So trade down for an extra day 3 pick in a draft that blows instead of using a day 2 pick to move up for a sliding player that Veach may have a first round grade on.

Why. Veach has typically done his best work being aggressive and moving up for players, not falling back and letting the board come to him.

Also, folks are sleeping on that fifth year option something fierce. McDuffie is sub 13 million and Karlaftis is sub 15 million with an extra year of control. Both guys that probably clear 25 million on the open market, especially with how scarce it's become.

None of that is worth sacrificing for an extra 4th.

There are a LOT of assumptions there. Moving up FOR players implies that there are individuals clearly worth going up to get. Otherwise, if you're just doing it to be aggressive, you get Breeland Speaks.

The only thing I know for sure is that I don't have any idea what Veach is going to do, but in hindsight it will make perfect sense.

I haven't been right in advance yet.

Well, you're just full of exaggerations and assumptions, aren't ya?

No it isn't. McDuffie, Rice, and Worthy. The best players out of the last 3 drafts. All players Veach went up to get. Moore, FAU, and Suamataia. All to this point worthless scrubs that Veach settled on.

JFC we're calling Suamataia a "worthless scrub" because he wasn't a starting LT as a 21 year old rookie?

I agree with your overall point, but no need for the ridiculous hyperbole to make it.

To this point he has been. Season ultimately ended in large part because he sucked so bad and they spent the rest of the season scrambling at LT before settling on Thuney. Hell, they've thrown their hands up and moved him to the interior OL already.

You mean they've inserted him as their starting LG? Hardly "worthless", but sure!

Sassy Squatch 03-30-2025 09:55 AM

Like they inserted him as their starting LT?

They traded up for Suamataia. And Wanya Morris. And Hunter Nourzad. And Darian Kinnard.

Every draft is different. Talent is not evenly spread, nor does it fit perfectly into a bell curve. Draft charts assume a perfect bell curve in every draft. Therefore, some draft situations will call for trading up, while others will call for trading down. The value of the 5th year option is not a secret to any GM and will be included in any analysis of a draft trade. The merits of a trade-up or trade-down are not automatic.

I don't want to give up multiple picks for Conerly.

No shit. Veach isn't that dumb. We have multiple needs. Ones that will hurt us if we give up picks to move up. In this draft, staying in our pick is the wise choice. We can fill a huge need with a DT starter there.

Agreed. If he falls, that’s a nice pick at 31 given he’ll need a redshirt rookie season as his play strength needs to improve. And, like Kingsley, he’s only 21 years old. But giving up multiple picks wouldn’t look amazing given Conerly is still a few years away.

Don't whine about how bad our OT play is for a 6th straight year if the Chiefs don't go up and take one. Remember, ya'll would rather sit tight so you don't miss out on a situational role player.
