You may not be able to get Jones age 29 without an extension:
  • Does he hold out part of the season?
  • Is he unmotivated and has a subpar season because he felt unappreciated?
  • Is his 2023 cap number too high for what you get out of him?

And if you let him walk at age 30, there are probably 25 sacks scattered over the next 3 years from the DT position leaving out the door with him. How many of those will you get back from whoever your replace him with?

How much will the sack production of our DE fall off because Chris Jones is no longer facing double teams?

It isn't as easy as skimming Chris Jones age 29 cream from the top and then dumping him.

No reason to be concerned.

Juju ran 4.53

Rice ran 4.51

Toney ran 4.4

James 4.48

We still won the Super Bowl. Hardman was no great loss by any means, 25 receptions 297 yards. Don’t worry about Toney. He’s going to be just fine, trust me.

Eh, he'd be playing a legit full on contract year. I'd imagine that would be motivation enough, unless he just wants a trade at this point. It's pretty late in the cycle for that so I doubt many teams have the cash to do it.

Being unmotivated and dogging it would be a bold strategy since all his potential suitors would see it happen. You think he'd get the contract numbers he's looking after being an unproductive malcontent? I don't see teams lining up to give a guy who'd be another year older and coming off a shitty season $30M/yr, but that's just me.

He's not stupid. He'll be back before preseason ends and he'll have a great year. He has to.

Kiimo 08-04-2023 08:25 AM

This sure feels exactly like the atmosphere before he signed his contract the first time.

Then one day it was all over and it was like nothing happened.
