Even though in the real world if you started a new job, and you performed well for the first 5 and a half months, but then continually did worse, only to majorly **** up something at the end of the year that cost your company big time, we all know how that turns out. Mainly with you carrying a cardboard box of your belongings and being escorted out by security.

That's a simple fact for anyone else who works for someone in 99% of the cases.

Come to think about it. After all the bullshit changes of OCs under Haley/Romeo. Hunt is more than likely wanting to see two years of Sutton.

Charlie Weiss was "fired"/quit/left/whatever after 1 season

don't tell me it can't be done.

Can't be done? Sure. Won't be done? A given.

While I think there are better DC's out there than Sutton, I'm really not sure that he is the main issue here.

Look, this defense has been broken for the better part of 13 years. Sure, we've had a couple of decent years during that time, but never a consistent, top 5-10 Defense.

Based on Pro football reference (points allowed):
2000: 19th
2001: 23rd
2002: 28th
2003: 19th
2004: 29th
2005: 16th
2006: 11th
2007: 14th
2008: 29th
2009: 29th
2010: 11th
2011: 12th
2012: 25th
2013: 5th

Obviously the 2013 numbers are skewed by the early season start. But my goodness, this is unacceptable. We haven't been good on defense since the Marty days. And you know what we had in those days? Tough, physical, in your face guys, and on-field leaders. Hasty, Collins, DT, Smith, etc.

This defense has lacked those physical, in your face guys. And I've been saying this for years, but there is a serious leadership void out there on defense. And by that I mean someone who is going to get into the face of all the other defenders, hold them accountable, and get them to raise their game. Who does that for us? Berry? Nope. DJ? Nope. Flowers? Nope. Hali? Nope. Poe? Nope. We have some talented guys for sure, but they're all mostly just guys who go out there and try to perform. They're not vocal, on field leaders. You have to have some guys out there where when things are slipping like they did in that game, are going to pull guys together, demand that they get their head out of their arse, and go hold the fort.

Blowing a lead like that, and basically not making Luck work for any of it, just speaks to the continued lack of nastiness and leadership on the field for that defense. It is a continuing theme from year to year. IMO until that is addressed, we will continue to be a weak minded defense when faced with a challenge...

We can improve talent, especially on defense.

But speed and tackling in the secondary still isn't going to stop the inability to defend pick plays and crossing routes. It's not going to slow down QBs from releasing the ball in 2.2 seconds after the snap. It's still going to allow ****sticks like Case Keenum and Jeff Tuel to put up 400-yard passing games on us.

That's a huge problem, and that's not talent. That's SCHEME.

We need a new coordinator. Desperately.

Clark get rid of him.

With the new Obamacare guidelines you can't just be changing your staff because they blow one measly playoff game.

Jimmya 01-06-2014 02:14 PM

Obama care reference....very nice

Throughout the season many different players expressed how much they liked the guy. We just need to learn from this game and move forward and I think they will.

When we went to Denver we got our ass kicked early and the game was to big for us. We didn't weather the storm.

When we went to Indy we learned from that mistake and hit on all cylinders from the get go.

All this team needs is experience and they have shown they can learn from it. This team will not lose like that in the playoffs again. I guarantee it.

BlackBob returns, part 6.

What will he disclose next?

JohnnyHammersticks 01-06-2014 02:30 PM

Hopefully Reid fires the little voice in his head that was telling him that it was a good idea to keep passing the ball when YOU HAVE A TEAM DOWN BY 28 POINTS IN THE 2ND HALF ON THE ****ING ROAD!!!

That's the bastard I want to see fired.

The Franchise 01-06-2014 02:31 PM

Sutton and Reid better ****ing find some players that can play both in the 3-4 and a nickle/dime defense. Our DEs are great at stopping the run but can't rush the passer for shit. All teams had to do was spread out the defense and force us to play dime.

Easy 6 01-06-2014 02:49 PM

Yup, and end who can get to the passer is a stone cold MUST HAVE, look at the impact Aldon Smith had for the Niners last night.

Run stuffing is great, until teams start passing 5 of every 6 plays.

Absolutely, Justin too... I was remiss in forgetting him.

I think the difference is we wanted Weiss to stay so he left and we want Sutton to leave so he'll stay.

We as fans don't get what we want, the Hunts treat us like Vernon Schillinger treated Tobias Beecher on OZ.
