Bowen is going to get one of the last two. It'll probably be K State

LOL No it wont.

Braincase 11-18-2014 07:43 AM

Two games left, and the question seems to be "Has Bowen done enough to earn the job fulltime?".

I think he has, and there are several intangibles. Being a hometown guy is a pretty big deal. Few coaches are looking at Kansas as a destination, in fact I'd guess most are looking at Kansas as a place to get a 5 year contract, work for 3 and get a nice buyout. Bowen looks at Kansas as being the top of the mountain. He brings more enthusiasm and belief in Kansas football than anybody else on the coaching radar.

Today, I'd give him the keys, but the reality is a real search needs to be performed. I do think the Harbaugh situation warrants further investigation, but even if he were to come to Kansas, it would be for 3 or 4 years tops til he went back to the league. He'd build a little, but mostly be a caretaker, and then it would be Bowen's job anyway.

Mr. Plow 11-18-2014 08:10 AM

Personally, I'd go with Bowen regardless. Really, after the last 2 head coaches I don't see the issue in giving the job to a hometown guy with seemingly a lot of passion for KU Football. We could - and have - done a lot worse.

Prison Bitch 11-18-2014 08:27 AM

Talked with my pal the other day, as you know he said Weis was in process of getting fired and Bowen was going to get that "trial run". He told me yesterday Zenger and the admin already talked to Bowens lawyer and want to hire him. The "chuck neinas search committee" is a ruse to placate 2 big donors who don't want to hire Bowen.

Nice. Don't want to piss off the big donors too much, but he seems like a good fit for KU.

Saul Good 11-18-2014 08:46 AM

He deserves the job...not just because of the improved performance on the field, but because of how it came about.

It took stones for him to change QBs and play-calling duties the way he did. Those were big gambles, and it's got to be hard to demote a friend. A lot of interim coaches wouldn't have made those moves.

He seems to have a much better handle on the program today than Weis ever did. With Charlie, I always got the impression that he felt he was above the job and that he was doing the Jayhawks a favor by going slumming.

If he can keep this up, they can finish ahead of Iowa State and Tech for sure next year and possibly above Oklahoma State and Baylor. It certainly seems like they hit rock bottom under Weis (probably his pile of crap presser) and have begun to rebound.

Harbaugh was in fact discussed Saturday. I was told about it today.

The ballpark/initial chats: worth 5 with bonuses to go over 7 per. Private money ready.

No one has any idea on interest level.

Edited to attribute the source. I thought I keyed that in. Sorry PB.

I think you need to also factor in the fact that if you don't hire Bowen do you run the risk of losing him. Could he be so upset that he takes a job elsewhere to continue his career in coaching.

I don't think he's qualified to get a HC job anywhere else but I would be very hesitant about hiring someone else when in fact he is that lifer that KU has been looking for.

Who, what and where is that quote attributable to? You type that in a way that sounds like I wrote it which obv is not true so where's the quote from?

Bowen has shown me enough to seriously consider him as HC. Hopefully, we see the same thing that we've seen the past 2 weeks these next 2 weeks.

Meh, many team forums have those kinds of posters. Hell, we have had plenty of those here on CP over the years. I'm sure your favorite KSU forums have those, as well. Take them with a grain of salt.

Oh. Like I say about my own info: take all with a grain of salt. My mole is almost impeccable though and my posts here have been spot on:

Weis in process of being fired
Bowen to get trial run (not Reagan like the KU boards assumed)
Frankamp left and wants to go West to CU, ASU etc (visiting CU now)

If and when he passes along wrong info ill own it. But it rarely happens

Bowen doesn't strike me as a guy who would get pissed and leave. I base that on almost nothing, admittedly, but the way he handled the play calling situation gives me the impression that he's all about what's best for the team and unconcerned by politics. Whether that's a good thing or a bad thing in the long run remains to be seen, but it's certainly an admirable trait. It kind of sucks that politics are almost as important as coaching anymore, but that's big money athletics.

Eerily similar. Mizzou led that one 42-6 until FLA got a garbage time score. Oklahoma won 44-7. That's an apt comparison.
