great R'nR band Blues based like Stones.
Domino - another 1 hit wonder
VU - overall under impressed
Kinks - Great band (Stones level?)
Prince-Great guitar ... staying power?
Supremes - Good girl group. Motown hot.
George Clinton - WTF Disco phenom.
Temptations - Good motown sound. But the overall numbers?
REM - give me break....on the Stones level?
Smokey- good singer more Motown
FZ - Very out there progressive sound.
Peppers - ? In 20 years Who the F were they?
Airplane - Will cash in on 60s too. overall?
Alice - Very good. Way ahead of his time.
Lynyrd Skynyrd - Progressive SR. outside Allman Bros. (not mentioned).
Alice in Chains - You can't be serious? Give Me a Break. Not even close to the Stones.

Maybe a generational thing....but let RnR history decide. these guys are not in the same league.

Oh, and Nine Inch Nails. I'm not a fan but he's done some truly unique stuff and brought a sub-genre out.

Another lie.
Stones have inspired more than one band, and been inspired by many.

I have a very broad definition of rock. I'm just unimpressed with what has been brought forth in the last 20 years.

Screaming vocals. Remixes of old songs (got a new one? worth a F)

Haven't seen any that will go down in the RnR greats. To be remembered in 20-50 years.

Nirvana seems to be the only thing that surfaces....

Any real serious playing continuous repeatable sound that inspires?

80s Bad hair band rock.

90s?

Alot of Rap in last X years. What's that done for music. Expose / promote Bitches and Ho's. Please that isn't original. Its No talent a$$ clowns.

Industrial-Metal died with grunge, and sometimes melded with techno, but it left no true heirs.

Reznor was an innovator - Manson/Zombie are the next hacks attempting to cash in on the Alice Cooper madness/style...

So your problem is that you don't acknowledge anything prior to the Stones and don't like anything newer? No offense, but your personal preferences do not make a band influential or great.

Hehe. I'm making a Pandora station out of all the bands I've listed and it rules. I'm leaving the Drooling Moans off, though.

Oh, and Nine Inch Nails. I'm not a fan but he's done some truly unique stuff and brought a sub-genre out.

Hell, while I'm at it, Rob Zombie.

Along those lines, Tool has done allright for themselves.
