That's a perfect example of compounding a mistake. Gonzalez is your long man in the pen. Matheny needs to bring in a lefty to get out of that inning. He has plenty of time to get either Choate or Freeman warm, but he stays with Marco. Consequently, he doesn't want to pull his long man after seven pitches, so he gives up an out when we only have 14 left just so he can keep said pitcher in the game.
