Great play, LBJ. |
Watching the Nuggets right now and I can’t fathom Jokic not winning another MVP this year

Yeah - Lakers gacked the shit out of that.
And James was the primary culprit. Lost his man on defense, made a really bad, lazy inbounds on offense. Give him all the credit in the world for the put-back a couple days ago, but he pretty much has to wear that yack job. He's gotta be better down the stretch there. |

Boomers say NBA SUCKS!
First half of Elite 8 game Tenn vs Houston and Tennessee only scored 15 points at half time. Tenn is 1-15 from 3FG and 21% from 2FG. Just amazing basketball they have in college! Way better than the NBA! |

Can we start a petition to do away with the play in game bullshit. Why would anyone want to see an extra game featuring sub 500 teams. It's bad enough that there will be teams with losing records in the top 8.
|
Thunder have won 17 of their last 18 games.
Take this in. What you are witnessing is historical excellence. A marvel for the ages. If they beat Houston in Houston they arent even losing again. 70-12 is on the table. The greatest team of all-time. |

That said -- compare Bronny to any other 2nd rounder. Compare him to anyone taken anywhere near him. He MIGHT get 1st round consideration in a re-draft right now. Not early, obviously, but 25-30 range. Because he's shown improvement this year and has, at times, dominated the G-League. That's the PEAK of any reasonable expectations you'd put on a mid-late 2nd rounder. The pick has worked out well for LA. Now the hoopla around it is ridiculous, but ultimately the odds of James contributing more at the NBA level than anyone taken in the 2nd (certainly anyone available to LA) are pretty damn good. Nepotism or no, he's earned his keep in the G-League and most players who have runs like he has had at that level WILL get a cup of coffee here and there in the NBA. It isn't worth talking about at this point. Water found its level. |

Maybe I am just old but in my day the MVP goes to the best player on the best team except for maybe the Westbrook one. It isnt even in question at this point. Jokic could put up 50 in the rest of the games all season. Its. Over. |

It just defends so damn well. SGA's scoring gets the headlines but what really sets the Thunder apart is how good and how deep that defense is. If they have an off shooting night they're probably still going to put up 100 points and they'll likely end up holding you to 88. They just don't have a way they HAVE to win. Those Durant teams had to score to win. A lot of other championship caliber teams have needed to lean on defense. OKC just does everything at such a high level. And have a LOT of guys that can do it. And a shitload of draft capital and no bad contracts and a slew of young players. They're a massive problem for the next 3-5 years at least. So yeah - we can cling to the idea that they'll just collapse in the playoffs, but in the NBA that doesn't usually happen. Most of the time, the best teams at least make the conference finals and in the end the NBA has the most 'representative' champions, IMO. I'd still take the field over OKC because the West is really hard and the Celtics represent an interesting matchup for them. If the Thunder have to fight to get through the West and find Boston waiting for them on the other side, that may just be asking too much. But I'm closer to betting against the field than I've been on an NBA team in a long time. They're ****ing good. And for the next couple years at least they're only gonna get better. |
We will see, I would love to be proven wrong.

That said -- I absolutely hate his style of play and hope beyond hope that the NBA starts swallowing whistles in the playoffs. I still remember the league setting basketball back a decade in that series where they just put Wade on the line every time he drove the ball against Dallas. In the final two games of that series the guy drew 46 FT attempts in two games they won by a combined 4 points. To say nothing of the 18 he drew in a game they won by 2. In one series the guy had 3 games where he had 18 or more FT attempts. In his entire playoff career outside of those three games he managed to do that twice. And we're gonna pretend like that was a legit title. The league doesn't benefit from a series where this guy's going to the line 13+ times to the line every game... |

He actually doesn't get called for as many fouls as he should because they just get tired of his fearless relentless stamina. Michael Jordan FTA a game 8.2. SGA FTA a game 7.0. Do you hate Jordan? |
Sounds like he’s getting a lot of breathers to keep that stamina up by being a free throw merchant
|
Quote:
And the league was allowing guys to literally attack Jordan in order to defend him. The Jordan Rules were centered on just beating the shit out of the guy. Those ain't the sorts of fouls they're calling with SGA. Your argument is stupid here and you know it. |
I don’t know who the comp is for SGA historically but it certainly isn’t MJ. They play nothing alike.
He’s like a mix of Wade and Ginobili. |

Now back to talking about the perceived Western conference championship matchup (OKC/LA). |
That was a hell of a road win for the Warriors.

But the Lakers bench played about as poorly as I've ever seen a bench play and really Luka's shot was off all night. Doesn't seem replicable. |

Warriors have a top rated defense and that probably played a bigger role versus LA bench being off. But both teams scored a 100+. Warriors being tested again against Denver and they look like a very capable/determined team since the Butler trade. |
