I’m not a huge small batch fan of theirs though. For cocktails yes but not neat. |

I've gotten a few good buys from it. Waiting for some Pappy's to come across the airways though. I'll run it by some of you guys when I get the emails. If any interest I can get it to you. |

Some others to try if you'd like for $30 and under: Evan Williams Single Barrel Elijah Craig Eagle Rare Henry McKenna Russel's Reserve Larceny I think Maker's is over-rated. Knob Creek is decent. Theme is drink what you like though! |

I never know which one to pick. I leave it up to my Kentucky friend.

Pour one for the homies.
Sounds like the other half of the rickhouse in Kentucky collapsed today. :crybaby: |
They didn't move everything out after the first collapse?

I'm wondering if they'll be able to salvage some and create a "survivor" blend we can all over pay for. |
53 fish died dammit

Right place, right time today. I really enjoyed the Weller Special Reserve I found in KC, so I'm looking forward to trying this over the weekend.

Went to a bar last weekend discovered they had Blantons. Not only that but the bartender was my old neighbor. I drank it for free all damn night. I was pretty blown away honestly. Best stuff I've ever had.

It’s good. Not $100 good though. Hope you didn’t pay that. |

EDIT: Plus 11% sales tax |

Going $100 secondary here which is just plain reeruned. Nice work! |

OWA is my favorite and unheard of on the shelves here. What’s your cost? Also I love you. |

Weller Special Reserve
Old Weller Antique |
Quote:
Weller SR - Weller Special Reserve - the cheapest and shortest aged Weller wheated bourbon at 90 proof. OWA - Old Weller Antique - aged 7 years and coming in at 107 proof. |
I bought a bottle of the KC Reiger's Whiskey. It's pricey ($36 a bottle) but it's good.

Picking up a bottle of whistle pig 12 year old rye. One of my favorites.
|
My friend Gary likes Maker's Mark and Buffalo Trace. Makers is a little too strong for my tastes.

Hadn’t been paying attention and didn’t realize Weller stuff is now impossible to find including the cheap stuff.

For those that like rye Pendleton 1910 is a pretty awesome value
|
Rieger
Sons of Erin Makers. |
What is a good bourbon to start with?
|
For relatively inexpensive...either Four Roses or Elijah Craig small batch are a good intro. Maker's is not bad either.

Drink that bottle and get used to the taste. Try it neat and then with ice. Huge difference. My favorite is angles envy but I am currently doing Elijah Craig which I like.https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...2624216149.jpg Sent from my moto x4 using Tapatalk |
Trying to find something not too expensive in the $30 range that can actually be somewhat readily bought a i stop drinking on my hard to find stuff so much. Went to the store tonight and picked up some Russels 10 yr.
Tried Basil Hayedens in this price range last time and it was fine. |

They didn't have any of those bottles y'all mentioned, though. lol The guy knew all about them, just said they don't carry them. |
Got a job and moving the Louisville in two weeks, I may need to hop on this train.
|
Buffalo trace is everywhere here
I am a woodford snob so I’ll recommend starting g there |
Had a dental school buddy send me a bakers dozen Cuban cigars so I sparked one up with a glass of Glenmorangie nectar d”or.
After the shit show that was today it’s a nice evening |
Looks like Weller 12 dropped in KC today. When I get back in town, I will get to looking around a bit.

It’s cheap ass whiskey but I swear by Jesse James bourbon if you’re looking for a mixed drink whiskey.

I will have to check the local draconian liquor stores. Damn state stores are barren. Thanks man. |
I like Baker's Bourbon. Though, I like to drink Negroni, nowadays.

While watching preseason I've been dipping into a bottle of Russel's Reserve 10 yr I bought last night and it's pretty solid for $30 price point and can actually find it.

When it comes to bourbon, start with Evan Williams white label. If you like it, move on from there. |
Having some Jefferson's "Very Small Batch" tonight.
They buy other bourbons and blend them. For $24 its pretty solid. |
Blantons continues to be my favorite and benchmark for non cask strength. I’m rationing the hell out of what I have and wondering if anyone has a suggestion for a substitute that you can actually buy?
|
Quote:
No thanks at that price. You want it and I can get it for you though. Have an Arizona Barrel pick for $75 I can likely find too. Let me know. |
Quote:
Smooth isn’t a characteristic I care about. To me that’s a fairly boring bourbon. I want a little fire and complexity on the finish. |
