Imagine if someone had told you before the season started that "the defense will collapse without Jaylen Watson."

Imagine it.

That is mind boggling. Sometimes, it really does seem like this team is just using the regular season as a 17 week preseason. Just tinkering around with shit for the sake of doing so.

I really can't think of a more obvious example of that than Johnson at CB2.

I mean they were CLEARLY just hoping he'd improve. He really hasn't. At least not enough.

So they're giving Williams enough time to get himself back up to speed. It was around this time last year that Cook got hurt and we had to shuffle some things around a bit (I think Watson got dinged as well) and he started playing more.

Then he was REALLY good in the post-season.

This really does feel like they were just dicking around. It's so very, very strange.

Imagine if anyone told any of us back in August that:

Kareem Hunt leads the team in rushing
Juju had the most receiving yards in a game this season
Noah Gray has twice as many TD’s as Kelce
Mahomes has not once been talked about as a candidate to win MVP
An undrafted RB with an alligator as a pet would start multiple games and lead pro bowl voting for a FB

This just reinforces my feelings that for Spags cover corners are more valuable than pass rushers. I love the conversion about the 2 positions but Spags has made it work so well with only 1 elite rusher and average at best guys surrounding him.

I think they need to get another true versatile cover corner in the 1st rd if Tackle is truly not an option.

Pass rushers are valuable but I think cover corners are of bigger value. Look at that happened when we lost Watson? Hell the Broncos have the best pass rushers with an elite DL and just one vulnerable corner absolutely wrecked that defense.

If you can do that and still win, why not?

I guess if Johnson plays less the rest of the regular season, then he also picked up some valuable experience throughout the year too. He could be useful in a pinch if someone goes down for a series.

Mahomes was front runner to win the MVP most of the season until the Buffalo game.

if you told me that watson was gonna get hurt mid year i would have def been worried considering he was our replacement for Sneed. when you have two good corners one of them going down is predictably gonna really hurt. what i would have been surprised about is being 27th or whatever in sacks

...and we'd still be 11-1.
