MVS has almost 600 yards and is averaging almost 18 per reception.

He’s been a solid #3 option.

ChiefsFan63 12-11-2022 08:48 AM

My issue with MVS is not his production, it is his drops. 6 drops and 33 receptions. Not a good ratio. Kelce has 6 drops on 77 receptions.

We knew that was an issue when we signed him though.

Yeah, MVS has been fine, although the drops are irritating-but then, that's what he's always been.

As WR3/option#4 he's been fine.

He needs to be able to do a lot more than just a few gadget type plays. He needs to be a serious weapon, and that has to be on display sometime in the next 4 weeks, to put the fear of God in their DCs minds. Lot of things can only really be worked on in a game.

Exactly. Just like the catch he made against Jacksonville at the 10 or so yard line, when he high pointed the ball, made the catch in traffic, and came down with both feet in bounds. It set up a TD couple plays later.

Kelce is 1) a HOFer, 2) averages 5 less yards per catch and 3) undoubtedly has shorter targets.

MVS is catching longer, tougher passes.

He's dropping easy passes period.

9 million may seem like a lot vs let's say Kelce's salary but it really is reasonable for a veteran receiver of MVS quality in today's market. Most recently signed receivers in that price range are not performing as well as MVS.

If you want a more talented receiver like Tampa Bay got with Antonio Brown a few years ago at a lower cost, you either have to put up with a great deal of injury risk and/or the risk he will do something really stupid off/on the field.

It's a huge leap between MVS and AB, imo. i wasn't thinking that.

A step or two below AB? Or, a step or two above MVS in terms of catch rate? That would be nice, and not nearly as expensive.

Really hoping he was going to play this weekend but sounds like unless he has a setback he will return next week.

Dunerdr 12-11-2022 12:05 PM

I’d attempt to replace MVS in the off-season just because of the frustration. He’s all around pretty good, but the drops, god damn man.

His speed opens up the middle of the field for Kelce though. He has value.

But yeah he’s been pretty bad in the red zone IMO

Toney's value to the team is going to be his availability. Can he take the field (even in a #4 WR role) in 15 of the 17 games and be ready for the playoffs? If the answer is yes, then he's worth the effort. TBH, we don't know how serious the injury was before we got him. It may be fine after this rest.

As far as MVS goes, yes, he does drop some easy ones, but at least 2 of his have been in contested situations. He opens the field for other receivers and he will block. Seriously, when was the last time you saw Hardman knock anyone down?

So you know who else is at the top of the dropped passes list?

Greg Davis
Stefon Diggs
Austin Eckler
Tyler Higbee
Travis Kelce
MVS
Jaylen Waddle

All tied with 6 drops on the season - I think the drops are a tad over blown.

MVS way too much money for a #3 guy.

It's not just the number of drops, it's the degree of difficulty, or lack thereof, of so many of them. If he drops a few deep passes over-the-shoulder/whatever passes, okay fine. But 10 yarders that hit him in the hands right in front of him are harder to understand.
