And it won't be either. Those types of beers are quite polarizing for the average beer drinker.

Which is great. I've been able to buy at least 4 bombers of BBQ, Love Child, Saison Brett, and Imperial Stout here.

I'm not mad at them, I am embarrassed that I pulled the "I know you recognize me" line though.

Had a Chocolate Ale at lunch... a couple of people who don't drink nearly as much stout as I do thought it was weak, and I thought the same. I never use 'mouth feel' when talking about beer like beeradvocate reviewers, but when taking a drink, it really did seem to have potential with the smell and 'mouth feel', but overall I didn't think there was much to it, even for an ale and especially considering the hype and reviews with mentions of cocoa puffs and chocolate milk.

Had some Sam Adams Gold Snap and Im not a fan. Tastes like Vanilla. Gross. I just need to stick to Founders now that they ship down here.

Stood in line today for the delivery of chocolate ale. Got one bottle. Amazing the demand for this stuff even out here in rural MO. Gonna save it for when one of our friends who is a choco freak can share it.

Had a Hopslam today. It's great, but I couldn't tell you why it's worth the effort people put into getting it.

Pulled a bottle of Vertical Epic 11 and 12 out. Like 12 better as I think there's molasses in it. Then sampled a 50/50 blend that's significantly better than either on own.

Impressed, further research says no molasses added, guessing the notes come from the dark candi sugar.

Had the Mother's Spring Batch Farmhouse. And I really liked it. Not as complex especially on the back end as some of the best of the style I've tried, but the actual taste is awesome.

I bought a sixer last night. I didn't hate it but I won't buy it again.

The guy that ran the beer cooler at the Spec's (high end liquor store by me) didn't really know much about the special release Smoke Stacks. I just keep pressing him to get them as they came out. Fortunately he got some of the BBQ, and loved it so he orders as much as he can get his hands on. And to keep his ability to get them going, he encourages me to purchase as much as possible.

Where are you at, Native?

Next time you're in AK, drop by the Glacier BrewHouse for an IPA or one of the pilot beers on tap.

There is no difference, because stout is a style and ale is a term denoting a beer brewed with top-fermenting yeast.

I drank HopSlam on-tap from three different bars earlier in the week, and it was just average. Pissed me off. This year's HopSlam doesn't taste anything like the HopSlam I've enjoyed over the past six years. It was missing the tropical fruit notes, instead favoring a straightforward grapefruit pith flavor. They must have changed the hop bill pretty significantly. Either that or the Tuscaloosa distributor for Bell's really screwed something up with storing the beer.
