Scrubbed for a guidance system issue. Should be around the same time tomorrow.
|
The Falcon 9 launch is now set for 8:07 p.m. The launch window runs until 8:35 p.m.

We're going to spend the 4th doing a full review of rocket & pad systems. Launch no earlier than 5th/6th. I think Elon's concerned about a rocket that has self-aborted at T-10 seconds twice in a row. Don't blame him. Anyway, I'll update the OP for the 5th, but don't count on it actually happening then. |
Third time's a charm?

First time I remember seeing such a clear view all the way to MECO. That was cool.
|
Made me pretty nervous that they basically said "Eh, that sensor? It's no big deal. We'll just tweak the limit so that it doesn't trip again this time." Seems to have been fine though.

Pretty shot, but it looks naked. The eastern range is on a break for a bit, so we'll be in a lull for launches for a while. See you guys in a month or so! |
The break is over! Let's get back to work.

Pretty cool that SpaceX, a private company, is way better at this stuff than all of North Korea.

Day-before bump.

Webcast should be live in ~20ish.

Also hosted on NASA TV, live now...

The SpaceX webcast is usually 1080p, while the NASA is 720p. I'll probably have both during launch. Nice to have some "pre-game" commentary before SpaceX starts their webcast though.
|
SpaceX live now.
|
And there she goes!
|
Too easy.
|
Well done yet again. Gotta love boring launches. :D
|
NASA just started a launch replay.
Fantastic launch. Again! |
Updated the OP for the next launch in 10 days. This one's kind of a weird one. It's the lightest thing they've lifted in a long time (475kg) due to 1) this originally being planned for a Falcon 1 and 2)a ride-share partner bailing out. Not sure if that'll change anything, but they'll certainly have plenty of extra fuel to do some experimenting if they want it!
|
This was one of the prettier days for a launch they've had lately.

That's a great shot!

Thought this comparison of CRS-10 and CRS-12 was very cool.

For those of us who dont know anything, anyone want to give a quick recap of today? Looks like it went well. What was it for, or was it just a test?
Cool that Bulgaria's thing went well, but still don't really understand the full significance of it... |

This image was leaked a year ago. It was thought to just be a preliminary idea, but it's clear that it was pretty damn close!

Suit definitely looks better than previous pressure suits like the Shuttle astronauts wore...
https://images.duckduckgo.com/iu/?u=...886920.jpg&f=1 ...and a crap ton better than the Boeing suits (seriously ugly)... http://www.boeing.com/resources/boei...e_suit_630.jpg Worth keeping in mind that SpaceX actually hired someone from Hollywood to make sure that style wasn't completely ignored. I think they actually look pretty good. http://www.ibtimes.co.uk/iron-man-ca...onauts-1558406 |

Webcast is live.
|
This is such a ridiculous launch. Satellite deploy is ~30 seconds after the first stage lands. I kind of wish we had a shot of how small that little satellite is inside the fairing.
|
Yeah, I'm still surprised they couldn't find something else to throw in there.
|
Even for a SpaceX junkie like me, these are starting to get a little boring. Glad everything went great, though. Look at the little guy go! :)

Next up: space plane!
http://i.imgur.com/H5OvsTD.jpg Time hasn't been announced yet, so I just put it in as a noon launch in the OP for now. |
This went from "can we" to "pretty routine" in an amazingly, stunningly, awesomely, wonderfully short period of time. I'm sure each mission has people working tirelessly and endlessly, but they sure have made it look routine.
I'd rep them if they were on CP. |

Just a heads up that the next launch is still on schedule. However, it seems like they're being even more secretive than usual about this one. We don't even have a time for the launch.
In theory, it'll still be webcast as usual sometime Thursday morning, but who knows at this point? I'll post more if I hear more. |

EDIT: This one is RTLS, so at least they won't have a barge out in the middle of the ocean in a Cat 5 hurricane. They're gonna have to get it down after landing in a real hurry, though. |
I love that these are almost becoming routine. Of course, that's usually when something goes boom. Let's hope not.
|
Finally got a time. 9:50am EST tomorrow morning, though even that's not technically official. They're definitely being secretive about this thing.
Weather's pretty iffy, and if there's a scrub, it's almost certainly going to delay things a week or more due to Irma. EDIT: Now it's apparently 9:50am (not 9:20 as I originally posted). Damn secretive missions. It's a 5-hour window, though, so they may try and wait for the right opening in the weather to get it off. |

the sad thing about space travel is we're boxing ourselves in to not being able to go to space anymore. We need to do something about the debris that is just floating around out there.

Should get an interesting look at Irma.
|
Beautiful launch against that backdrop of Irma cumulus clouds.
|
And lands through a cloud.
|
Woot. Now they have to get that stage down and in the hangar in a hurry!
|
That was the smoothest mission we've seen. Up, down, done.

Thank you guys for keeping this updated, I wouldn't have a clue about any of this. I do not follow the program, but they seem to be much more advanced and aggressive than NASA ever was.
|
Looking around on the interwebs, we're probably in for a break of around 3 weeks. I'll put the Iridium launch on 10/4 in the OP, but there's a chance that SES-11 will happen first. Time will tell.
|
Pretty cool shot from today's activities.
