Well deserved after the final few calls at Tech on Saturday. That’s the benefit of playing at AFH.

smithandrew051 01-11-2022 10:01 PM

Good win. Any win against the top half of the conference is a good win this year.

Bearcat 01-11-2022 10:02 PM

That was fun.

TambaBerry 01-11-2022 10:46 PM

All the talk is about the goal tending when ISU plays like West Virginia. Grabbing, body checks, just overall physical defense.

Al Czervik 01-11-2022 10:55 PM

The officials were shit. The female had several bad calls. That mostly benefited the clones.

ISU was flopping and flailing all over the place. Disgusting basketball really that shouldn't be rewarded.

The female official was really bad in this game.

And it had nothing to do with her gender. If a male official made those calls, it would have been just as bad.

The offense isn't nearly as strong without Martin. Whether he's scoring or not.

I'd like to see Self fun with Martin/Agbaji/JCL/Braun/McCormack. You'd have a legit scoring option at every position. Rotate the 5 situationally. And even though Harris was a hero last night, I'd like to see his minutes cut.

Not to pick only on Amy, but Gerry Pollard has sucked for decades as a ref.

McCormack isn't good on offense and seems to be in the process of being relegated to a permanent bench player.

Understatement. He's never been great, but he has been pretty awful the last 5+ years.

Yeah, they missed that one. When I saw that live my first thought was that looked like a goal tend. The replay just confirmed it. Officials are human. Sometimes they miss calls. ISU got a couple of BS charging calls in their favor, IMO. So, these things don't usually just go in one direction.

Lzen 01-12-2022 10:58 AM

What's with the lineup changes? And then you get KJ starting but he only gets 5 minutes and then you don't see him again until later in the 2nd half. WTF? I realize part of it is due to injuries but man, oh man, Bill is like a mad scientist with the lineup changes and substitutions/rotations.

Self said in the postgame that it was a reward to KJ for being intense in practice. On top of that it seems he still wants to send a message to McCormack.

He is cutting the rotation, Yesufu didn't see the court.

Very sad that he needs to send a message to a senior with 70+ career starts

He's shown the ability before. That's more than any of the other 5s can say. If this team is going to go on a deep run, they're probably going to need McCormack to play decent minutes and be at his best. I don't think a 6'7 freshman is going to cut it.

I agree that we need a big body underneath, but for as big & strong as McCormack appears to be, he's so soft. He's just ok on the defensive side of the ball, he's not a good rebounder nor is he really a good scorer. I just don't see what puts him into the game.

I don't remember the play exactly from last night, but he got a really good entry pass right at the basket. All he had to do was go up strong and dunk it and take the foul he knew as coming. Instead, he moved to the other side of the basket, tried to put the ball off the glass, got fouled and missed the shot.

I'd take a 6'7" freshman that will play with some fire over what he brings to the table.

I have never seen a guy as big as McCormack miss bunnies when all he had to do was dunk it. So maddending.....

John Gasaway’s current top 25 college player rankings. Ochai came in at Number 4.

Higher than I would’ve guessed, but we probably see more of his shortcomings than most national writers will. We’re fans of just this team, so we’re more critical.

His knee is messed up and he needs rest for March. As you can plainly see, this team isn't particularly good without him so it's more important that he sit these games and gets 100%.

Sounds like it’s more than his knee. From Mike Vernon on Twitter:

“Remy Martin HEARINGS:

The rumor is out there that he’s out for the year… I am under the impression that the knee is OK structurally.

From what I understand: there is hope this can be worked out, but tensions are high.

OPINION is that this isn’t about the knee. #kubball

TOO EARLY to say with 100% confidence that he’s done, based on what I’ve heard. Doesn’t look great, tho. Hope they can work it out.

Key words: there is hope this can be worked out.

The players love Remy”

Asked to elaborate/break it down:

“Sure. Bill and Remy don’t see eye to eye. I don’t think this is actually breaking news. Players love Remy. He’s been super engaged during games.

Rumors were flying around about whether or not he plays again. There has been tension, but the hope is that it gets worked out.”

Interesting because he was clearly physically compromised in the last few games he played. I’ll wait for something more substantive. Would be very bad news if it is more than that because this team needs him to unlock its offensive potential.

Nonsense. Yes, he missed some bunnies but it's not as if he's slacking out there. He's still making a big impact with rebounds, steals, blocks, etc. You can't ignore those other things when judging his play. Geez, it's like some of you just started watching basketball.

Totally agree. Vernon is plugged in though but we’ll see if anything comes from it. If Remy is done for though this team doesn’t make it past the S16.

At the time I posted that, KU was down 8 at home to a pretty ordinary WVU team. Can’t say I saw both McCormack and Wilson play their best games of the season after that. Obviously if those two play like that all the time they won’t need Martin but we both know they won’t do that.

Yes, if it is some kind of feud, that’s a massive issue. Such a huge part of this offense. Self will also never concede to a player in that kind of situation (nor should he quite frankly).

I like McCormack way better in a Landen Lucas type role. Just rebound, dunk when it’s there, draw fouls, and play defense.

No need to force feed the post over and over. Let guards take over and take what’s given from there.

It was hyperbole.

But I do agree that this team is much better with Remy.

I don't know what to think of Dave. Why does he not understand that Bill wants him to play hard and strong? If he gives that every game this team can go far. Wilson has been playing better and better the past few games so this shouldn't have been a surprise.

Give up a 15-2 run, now down by 1?

I've never seen a team look dominant for 5 minutes then completely forget how to play even kindergarten level basketball like this team can. It's amazing to watch.

I’m lost for words. This team is so bi polar.

It’s not a F4 team by any means.

This team is gonna lose quite a few game this year. Way too much talent.

I’m gonna wait for KCC to whine in about someone or something before I say much more.

That’s 2 times in this game where this team basically forgot how to play basketball for a 5 minute stretch of game time. Piss poor intensity all game too.

Remy Martin appears to have been effectively benched as well (and he didn’t seem to be particularly trying too hard when he actually was out there). So there may be something going on there.

Holy Cow, we up 3 with 10 sec. left

Reerun_KC 01-18-2022 08:01 PM

Braun chattering at someone after that 3.

Reerun_KC 01-18-2022 08:05 PM

Sigh.

How come we struggle to inbound while all teams can get the ball in with ease when KU presses?

CasselGotPeedOn 01-18-2022 08:05 PM

Braun has a serious edge and I love it.
