to make it more apples to apples, Pat would have to play a season without Travis, not Tyreek.

this is absolutely true, and the biggest reason why everyone saying we need a superstar receiver is missing the big picture.

We don't 'need' a superstar WR. We need a solid possession vet WR, imo. I've consistently said this, but my words get twisted around every time. But I consistently said that we need/should get a Adam Thielen type, or a Corey Davis, more recently. Basically a better version of JJSS.

Anyway, we need a guy like that to force the defense to make some decisions about how they're going to defend us.

Midway through 2022, JJSS basically became invisible because defenses began paying a lot more man/press vs. KC, and JJSS couldn't beat his DBs. Neither could Skyy or anyone else for that matter. It became something of an issue until Andy started scheming plays for McKinnon more.

But that's a band aid, not a long-term solution.

But the tweet never calls Tyreek his #1. That's a strawman.

I think we can safely infer that, considering the first part of the tweet. The tweeter is being obtuse, in order to make his point.

Andy didn't really 'scheme' up Mckinnon, he's usually the outlet pass, and that's been there for YEARS. Pat just started taking it more often rather than forcing the downfield play.

It's not a scheme change. Occasionally there would be something drawn up, but mostly it was just the outlet pass.

Eh, there were more screens installed, McKinnon actually began running WR routes, like that skinny post vs. HOU (I think it was HOU).

Regardless at this point, JJSS stopped being as effective as he was in the first half of the season, and McKinnon became the consistent option instead.

And we know this is true, because JJSS' projection at about the 8 week mark was to exceed 1,200 yards and 4-5 TDs, but he went from averaging about 60 yds/gm to about 30.

And McKinnon wasn't on pace for 512 yards receiving/10 TDs through about the same number of weeks. His production increased about when JJSS decreased. And we didn't see a big jump in anyone else's numbers. McKinnon effectively was schemed to replace JJSS lack of production.

Okay well, the stats and the timeline seem to imply that. Obviously, I don't know exactly what Andy's real thoughts were.

Again, I think it's reasonable to figure the knee was a problem. But there's no reason to think McKinnon won't still be a useful weapon.

Oh, I think McKinnon will still be effective. I just don't think we should reasonably expect him to post the same or greater numbers, that's all. Looking at his career numbers receiving, it's reasonable to expect a small drop overall, closer to his career average, that's all.

That said, we're probably going to need some other player to make some kind of jump to make that up.

Well, yeah. Of course. Why wouldn't we?

I doubt he'd have as large a drop-off as what happened with Rodgers, but Pat also has other advantages that Rodgers didn't have last season. Like Andy. And youth.

Really solid argument for our unwillingness to pay any other weapon more than Travis.

Well, except for the fact that Travis is 34 this year. Might want to replace that production in the near future. Before he actually declines. Just a thought.

They are trying. In the last two years theyve drafted two 2nd round receivers and traded for a former 1st rounder. Veach could give up 3 future 1st rounders for Marvin Harrison Jr next year and some ppl would still claim we arent doing enough to address receiver.

not counting Mecole in the second.

If one of those guys was DK Metcalf, Terry MacLaurin, or Tee Higgins, this isn't a conversation. If you want to critique the FO's ability to scout WR talent after round one, then fine. But the efforts have been made, and the results have been two Lombardi trophies.

duncan_idaho 05-24-2023 07:38 AM

Moore didn’t really get big snap counts in the part of the season we’re talking about, save for the Chargers game, where he had multiple big catches on third down, including one where he made Derwin James look foolish.

He definitely had more chops vs man than done so far, but I think he can/will develop better feel for that.

I think Rice complements him well in that regard. He shows a good feel for working vs zone in his highlights, and Keysor’s film review showed that, too, if I recall correctly.

If your top 3 pass catchers feature one guy who is great against zone and man, one guy who has a good feel in zone, and one guy who can win vs man consistently, I think you’re in pretty fantastic shape.

3rd team. With the Giants crew?

Good chance it is a "coaching thing" by Daboll whom I'm still 50/50 on him being a ****ing twat.

Nonetheless. That's not what I would expect.

Kiimo 06-17-2023 11:25 PM

I owe it to the thread after being duped by Hyatt ballwashers to post all Hyatt negative material.

I still picked him up in dynasty because he does have tools long term especially with Kafka and Daboll maximizing Danny Nickles

JPH83 06-17-2023 11:32 PM

Didn't like Hyatt at all and I was completely perplexed at how people projected him given how he was used in college. His 40 time then really confirmed for me why he shouldn't have been our pick

The Giants gave up on Toney, and paid a mid (mid at best) QB Top Tier Money.

This means nothing

Boxer_Chief 06-18-2023 09:17 AM

It would be great to finally hit big in the second round at wr as many other teams have. If he can be our Davante Adams sign me up now.

Of course you don't think this means anything. It doesn't support your narrative.

Well his 40 time like Rashee Rice's 40 time are suspect as hell.

Hyatt has take the top off speed but it will take time to deprogram that gimmicky Tennessee offense. I expect nothing this season

Also I think whoever said that he's MVS and we already have MVS was a little more right than I cared to admit.

Rice has a completely different skillset

I'm hopeful that turns out to be a huge mistake for them.

But if he's on the inactive list more than the field, that remains to be seen...

It is weird though how the more seemingly talented a WR is, the tougher their road is to getting on the field for the Giants. Respect that Daboll doesn't care about your draft or free agent capital, but damn. And then seeing Daniel Jones get that big extension. Have to wonder a bit about their evaluations.

The only issue Toney had getting on the field was injury.

I don't get this narrative at all.

No it wasn’t. Toney maintained he was healthy and could play for awhile last season before he was traded and we plugged him right in. They also benched their extremely expensive FA Golloday who had played well in Detroit. Now hearing Jalin Hyatt is already getting shit on. It adds up to some level of WTF.

BryanBusby 06-18-2023 01:23 PM

Not sure why people are surprised he's running with 3's

Dude has no idea how to run NFL routes and has been with an NFL team for a whopping 1 month.

Brody Wa 06-18-2023 03:14 PM

I completely agree with you. We wouldn’t have won the Super Bowl last year if we lost Kelce instead of T Hill.

Agree totally re Tennessee. As for his time, yeah it's odd. He looked like grease lightning but I could also see the argument he was a long speed guy more than an acceleration freak. I could see the appeal of the speed but honestly not much else had my excited

JohnnyHammersticks 06-19-2023 09:06 AM

There were a handful of us who tried to tell people throughout the draft process that Hyatt was very overrated. It was pretty easy to see.

No matter how good of a camp he has, Reid ain’t sting a rookie WR full time. Maybe half the snaps.

ChiefsFanatic 07-25-2023 09:42 PM

So, I didn't look to see if it has been mentioned, but Jordan Addison got a ticket going 140 mph in a 55, because he said his dog had a medical emergency.

At least he wasn't drunk. Maybe the NFL should require rookies to hire professional drivers.

If the dog is a chihuahua or pomeranian then it should be at least a 6 game suspension

It's weird how Skyy Moore got a ton of hate at this point last year. The Rice train is full steam ahead.

I think skyy was seen as another undersized receiver that will struggle to contribute, and may not have the size and tools to make it as a number 1 or even 2 receiver.

Rice is a more traditional build receiver who could potentially be a true number one, and all the training camp reports seem to be very positive.

I think its mostly Rices jump ball style and game translates to training camp highlights. But i hope he is as ready as it seems.

We signed Dez Bryant!

Yeah, very convenient to be driving a Lamborghini after 3am when your dog is having an emergency and you can go 85mph above the speed limit.

All I know is a ton of people on social media doubt this guy and say he doesn't separate, but then Peyton Manning was on Twitter and said something like he's a quarterback's best friend and he would rather have him than any other receiver in the draft or something along those lines it may not have been quite that extreme but was very complimentary.

EDIT: It looks like this Tweet is actually fake, so he didn't say it but he probably meant to say it so it's close enough.

Here you go, sweetie:

HOF QB Peyton Manning had high praise for Chiefs receiver Rashee Rice.

“He’s the perfect receiver. He has speed, hands, incredible route running, can find the soft spot in zone. He’s the type of player that’s a QB’s best friend.”

By the end of the season he'll be a more dangerous player for us than JJSS was for us by the end of last season.

There's just not a single thing JJSS did that Rice is incapable of doing. All it will take is the football savvy and scheme retention to get it done. I absolutely believe he will.

Rice is going to be legit. Not a homerun hitter but a very strong, steady player. I think he can eventually give us what the diminished version of Watkins was able to give us. Good physical play over the middle and strong YAC production, especially on designed quick-hitters in space.

I'm not posting this because I wanted Hyatt.

Yeah. A couple things surprised me when juju got on the field.

1. He’s slow as ****. Seemed like I’m misremembering or he was way faster at Pitt.

2. I couldn’t believe how incredibly wide the hell open he was. Reid schemed him some good ass plays.

Rice learns the playbook and sees the field, he’s going to be much better than Juju. Juju had a little more girth and could do some TE type things, but Rice -provided he can do the mental side - is going to be a lot better.

There are some bad separation comments in that tweet.

Think he's significantly more shifty than Juju too. Much, much higher YAC potential

Y'all that were pining for Deandre Hopkins-here he is, at 23.

I told you so.

TBD

But I’m encouraged with him and Ross. I’ve always liked Sky and Toney.

I still think Aiyuk is the best comparison.

of course it's to TBD, but it's August, and the time for dreams.

However-it sure looks like, at this point in time, that Veach has done his magician act again. It LOOKS like we might have four young studs in that WR room.

One who can't stay healthy, but whatever, we'll be fine.

I mean, a big part of the YAC is seeing the field, which is mental. It's unwise to handwave the mental part of the game, but agreed.

And there is absolutely nothing wrong with that comparison.

Brandon Aiyuk in this offense would be a silent assassin.

And Justyn Ross is more your Hopkins type.

Not a dig and I may be getting you mixed up with someone else, but I thought you weren't that high on Ross Detoxing?

What are your thoughts at this point? Genuine question, because if you're excited, I'm excited.

saphojunkie 08-02-2023 12:16 AM

Justyn Ross is AJ green only better and probably got a letter to Hogwarts too

Ross is more in the mold of Tee Higgins, I think.

I wasn't. I wasn't down on him either, I don't want that to get confused either.

But I had some pretty big questions. And while I didnt think he was actually a 4.68 speed guy, I did figure he'd be a mid 4.5's guy. So I'm curious to see how he looks this preseason.

His vertical test was awful. Yet on film he never had a problem elevating.

My stance was always this: His freshman year was overhyped, his final year left a lot to be desired, his testing was awful. But he did have that foot issue, so wait and see. He's got Hopkins ish hands and good size.

I'm excited to see. Because him and Rice outside coUlf be monstrous if it all goes our way

New World Order 08-02-2023 10:58 AM

I see a mix of Terrell Owens, Randy Moss, Jerry Rice and Derrick Alexander in this guy.

I'm really hopeful the kid turns into at least one of the comps we've seen put forward in this thread (and others). It's still way too early to say he's going to even see any playing time in real games. I really hope he does and that he dominates.

A hint of Josh Gordon as well

Kiimo 08-02-2023 12:15 PM

Every time people talk about his testing numbers I expect to see some slow ass, unathletic guy who can't get separation and gets lucky catching contested passes.

but then I look at Ross on the field blowing by dudes, getting wide open and looking athletic as hell. I refuse to hear about his testing. Trust your eyes.

Are you talking about Rice or Ross? I'm confused.
