Just so you're aware Rainman, this is the full version of the trade chart that PFT references in your link: https://www.drafttek.com/NFL-Trade-Value-Chart.asp
I'd think it more beneficial with comp picks being tradeable now and so forth. The NFL doesn't really use this chart anymore, they use something closer to the Rich Hill model linked to on that page or here: https://www.drafttek.com/NFL-Trade-V...-Rich-Hill.asp. That said, we've used the Jimmy Johnson one forever so I'm not advocating for change of charts, I'll leave that to you guys. |

I feel like I'm probably going to end up mirroring KC's draft pretty heavily this year. They picked quite a few guys I really like and could really use. Shall be interesting.

I’ve started a list of possibilities at each of my picks and it’s pretty overwhelming. I have a lot of holes. |
Im also heavily torn between trying to “field” the best team next season vs. drafting the players I think will have the best careers even if they aren’t at positions of need and will leave me with dogshit at key positions.

This is where I’m currently at - I reserve the right to tinker a bit more. I’m very torn on what to do with #103.
#1 - 29: Breece Hall, RB, Iowa State (Jets) #1 - 30: George Karlaftis, DE, Purdue (Chiefs) #2 - 50: Skyy Moore, WR, Western Michigan (Chiefs) #2 - 62: Travis Jones, DT, UConn (Ravens) #3 - 94 : Nick Cross, S, Maryland (Colts) #3 - 103: Leo Chanel, LB, Wisconsin (Chiefs) OR Dameon Pierce, RB, Florida (Texans) #4 - 121: Darian Kinnard, OG/OT, Kentucky (Chiefs) #4 - 135: Eric Johnson, DT, Missouri State (Colts) #6 - 208: Tariq Castro-Fields, CB, Penn State (49ers) #7 - 233: Rasheed Walker, OT, Penn State (Packers) #7 - 251: Kellen Diesch, OT, Arizona State (UDFA - Dolphins) #7 - 259: Johnathan Garibay, K, Texas Tech (UDFA - Cowboys) |

I don't want to sway your opinion before you settle on your draft but I know what I'd do and it's not even a difficult decision in my mind. |

I wish we had a sliding scale of devaluation like 15% for 1st round picks, 12.5% for 2nd, 10% for 3rd, and so on and it worked both ways (up or down). My reasoning is I can't even move up 1 spot from 5-173 with all 4 of my 7ths because of the devaluation. Moving down is so incredibly bad it's basically not even in my thought process. |
Filling my biggest hole at Edge is easy unless I try to get cute and take a shot at a potential #1 WR.
If I opt to go for Edge at 30, then it's what I do after that I'm struggling with. Do I take a few really good football players and make my roster really solid just about everywhere or do I package a few picks and take a stab at trying to get a potentially good WR? The last thing I need is to end up with yet another #2 or slot because my roster is stacked with those. In either of those scenarios, I'd be nervous about my RT situation. My "smart" top 2 picks are George Karlaftis and Abraham Lucas. If I get cute and go with Christian Watson at 30 in a balls-deep stab to get a #1 WR, then I "should" move up for an Edge in the 2nd or 3rd that isn't going to be as good as GK. If I do that, I'm not getting those roster fillers I want in the 3rd round and may have to rely on a guy like Kinnard actually becoming a RT. I'm leaning the safe route, but man I like the situation Watson is in. |
2022 Superior Yetis Draft
https://i.ibb.co/bFRj6Rh/superior-ye...ps07cnpbb5.png
2022 Superior Yetis Draft I had the following draft pick transactions:
I am not making any in-draft transactions and make the following selections (click name to view highlight video): 1-30 | George Karlaftis, ER, Purdue (6’4” 266, 1-30 KC) After being strong at edge for years, I find myself left with Matt Judon and little else. Karlaftis was one of my favorites in this class and the fact he went to KC in this spot makes it even easier to make this selection. Karlafits brings incredible drive and relentlessness to the front and wins with power, which I’m quite high on (and has produced really good results for me). With Judon already in my mix, Karlaftis is the perfect Maxx Crosby-like compliment on the other side. 2-62 | Bernhard Raimann, OT, Central Michigan (6’6” 307, 3-77 IND) The tackle spot last year was a glaring weakness when Teven Jenkins went down early on, and Wylie didn’t secure the starting spot at right tackle until midway through the season. I have to address the position. I really wish it didn't look like Chicago is going to move Teven Jenkins to the right side because I'd run to the podium for Abraham Lucas. That said, Jenkins at RT could be excellent but now I'm left with pretty limited options for a LT and I'm just not willing to give up my 1, 2, 3, and 5 to go up for Penning. This pick comes down to Nicholas Petit-Frere and Bernhard Raimann, both of which look like solid developmental left tackles. The question for me to answer is who I think has the best chance of playing right away and for me that's Raimann who has outstanding athleticism and better strength. 3-94 | Leo Chenal, LB, Wisconsin (6’3” 250, 3-103 KC) I’m still quite appalled that Kansas City took Chenal who I had on my shortlist for this particular exercise since day one. Chenal is all sorts of nasty, will shut down the run, and can blitz from the strong side with incredible effectiveness. I’m thrilled to add him to my corps that includes two good, rangier linebackers in Logan Wilson and Cole Holcomb. My unit is set with young, athletic guys that each add their own stamp to the game. 3-103 | Cade Otton, TE, Washington (6’5” 247, 4-106 TB) I’m a bit more concerned over depth at tight end than the Chiefs are if something were to happen to Kelce so I’m going to go out and get me a solid backup that may just make this team even more dynamic. Otton is a technically sound route runner with solid speed and really good hands. I think he’s going to end up being a quality starter in this league for quite some time. 4-135 | Tyler Allgeier, RB, Brigham Young (5’11” 224, 5-151 ATL) I really thought about hedging my bets at right tackle here and adding Darian Kinnard but I’d be remiss if I didn’t say I’m not 100% confident in Kinnard’s ability to translate outside even though I love him as a prospect. Meanwhile, I really could use another badass RB to compliment Aaron Jones after Chris Carson went down last year (and his future doesn’t look good). I’d like more stability than just a one-year contract to Ronald Jones. Allgeier is a punishing runner with plenty of lateral agility, good vision, and enough speed to make you pay. I really like this kid and he’s one of the few I had my eyes on on day three. 5-173 | Christian Benford, CB, Villanova (6’1” 208, 6-185 BUF) I could use CB depth but I don’t have the fundamental needs the real Chiefs do given I’ve addressed the position the last couple years with Paulson Adebo (stud) and Byron Murphy to go with Sneed and Baker. I’m taking my shot on Benford who led the FCS in pass breakups last season and totalled 137 tackles, 47 passes defensed, and 14 interceptions in 36 career games. He has plus height and speed and should have a solid shot to make the roster. 7-233 | Rasheed Walker, OT, Penn State (6’6” 313, 7-249 GB) And so begins the handful of late picks that probably never amount to anything but I’ve gotta throw the darts. I like Walker’s ability as a pass blocker. He might take a year or two to really turn into a quality player but he has some really good tools to start with. He has enough athleticism he could end up a left or right tackle and enough power, if it can be channeled correctly in the run game, to be a guard. This is a developmental pick that I may let marinate and see what I get. 7-243 | Jeffrey Gunter, ER, Coastal Carolina (6’4” 258, 7-252 CIN) Look, this is a 100% shot in the dark on a guy I don’t think makes a 53-man roster this year but he’s got some really good athleticism to work with. If he can learn any kind of technique and how to convert speed to power effectively, he could work his way into a rotation. I’m going to take a chance he develops more quickly than not, and given I have a couple of turds already on my roster I might just give him that shot. 7-251 | Justyn Ross, WR, Clemson (6'4" 205, UDFA KC) I've been a huge fan of what Ross brings to the table throughout the draft process. His concerns over his spinal condition and foot were daunting, despite a 1st or 2nd round skillset. Ross reminds me a ton of AJ Green when he's healthy, and he certainly could be a big surprise. For me, I'm banking on his health and return to his form as a Freshman in the ACC where he dominated on a roster that also included Tee Higgins and Hunter Renfrow. 7-259 | Nazeeh Johnson, FS, Marshall (5’10” 199, 7-259 KC) The last thing I need is a safety but I’ve been enamored with Johnson all offseason and I’m pretty thrilled the Chiefs drafted him, so I’m sticking with the pick here and adding him to my deep group and hoping he’ll stick as a nickel defender that can shut down the slot in the mold of Tyrann Mathieu. What I really love about Johnson is he’s athletic as hell and gets his hands on a ton of balls with his sticky coverage. I think Johnson is one of the bigger sleeper picks in this entire draft. kccrow apparently approves of the Chiefs draft.
I'm working on mine, but am battling a big work deadline at the moment that's taking all of my synapses. |
Okay, without further ado, here's my 2022 draft.
First, I didn't have the right draft picks to make any of the Chiefs' draft day trades, so none of those were on the table for me. I'm standing pat with my base picks with no trade ups or trade downs. 1-30 -George Karlaftis, DE (Chiefs) – I agree with the Chiefs here and our needs overlap. I have a lot of trouble drafting defensive ends, so I hope George can lock down a position. Others considered: I very strongly considered Logan Hall at DE and would have taken him other than some concern whether he might move inside to DT. I also briefly considered Roger McCreary (CB) and Andrew Booth (CB), and a took passing look at trading down for Troy Andersen (OLB). 2-62 – Nakobe Dean, ILB (Eagles) – This was a tough pick because I had a lot of guys I like. My linebacking corps has been a perennial weak spot so I’ll invest more this year to try to get some established starters. Others considered: I was inches from taking Malik Willis here as a developmental play. But Russell Wilson is 33 and in the modern era I can see him playing for five more years or longer. I’m rolling the dice here that I can find a QB a couple of years from now and that Russell won’t retire once he starts playing for a disorganized and hapless franchise. I also briefly looked at Matt Corral instead of Malik, but liked Malik better. I also considered three other strong ILB prospects, in order: Chad Muma, Christian Harris, and Brian Asamoah. I liked all of them but decided to roll with Nakobe. And finally, I was intrigued by Bernhard Raimann, but don’t have an immediate need at offensive tackle. 3-94 – Coby Bryant, CB (Seahawks) – My cornerback position is okay but declining. Coby will be a great talent addition. Others considered: David Bell was intriguing at WR, and I took a brief look at Brian Robinson at RB. 3-103 – Leo Chenal, OLB (Chiefs) – Easy choice here. Chenal was my draft crush even before the Chiefs took him, and OLB is a huge need for me. Others considered: None, really. If Chenal wasn’t there I would’ve considered WR Danny Gray. 4-135 – Khalil Shakir, WR (Bills). I’ve been having talent shortages at WR for a while. It wasn’t a big priority with some free agents coming in, but Shakir seems like a good value here. Others considered: I was very intrigued by Malcolm Rodriguez (ILB) and would have drafted him if I didn’t already pick up an ILB earlier in the draft. Others who got consideration were (in descending order) Kingsley Enagbare (LB), Darian Kinnard (OT), Calvin Austin III (WR), D'Marco Jackson (ILB), Sam Howell (QB), John Ridgeway (DT), Braxton Jones (OT), and Thomas Booker (DT). There was a big gap between this pick and my next one, so I had a lot of talent to consider. 6-191 – Grant Calcaterra, TE (Eagles). I need some tight end depth and he seemed like a good value. Others considered: Jailen Nailor (WR) and Tyler Badie (RB) 6-209 – Kalia Davis, DT (49ers). This isn't an area of need, but it seemed like the best value. Others considered: Bo Melton (WR), Tariq Castro-Fields (CB) 7-251 – Isaih Pacheco, RB (Chiefs) – I don’t really need a running back, but I like his speed. Others considered: Strongly considered Jeffrey Gunter (DE). If I hadn't already taken two defensive linemen I would've gone with Gunter. 7-259 – Carson Strong, QB (Eagles) – This is a risk/reward play. The odds are apparently low, but there’s a chance that his knee will be okay and I’ll get a good quarterback prospect cheap. Others considered: I really liked Verone McKinley III (S) and Aaron Hansford (LB). I think all three of these guys have a good chance of becoming contributors. |
I apparently like both the Chiefs' and Eagles' drafts.

I apologize in advance: with so many picks, I just can’t motivate myself to transcribe in depth / meaningful prospect analysis for each pick. I threw in some narrative that I assume no one but me will actually read. I’ll also own that I may have re-evaluated and plagiarized a pick or two after seeing Rainman’s selections. Tacoma Trash Panda 2022 Draft #1 - 29: Breece Hall, RB, Iowa State (Jets) I think Breece is going to be a top 5 RB in the league sooner rather than later, and I don’t think CEH will ever be a reliable/extended #1 for me. Time to upgrade. #1 - 30: George Karlaftis, DE, Purdue (Chiefs) Just like the Chiefs, I desperately need DE help. Karlaftis brings he best value at this point. Others strongly considered: Arnold Ebiketie, DE, Penn State & Daxon Hill, S, Michigan #2 - 50: Skyy Moore, WR, Western Michigan (Chiefs) Moore isn’t my favorite player, but I think he’s set up for success and I want that success to be a part of my team. #2 - 62: Nakobe Dean, LB, Georgia (Eagles) Rainman inspired me to relook at the latest news on Deans medicals. I need to reinforce my LB corps and Dean is incredible value at this point if healthy. I trust that he is. I hate giving up Travis Jones, but my hope is that with Dean and Chanel I will be set at LB for years to come. Others strongly considered: Travis Jones, DT, UConn #3 - 94 : Nick Cross, S, Maryland (Colts) Smart and rangy safety with good measurables? Yes please. #3 - 103: Leo Chanel, LB, Wisconsin (Chiefs) I hate passing on Pierce, but Chanel is a stud. Between Chanel and Dean I should be set at LB for a few years. Others strongly considered: Dameon Pierce, RB, Florida #4 - 121: Darian Kinnard, OG/OT, Kentucky (Chiefs) I need a RT. Hard to argue with Veach that Kinnard is the best bet at this point. #4 - 135: Eric Johnson, DT, Missouri State (Colts) Johnson is an athletic freak and my confidence in him is he reason I was willing to take Nakobe Dean over Travis Jones. I think Johnson will be an all pro and genuinely think this is one of my safest/easiest picks. #6 - 208: Tariq Castro-Fields, CB, Penn State (49ers) Throwing a dart. Castro-Fields was generally ranked 50-75 slots higher by most rankings. Needs to work on his decision making, but the potential is there. Others strongly considered: Chasen Hines, OG, LSU #7 - 233: Rasheed Walker, OT, Penn State (Packers) Taking another shot at a RT. Walker is a developmental prospect. #7 - 251: Carson Strong, QB, Nevada (UDFA - Eagles) Carrying Henne / Buechelle does nothing for me in this game. Taking a chance to have two starting caliber QBs on my roster! #7 - 259: Justyn Ross, WR, Clemson (UDFA - Chiefs) I have picks to burn. I don’t want to be the idiot (like 31 NFL GMs) who passed on Ross when he has the potential to be a stud. Can he stay healthy? We shall see. |
I'll read every word, kellerfox.
It's interesting to see you taking a flyer on Carson Strong as well. It sounds like he's kind of a long shot, but the potential payoff is huge if he can play. |
Quote:
That 3rd, as we saw, would have snagged one of the top TEs in this draft and I really think it was a mistake not to get a value at that point from this class. The Chiefs are not at all strong behind Kelce. That trade also cost a 4th that would have put the Chiefs in a prime position to take a good RB. It's all hindsight though, and I think Veach did well. Karlaftis, Chenal, and Kinnard were pretty awesome values IMO and I'm quite high on McDuffie, Moore and Johnson to boot. |
I'll be most interested to see how both of you taking Dean works out. I would have gone for Muma there myself so maybe we can compare apples in a couple of years.
I like your picks of Bryant and Calcaterra Rainman. Both could be sneaky good values. I was really high on Bryant pre-draft and strongly considered going with the same two players in the 3rd as you did, but I just couldn't get over my thing for Otton. I like your pick of Johnson in the 4th kellerfox. You'll never find me a fan of going RB in round 1, no matter how much I might like one. That said, if I were ever to do it it would be for a guy like Hall who looks to be a complete package of size, speed, and ability. Don't know if I could have pulled that trigger, but I get it. |
In real life, 100% agree on round 1 RB.
For this game, the value of securing a high probability hit (day 1 starter with heavy utilization) at any position is worth it IMO. The fact that I genuinely think Hall is destined to be a top 5 back for atleast a 5 year stretch is just added value. We'll see how it works out for me... |
Quote:
The more I read about Bryant, the more I liked him, and he was helped by the fact that I wasn't enthralled with any of the other prospects in his draft slot. I pretty much had him locked in with that pick. Calcaterra was available pretty late for my thinking, and I've been very thin at TE for a couple of years. Hopefully he can develop and be a #2 for me behind Kelce. And it's interesting that kellerfox is rolling the dice on Carson Strong, too. I was reading that his knee is terrible, but if not for that he would have been a high-round prospect. I'll risk a seventh-round pick on modern medicine there. I was surprised that Verone McKinley and Aaron Hansford both went undrafted and wanted to pick those guys up with my last pick, but I decided to go with Strong. I can afford to sit him for a few years while Russell Wilson starts. |

I very much contemplated the trade up for Penning to lock in my LT with a guy I think will be a stud, but it would have been incredibly expensive (1-30, 2-62, 3-94, 7-251, 7-259 to get to 19) and limited my ability to do much of anything else of note. I would have been left with 3-103, 4-135, 5-173, 7-233, and 7-243. I likely would have went: 1-19 LT T. Penning 3-103 LB L. Chenal 4-135 DE M. Clemons 5-173 DE K. Engabare 7-233 OL R. Walker 7-243 RB I. Pacheco The double-dip at edge in the mid-rounds would be an effort to hedge my bets with slightly better-qualified talent since I'd be missing out on so much early-round talent. In the end, I decided to just hope Raimann turns into a good player. I have many more concerns than I do with Penning but at least I'm filling in more of my roster with players I think will be really good (Karlaftis, Otton, and Allgeier specifically). It's very hard to go for broke and leave all that on the table. I banking on a higher upside with Raimann over Petit-Frere there too, which may or may not end up a mistake. Raimann has the age concern but any team would be foolish to plan past 5 years anyhow. If next year I'm left in a similar situation then I may just have to bite down hard and take it. Gunter, well he's a big shot in the dark on athletic traits. I'm not sure he makes it on the 53 but he may surrpise. |

My 2019 draft has underachieved so far. |
Quote:
Mine was pretty good overall. In the end, I have 4 starters from that class: 2019 Draft Round 1, Selection 29 | Byron Murphy, CB, Washington (#2-33 ARZ) Top-end nickel but struggles at times on the outside. Round 2, Selection 48 (f/MIA) | Erik McCoy, OC, Texas A&M (#2-48 NO) Pretty much as good as it gets at the center spot. Round 3, Selection 92 | Oshane Ximines, ER, Old Dominion (#3-95 NYG) Has never really developed. I had high hopes for him. Round 4, Selection 116 (f/MIA) | Amani Hooker, DB, Iowa (#4-116 TEN) Has steadily grown and became the starter at SS last year after 5 games (broken foot) and was solid. Round 5, Selection 167 | Cole Holcomb, LB, North Carolina (#5-173 WAS) Has been a starter since his rookie year and a damned good one at that. Moving inside to MLB this year so we'll see what happens with that. Round 6, Selection 201 | Derwin Gray, OT, Maryland (#7-219 PIT) Misfire. Round 6, Selection 214 (Comp) | Alize Mack, TE, Notre Dame (#7-231 NO) Misfire. Round 7, Selection 243 | Olabisi Johnson, WR, Colorado State (#7-247 MIN) Has maintained a spot on the roster and even started a few games but missed all of last season with an ACL tear. |
I didn’t miss on a single pick in 2019… :D

The top half of my draft is also looking promising, but I have a feeling that I’m going to kick myself for not taking Travis Jones (as much as I love Nakobe Dean).
With the off-season that CEH has had, I’m glad I made the semi-illogical move to take a Breece Hall. Otherwise, my team would have zero threats at RB. |
I will be out of pocket from Sept. 2-10. I’ll try to trim my roster down before leaving… but if I’m late (after the 10th), I’m asking for forgiveness in advance!
|
I'm liking what I'm seeing from a few rookies, namely Karlaftis, Benford, and Allgeier. I don't know yet about Chenal, Otton, and Raimann for 2023 contributions.
I'm probably looking at cutting Ross and Walker. Not too sure about Johnson. I might hang onto him because I already have 4 starters at safety anyhow. I'm super high on Karlaftis at this point or I'd really be kicking myself for not moving up for Penning. My tackle situation is dogshit right now... again. |
Busy week at work followed by a work-free vacation week, so getting things locked in now. Hopefully I don’t get “bit” by any surprise cuts/signings.

Commentary…
First, the cuts: I didn’t have to make many cuts (fortunately) because my roster and depth was decimated by all of the Chiefs FA departures this off-season (unfortunate). Because my team is only 2 years old, most of them were on my roster when I began (forcing them to be removed). Because Hitchens was cut, I was really hoping he’d catch on somewhere else as a starter and I could retain him… but alas… the NFL has decided he’s done. I cut Gowan (who was one of my draft picks last year) because he’s essentially fizzled out on two teams now. He’s current CB 10 for the Eagles and I’m expecting him to be cut. I don’t think he gets another shot elsewhere. Time to cut my losses. Fountain/Henne - cut in favor of keeping other depth at their positions whom I feel have higher long-term ceilings Ronald Jones - I wanted to keep him and see if I could hit the jackpot if he’s traded to or cut/signs with a RB desperate team… but next on my cut list was Lucas Niang. I ultimately decided to give Niang one more year and cut Jones. Overall team: I feel great about the offense. Like the Chiefs, I need a RT, but we are going to score a lot of points. My big departure from the actual Chiefs roster is as RB where I have Hall and Gainwell. I think these two form a dynamic 1-2 punch rushing and receiving beyond what the Chiefs currently have. This threat will relieve even more pressure off my receivers allowing them to feast. Defense, well… I feel great about the DL. I’ve drafted two solid DT backups (Tonga and Johnson) as well as two young DEs primed for big years (Basham and Karlaftis). However, it goes down hill from there. At LB I’m okay, but that is counting on Dean to be a stud as a rookie. At DB, things are scary. CB has no depth (and will only get worse if we don’t resign Fenton or Sneed in the coming years) and all of my safeties are a bit of an unknown - although Nick across has looked great in preseason. We will see how the defense pans out, but I’m thinking it will be an area I need to focus on in the 2023 draft. |
Rookie report:
#1 - 29: Breece Hall, RB, Iowa State (Jets) Reports from Jets camp have been great, but Breece has lost a few Olineman and his QB potentially dampening his 2022 outlook a bit. He will start the year backing up Michael Carter, but I expect him to be given the keys within a few weeks given the obvious talent gap between the two. They’re just making him work for it. #1 - 30: George Karlaftis, DE, Purdue (Chiefs) Looking like a hit for GM Kellerfox and Brett Veach. Hoping for 6+ sacks this year, but feeling good about having a long-term starter at DE. #2 - 50: Skyy Moore, WR, Western Michigan (Chiefs) 2022 will be a brown year before he explodes in 2023 as the Chiefs WR1. Happy with my investment. #2 - 62: Nakobe Dean, LB, Georgia (Eagles) Dean appears to have had just an okay camp (but some good preseason games). He will start the year as the Eagles backup MLB, but my hope is that he will continue to grow/adjust into the NFL and see more playing time as the season progresses. I still expect him to be a long-term starter. #3 - 94 : Nick Cross, S, Maryland (Colts) Has looked like a stud in the preseason and is projected as the Colts starting SS. Hit! #3 - 103: Leo Chanel, LB, Wisconsin (Chiefs) Chanel has had a somewhat quiet camp and preseason. #4 - 121: Darian Kinnard, OG/OT, Kentucky (Chiefs) Kinnard has had a rough camp and pre season. He won’t be the quick fix at RT that I hoped for. Will hold him as a developmental prospect. #4 - 135: Eric Johnson, DT, Missouri State (Colts) Johnson has reportedly been a bit a bit up and down at Colts camp. He has wowed with his athleticism but also struggled adjusting from the talent gap between d2 and the NFL. He will be a key backup this season. #6 - 208: Tariq Castro-Fields, CB, Penn State (49ers) Can’t find much on him, think he’s bound for the practice squad. #7 - 233: Rasheed Walker, OT, Penn State (Packers) He’s been fighting injuries all camp and made his debut against the Chiefs last Thursday. He played ~50 snaps at RT and didn’t give up a pressure. I like his potential and think he could grow into a solid RT in a year or two, #7 - 251: Carson Strong, QB, Nevada (UDFA - Eagles) The Eagles haven’t given him much of a chance in camp or the preseason. I’m hoping he is smart enough to go to another teams PS after he’s cut, rather than remaining in Philly. #7 - 259: Justyn Ross, WR, Clemson (UDFA - Chiefs) We hardly knew ye. Primed for a year on IR. |

It's not looking great at the tackle spots, while the interior is overloaded. I'm hoping one of Josh Ball, Teven Jenkins, Bernhard Raimann, and Rasheed Walker latch onto a spot on the outside and ball out but I might be asking too much. I can't seem to find a solution at the position and might have to spend much higher resources, but if you guys ever need help finding a #2 WR, Safety, or Center, well then I'm your guy... lol. Cuts RB - Christopher Carson (7-245/17 - SEA) - Retired from his neck injury. He was a solid back for me. DL - Carlos Watkins (4-132/17 - DAL) - He's been a very average-at-best player for me and after his recent cut I feel like it's time to just cut my losses. ER - Oshane Ximines (3-92/19 - NYG) - I thought this might come down to holding Perkins on the roster another year in hopes he ever gets off IR or keeping Ximines who never did anything. I decided to waive goodbye to both and hang onto hopes that Carlos Dunlap has one good year left in him and that I can pick up another rusher in '23. ER - Ronnie Perkins (3-94/21 - NE) WR - Olabisi Johnson (7-243/19 - MIN) - After another ACL tear in back-to-back seasons, I'm pretty sure it's time to just let him go. WR - Rashard Higgins (5-162/16 - CAR) - I've clung to Higgins a while for very modest production. I'd rather take chances elsewhere. Other cuts: TE Blake Bell (FA/21 - KC), WR Daurice Fountain (FA/21 - KC), WR Corey Coleman (FA/22 - KC), OC Austin Reiter (FA/22 - KC), OL Roderick Johnson (FA/22 - KC), OL Mike Caliendo (UDFA/22 - KC), DL Taylor Stallworth (FA/22 - KC), DL Danny Shelton (FA/22 - KC), LB Elijah Lee (FA/22 - KC), ER Azur Kamara (FA/22 - KC), LB Jermaine Carter (FA/22 - KC), CB Luq Barcoo (FA/22 - KC), DB Deon Bush (FA/22 - KC) Rookie Report DE George Karlaftis (1-30): Looks like the real deal and a solid pick, something I could definitely use in the trenches. OT Bernhard Raimann (2-62): It looks like he may have lost out on the starting gig at LT which is a definite concern for me given my Teven Jenkins situation and him moving to RG. Not that he might not be the future, but I was hopeful Raimann could immediately fill my void LT slot. LB Leo Chenal (3-94): Chenal looked solid in the preseason but we didn't get much indication about how he'd be used. TE Cade Otton (3-103): Otton is buried behind long-time vets Brate and Rudolph for now, but had a really good camp. RB Tyler Allgeier (4-135): Allgeier might start the season behind Patterson and Williams but he has a solid shot to be an early short-yardage and goalline player that evolves into more. CB Christian Benford (5-173): Benford had a great pre-season and looks like he could be the real deal. He should be the team's 3rd CB to start the season with White on the PUP but could overtake Elam if he starts shaky. DE Jeffrey Gunter (7-243): Gunter made the Bengals' 53 and had a solid pre-season. He could end up a nice rotational piece, but we'll see. WR Justyn Ross (7-251): The Chiefs and Ross decided another surgery on his foot was required but he turned heads in mini-camp. He'll spend the year on IR but I'm going to carve out a spot to save him for next year, just in case. CB Nazeeh Johnson (7-259): The Chiefs are keeping Johnson on the PS, and I would too if there were one. I don't have much space for Johnson but I'm a bit shy on corners so I'll keep him around and hope he develops into the nickel-hybrid player I hoped he would be. |
It's a time of change for my team as we part ways with some longtime contributors on defense and start rebuilding. I won't list the cuts who were camp fodder.
Quarterback Russell Wilson Sam Ehlinger Carson Strong (Rookie) We remain strong here with Russell Wilson, and we like the two young guys behind him. Notable Cuts: Easton Stick. He's had no chance to prove himself. Running Back Alvin Kamara Rashaad Penny Isaih Pacheco (Rookie) Ronald Jones II Kamara will bounce back this year, and our patience with Rashaad Penny may pay off. We've got some young depth and Ronald Jones will also get some snaps. Notable Cuts: Damien Williams and Justin Jackson. I wanted to keep Damien, but he was my 54th player. Jackson was a good role player for a while. Fullback Michael Burton We're guaranteed to get every third and short. Notable Cuts: None Wide Receiver Juju Smith-Schuster Marquez Valdez-Scantling Donovan Peoples-Jones Terrace Marshall Justin Watson Khalil Shakir (Rookie) James Washington We don't have any major stars (yet), but we've got a posse of productive guys if our young guys come through. Peoples-Jones will start in Cleveland. Terrace Marshall has been disappointing so far and is a backup. James Washington barely kept his job over another disappointing second-round pick, Andy Isabella. Notable Cuts: Andy Isabella, Daurice Fountain, Dazz Newsome, Jerrion Ealy, Justyn Ross. The Andy Isabella experiment is over. Tight End Travis Kelce Blake Bell Grant Calcaterra (Rookie) Kelce is of course the best TE in the league. We've got Bell at second string when he recovers, and a rookie to fill out the roster. Notable cuts: None Offensive Tackles Orlando Brown, Jr. Morgan Moses Geron Christian Lucas Niang, G/T We have two massive starters and some unproven backups. Notable cuts: None Guard Wyatt Teller Trey Smith Joe Thuney This is a talent powerhouse. I'm not even sure which two will start. Notable cuts: None Center Cody Whitehair We're strong here. Notable cuts: None Kicker Harrison Butker Best in the business. Punter Tommy Townsend We'll keep Tommy for another year. Long Snapper James Winchester Best in the business Safety Jordan Poyer Justin Reid Andre Cisco Deon Bush Jordan Poyer has been on the team for a decade and gets better every year. Reid and Cisco will battle for a starting spot (Cisco is now a starter in Jacksonville) and Bush will be our enforcer. Notable cuts: Tyrann Matthieu left in free agency. Cornerback Marcus Peters Coby Bryant (Rookie) Desmond King Amik Robertson Shaun Wade We're giving a rookie a starting job here and have two solid nickel and dime backs. We're holding on to Wade to give him one more chance to prove himself. Notable cuts: Deandre Baker, Bashaud Breeland. I'm not sure why Breeland can't hold a job. Outside Linebacker Elijah Lee Leo Chenal (Rookie) Zach Baun Anthony Nelson Cameron McGrone I constantly invest in this position and can never hit on a starter. We'll start our new free agent Lee and will give Chenal a starting job over our group of underachieving draftees. Notable cuts: AJ Klein, Jaylon Ferguson. AJ Klein was a very productive mid-round pick for us, but his time has come. Jaylon Ferguson is dead. Inside Linebacker Nakobe Dean (Rookie) We're handing the job to a rookie because we have no other options. Notable cuts: Anthony Hitchens, Jermaine Carter, Dylan Moses. Hitchens was okay. The other two guys never saw the field for me. Moses was a late-round flyer and never came back from injury. Defensive end George Karlaftis (Rookie) Yetur Gross-Matos Dorance Armstrong Carlos Dunlap Ifeadi Odenigbo After years of failure drafting at this position, I now have three legitimate NFL starters. I think I'm pretty good here at long last. Notable cuts: Malik Herring, Azur Kamara, Alex Okafor. I liked the two rookies and Okafor has been productive. I was deep at DE. Defensive Tackle Andrew Billings Tershawn Wharton Kalia Davis (Rookie) Marvin Wilson I'm razor thin here. Billings and Wharton are good as starters, but I'm hoping that my rookie and last year's flyer with Wilson will pay off. Notable cuts: Taylor Stallworth, Danny Shelton, Jarran Reed (free agent loss), Brandon Williams (Ravens), Star Lotulelei (Bills), Maurice Hurst. Brandon Williams and Star Lotulelei were rocks for me for many years, but their time has come. I'm going to have to start investing in this position after the luxury of having veterans here forever. |
Overall, I think my offense is strong if I can get some of my wide receivers to step up. That's my only real vulnerability on offense.
Defense is a chapter not yet written. I lost several productive long-time veterans, so my depth is thin. I'm starting four rookies at DE, ILB, OLB, and CB. My depth is okay in the backfield and at DE, but I'm very thin at DT and the LB corps. I need my rookies to play well. |
If I began right now, I'd get all the Chiefs players. Then in any future years, their lost free agents from this current roster would be my lost free agents?
I can only add free agents the Chiefs sign? So the only real way to get different players is via the draft and by not accepting trades the Chiefs took? |

It's geared hard towards draft eval. |
My team had five pro bowlers this year, though only two that I drafted:
Travis Kelce Orlando Brown, Jr. Joe Thuney Tommy Townsend Jordan Poyer Some of my past pro bowlers fell off this year: Russell Wilson, Alvin Kamara, Wyatt Teller, and Marcus Peters. This is a rebuilding year for us. And we're kind of screwed at quarterback for a long time. |
2022 Yetis Report
Overall:
I'm releasing this a week early, and without the results of the CIN/BUF game (damn that sucks) but I wanted to gauge things a bit off a 16-game run for consistency. I'm extremely pleased with my team right now. I don't really feel like there are overwhelming weak spots in the starting lineup outside of RT. I do fear it is, once again, a fatty draft for me to shore up the OT and DT spots. I'd really like to stake claim to a #1 WR and a #1 CB but I'm okay enough to get by. OFFENSE (27) Lineup (Rotation/Reserve): QB P. Mahomes III (C. Henne) RB A. Jones (T. Allgeier, R. Jones II) TE T. Kelce (C. Otton, N. Gray) WR J. Smith-Schuster (J. Watson) WR G. Davis (D. Peoples-Jones) WR T. Boyd (M. Valdes-Scantling) LT B. Raimann (G. Christian) LG J. Thuney (B. Bozeman) OC E. McCoy (C. McGovern) RG T. Smith (T. Jenkins) RT A. Wylie (J. Ball) QB: Can't be any happier when you have the MVP but I do need to do something at the backup spot for the future. Patrick Mahomes III (1-10/17 - KC) - 417/622 5,048 yds 40 TD 12 INT 58 car 329 yds 4 TD Chad Henne (FA/20 - KC) - Nuffin. RB: I've maintained a good stable with modest investments. I'm happy here. Jones does Jones things and is a very good back. Allgeier looks frustratingly average but he is productive. Aaron Jones (5-180/17 - GB) - 201 car 1,073 yds 56 rec 375 yds 7 TD Tyler Allgeier (4-135/22 - ATL) - 186 car 900 yds 16 rec 139 yds 4 TD Ronald Jones II (FA/22 - KC) - 7 car 25 yds 1 rec 22 yds - The lone turd I should address. Michael Burton (FA/21 - KC) - He's a FB. He blocks. He plays well on special teams. Good enough. TE: Obviously I have the best of all time but I'm also happy with my young guys that played well with opportunities this year. I think Otton could blossom into a nice get for me going forward. Gray looks like that complimentary H-back that I envisioned so he's about where I'd expect. Travis Kelce - 104 rec 1,300 yds 12 TD Cade Otton (3-103/22 - TB) - 41 rec 386 yds 2 TD Noah Gray (5-162 - KC) - 27 rec 285 yds 1 TD WR: I have a locked and loaded roster of very good #2s. If I ever get a true star? My lord. I could end up with 5 receivers over 700 and 4 over 800. Veach helped with his FA additions but I'm incredibly happy with Davis, Boyd, and Peoples-Jones. JuJu Smith-Schuster (FA/22 - KC) - 76 rec 898 yds 3 TD Gabriel Davis (4-125/20 - BUF) - 45 rec 797 yds 7 TD Tyler Boyd (2-37/16 - CIN) - 53 rec 711 yds 5 TD Donovan Peoples-Jones (5-177/20 - CLE) - 59 rec 797 yds 3 TD Marquez Valdes-Scantling (FA/22 - KC) - 39 rec 660 yds 2 TD Justin Watson (FA/22 - KC) - 14 rec 248 yds 2 TD Justyn Ross (7-251/22 - KC/IR) - My stash for next year OT: A huge frustration has been my LT situation and the colossal misfire that was Teven Jenkins. I do like the development of Raimann so far though and I feel like he's going to be quite solid next year. The rest is very much a dumpster fire. Ball has flashed in limited action this season so we'll see but his only chance to play significant snaps is basically what happened and that's for Steele to get injured. I need reinforcements here. Bernhard Raimann (2-62/22 - IND) Andrew Wylie (FA/18 - KC) Josh Ball (4-136/21 - DAL) Rasheed Walker (7-233/22 - GB) Geron Christian (FA/22 - KC) IOL: I couldn't have a better overall group than I have here. Thuney and McCoy are bonafide studs and the rest of the group is extremely solid. My only real issue is an overloaded room at this point after Jenkins missed at tackle and ended up a guard. Joe Thuney (FA/21 - KC) Erik McCoy (2-48/19 - NO) Trey Smith (6-221/21 - KC) Teven Jenkins (1-31/21 - CHI) Connor McGovern (4-126/16 - NYJ) Bradley Bozeman (6-198/18 - CAR) DEFENSE (23) Lineup (Rotation/Reserve): ER M. Judon (O. Okoronkwo) DT Z. Sieler (D. Nixon) DT J. Madubuike (T. Wharton, R. Blacklock) ER G. Karlaftis (C. Dunlap, J. Gunter) LB C. Holcomb (L. Chenal) LB L. Wilson (I. McDuffie) NB: L. Sneed CB: P. Adebo (N. Johnson) CB: C. Benford (B. Murphy) FS: J. Bates III (T. Moore) SS: J. Reid (A. Hooker) IDL: Thank goodness for Sieler turning into a stud the past couple of seasons because Blacklock was an enormous miss in round 1 (seems to be a bad habit lately). Overall, I'm okay with Madubuke and Sieler starting. Depth is a ... problem. Justin Madubuike (2-64/20 - BAL) - 39 tkl 5.5 sck Zach Sieler (7-219/18 - MIA) - 67 tkl 3.5 sck Ross Blacklock (1-32/20 - MIN) - 2 tkl 1 sck Daviyon Nixon (4-144/21 - CAR) - 6 tkl Tershawn Wharton (UDFA/20 - KC) - 8 tkl 1 sck ER: Judon is a legit DPOY candidate and Karlaftis is coming along nicely. Depth is okay, especially with Okoronkwo looking better in Houston, but I could improve there. I'm disappointed I've burned some 3rds of late and missed only to cut them. I could use another dude as Judon ages, but I won't complain too much. Many teams could do much worse. Matt Judon (4-129/16 - NE) - 57 tkl 15.5 sck George Karlaftis (1-30/22 - KC) - 30 tkl 5.5 sck Ogbonnia Okoronkwo (5-159/18 - HOU) - 43 tkl 5.0 sck Carlos Dunlap (FA/22 - KC) - 39 tkl 4.0 sck Jeffrey Gunter (7-243/22 - CIN) - Cincy has clearly made this a development year but he's stayed on the 53. I can't expect much more from a late 7th. LB: My stud LB in Holcomb went down early in the season (week 7) with a foot injury, so that's stung and degraded my group significantly. Wilson has been the guy I said he'd be when I argued for him over Willie Gay (who has surprised this season a bit) and once again is over 100 tackles. Chenal is developing but I'd like to see a lot more before I'm comfortable with him. McDuffie has also received more playing time in his 2nd year but I don't think he's ever a true starter. Cole Holcomb (5-167/19 - WAS) - 69 tkl Logan Wilson (2-63/20 - CIN) 115 tkl 2.5 sck 1 int Leo Chenal (3-94/22 - KC) - 30 tkl 1.0 sck Isaiah McDuffie (6-208 - GB) - 40 tkl CB: This group is solid all around but I could still use another guy, honestly. Sneed is a slot matchup stud and Abedo is good outside. Murphy is also good in the slot, so that leaves me kind of lost for a #2 opposite Adebo. Benford was coming on strong before he went on IR and he's just now returning which could strengthen the group even more. Murphy was another one of my R1 fails but at least he's serviceable, much like Jenkins. Johnson is a developmental on the 53, much like Gunter. L'Jarius Sneed (4-138/20 - KC) - 104 tkl 3.5 sck 3 int Paulson Adebo (2-63/21 - NO) - 60 tkl Byron Murphy (1-29/19 - ARZ) - 36 tkl Christian Benford (5-173/22 - IND) - 24 tkl 1 int Nazeeh Johnson (7-259/22 - KC/PS) - Developmental stash DB: My safety group is quite solid. Bates is probably the best safety in the game even if he's having a down year and both Reid and Hooker are solid. Moore is a nice athlete with some experience so he's not breaking me as a #4 and his demotion to special teams. I do wish Hooker would stay healthy because he's a stud when he's on the field. Jessie Bates III (2-52/18 - CIN) - 63 tkl 3 int Justin Reid (FA/22 - KC) - 77 tkl Amani Hooker (4-116/19 - TEN) - 41 tkl 1 int Tarvarius Moore (3-86/18 - SF) - 7 tkl SPECIAL TEAMS (3) I can't complain much about special teams and the one spot I feel needs an upgrade, long snapper, is damned difficult to gauge plus you're probably not going to draft one. We're fine here. K Harrison Butker (FA/17 - KC) - 34/37 xp 17/23 fg P Tommy Townsend (UDFA/20 - KC) - 49 pnt 2,476 yds 45.5 net 19 in20 LS James Winchester |
You've had some good home run picks, kccrow. Guys like Aaron Jones and Matt Judon and Jessie Bates form a great core.
There's something that's really satisfying in this game about making a really good pick, because it helps you for years. And this game also makes it clear about how hard it is to make good picks. I think I've done reasonably okay drafting, and every year I feel good about my draft, and then most of them flame out fast. |
Quote:
Definitely, great points on how difficult it is, and flaming out or not becoming what you expect is a huge hurdle. An example for me is Teven Jenkins. I expected him to at least be a good RT if he didn't work out at LT. Instead, he ends up at RG where I already have two high-quality players. That's a tough one. I think the other thing it shows is that you better be patient with picks developing. You're usually not getting a lot in year 1, or even in year two. Hell, some guys, such as Sieler and Okoronkwo, didn't even really contribute much until year 4. It's tough to balance the patience when you're making decisions on who to retain on the 53. |
Quote:
I've got Jordan Poyer, who is a pro bowler now, and he was my 53rd guy more than once in his early years when he was not playing much. I barely kept him a couple of times, and it ended up paying off. I also have some memory of drafting Lawrence Guy and cutting him after a couple of years of not much happening. He was getting cut and bouncing around between teams and it seemed like he was a goner in the NFL. It took him four teams to get a starting opportunity and now he's still starting 12 years later. I think I cut him back in 2014 or so. |
Dang. I'm also seeing that I drafted Geno Smith and eventually cut him.
|
I'm still new... But two drafts in not a lot to hang my hat on!

Okay, year in review.
This is undoubtedly my worst season ever, due to a quarterback collapse and a weak defense. The rest of my offense was probably the strongest group that I've fielded, with a lot of strengths and no glaring weakness. But if you don't have a quarterback, you're doomed. My defense entered a rebuilding phase. The defensive backfield was okay, and my defensive ends were solid. But I was abysmal at defensive tackle and linebacker. We have a lot of work to do. My draft needs next year are: 1. Quarterback. I really have to hope for a rebound by Russell Wilson. 2. Defensive tackle. I need both bodies and quality here. I was able to ignore this position forever, and then they all left the league at once. 3. Linebacker. I've never had success at LB, and I draft them constantly. I'll keep trying, and I actually may look better if my two rookies of Chenal and Nakobe Dean develop. Somehow I also need to find a WR1 and an ascending CB atop those things. Quarterback Russell Wilson Sam Ehlinger Carson Strong (Rookie) What can I say here? Russell Wilson fell off a cliff. Ehlinger got a few starts midseason to see if he could improve things, but he was even worse. I'm going to have to do something drastic in the draft going forward. Running Back Isaih Pacheco (Rookie) Alvin Kamara Rashaad Penny Ronald Jones II I had a good 1-2 punch with Pacheco and Kamara. The running game worked this year. Penny always looks really good in the handful of games that he plays before going on IR for the year. My running back room was decent. Fullback Michael Burton Okay. Wide Receiver Juju Smith-Schuster Donovan Peoples-Jones Marquez Valdez-Scantling Terrace Marshall Khalil Shakir (Rookie) Justin Watson James Washington I actually improved notably here this year. Juju and Donovan and Marquez were serviceable starting receivers as a platoon. Terrace has been disappointing, but is a viable #4 WR. Shakir got a few catches, as did Justin Watson, so my group was pretty deep. James Washington is going to need a miracle to make the team next year as a second-round bust. Tight End Travis Kelce Blake Bell Grant Calcaterra (Rookie) Kelce is awesome. Bell was injured most of the year, so Calcaterra was my non-impactful #2 TE. He's developing, though. Offensive Tackles Orlando Brown, Jr. Morgan Moses Geron Christian Lucas Niang, G/T Brown and Moses were pillars at tackle for me. My depth was questionable but I never needed it. I was strong here. Guard Wyatt Teller Trey Smith Joe Thuney These guys were all great. Teller and Smith each missed a little time, but with three great guards I had no dropoff. Center Cody Whitehair Whitehair was solid. He missed a few games, so one of my guards would've needed to move inside for a few games. Kicker Harrison Butker He had a rough year with injuries, but was good when he played. Punter Tommy Townsend All-pro! Long Snapper James Winchester Best in the business Safety Jordan Poyer Andre Cisco Justin Reid Deon Bush Poyer was a pro bowler, and Cisco and Reid gave me good depth. Solid group here. Cornerback Marcus Peters Desmond King Coby Bryant (Rookie) Amik Robertson Shaun Wade Moderately serviceable group here. Peters held down one spot, and King and Bryant were an okay 2 and 3 CB. Not great, but okay. Outside Linebacker Leo Chenal (Rookie) Anthony Nelson Zach Baun Elijah Lee Cameron McGrone This was an area of major weakness. Chenal is ascending, but was a rookie, and Nelson is a part-time pass rusher. The other guys are all used car salesmen next year. Inside Linebacker Nakobe Dean (Rookie) Terrible. I figured he would be a Week 1 starter, and he barely played all year. Defensive end George Karlaftis (Rookie) Yetur Gross-Matos Dorance Armstrong Carlos Dunlap Ifeadi Odenigbo I finally have a starting-caliber defensive end in Karlaftis, and Gross-Matos started all 17 games as well. Dorance Armstrong is a strong pass rusher, and Dunlap is a good rotational guy. Odenigbo can play in a pinch. This group actually isn't bad. Defensive Tackle Andrew Billings Tershawn Wharton Kalia Davis (Rookie) Marvin Wilson Zoicks. This was a disaster. Andrew Billings hung in there all year, but Tershawn was hurt early and the other two never saw the field. I probably would've had to move Dunlap inside. |
Quote:
I think you're going to have a much better 2022 draft though. Breece Hall looked really good before he got hurt. Karlaftis is going to be good, I think. Moore, we'll get a read on him next year. Travis Jones looked better and better as the year rolled along. I think he's going to be quite good for you as he gets more experienced. Cross got a couple starts this year. Give him some time, he might turn out. |

Rainman, your inability to fix the DT spot is going toe-to-toe with mine hahaha.
You might need to swing for the fences at LB a couple of times. Fix your QB spot and get those 2 things up to snuff and I think you'll be right back on track. |

My draft needs this year are:
1. Quarterback. I'm screwed. 2. Defensive tackle 3. Outside linebacker. 4. Cornerback 5. Maybe inside linebacker if Dean doesn't step up. 6. Wide receiver. I have a lot of holes to fill this year. Hopefully the Chiefs pick up some free agents in these areas to help me out. |
Quote:
Maybe Sean Payton works some magic with Russ (doubtful) but that said... If Hendon Hooker is within range, that's the guy I'd take a huge swing on. All 4 years he got snaps he was over 60% completion percentage and that grew each year to 68 and almost 70% the past 2 years as a starter. He's had a combined 5 Ints over the past 2 years. He's athletic. He can make all the throws. He's 25 but he just might be the best QB in the draft if not for that ACL tear. Age works against him more than injury IMO. |

So this is probably not the fantasy game for me. |

I'll note, though, that I started this in part to see if I could outperform the then-Chiefs management team with only a single draft magazine. I don't follow college football at all. But I find it fun to start reading about the players pre-draft and make my picks. It's kind of addictive once your team differentiates from the real Chiefs. |

I asked ChatGPT to write a 2023 press release for the Tacoma Trash Pandas…
(Tacoma, WA) - The Tacoma Trash Pandas are proud to celebrate their third year as an NFL expansion franchise. Since its inception, the team has been backed by a core investment group led by MacKenzie Scott, Bill Gates, Tony Parker, and the estate of late rapper DMX. The ownership group's commitment to spurring economic development and opportunity in Tacoma has resulted in the team becoming a beloved fixture in the city's cultural landscape. Their fan favorite logo is a staple on cars and billboards across the metro. The Trash Pandas have not only brought a new level of excitement and passion to the NFL, but they've also had a significant impact on the local community. Thanks to the generous contributions of Scott and Gates, the team's state-of-the-art stadium was built entirely through private funding. This investment has not only provided a world-class facility for the team but has also created new job opportunities and economic growth in the region. As a direct result of this private investment, Tacoma is seeing a boost in population growth and was recently identified by Forbes as one of America’s best cities for relocation. In addition to their philanthropic efforts, the ownership group's commitment to excellence has translated to the field, with the team enjoying a successful run in the NFL. Under the guidance of General Manager Kellerfox, the Trash Pandas have built a unique roster that has captured the attention of football fans across the country. As the team enters its third year, the ownership group remains committed to driving positive change in the Tacoma community and continuing the Trash Pandas' success on the field. Fans can look forward to another exciting season of Trash Pandas football and continued investment in the city of Tacoma. |
Here is a ChatGPT pre-draft assessment from the perspective of a beat writer…
(Tacoma, WA) - With the NFL draft quickly approaching, fans of the Tacoma Trash Pandas are eagerly anticipating what General Manager Kellerfox has in store for the team. After a successful season that saw the Trash Pandas establish themselves as a competitive force in the league, the team's biggest needs heading into the draft are at wide receiver, offensive tackle, linebacker, cornerback, and safety. At wide receiver, the team is thin after trading Tyreek Hiil away last season. They desperately needs a playmaker who can take some of the pressure off Mahomes and make plays downfield. With several talented receivers available in the draft, it's essential that the Trash Pandas select a player who can make an immediate impact and help the team take the next step towards playoff contention. On the offensive line, the Trash Pandas need to address their need at tackle, where they lack depth and talent. Protecting quarterback Patrick Mahomes is paramount, and the team needs to invest in an offensive tackle who can anchor the line and keep Mahomes upright. With several top prospects available in the draft, the Trash Pandas should look to address this need early on and solidify their offensive line for years to come. At linebacker, the Trash Pandas need to find a player who can fill the void left by the departure of veteran Anthony Hitchens. While the team has some promising young talent at the position, they lack a true standout player who can make plays in both the run and pass game. With several talented linebackers available in the draft, the Trash Pandas should look to address this need and add a player who can make an immediate impact on defense. In the secondary, the Trash Pandas need to add depth at both cornerback and safety. While the team has some talented players at these positions, injuries and lack of experience have been a concern in recent seasons. With several top prospects available in the draft, the Trash Pandas should look to add depth and talent to their secondary and give defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo the tools he needs to craft a dominant defense. Overall, the Trash Pandas have some critical needs heading into the draft, but with a solid roster and talented coaching staff, the team is well-positioned to make some smart moves and continue their upward trajectory. Fans can look forward to seeing what GM Kellerfox and the Trash Pandas have in store come draft day. |
I am NOT trading for Toney (I want to, but I need to diversify my roster further from the Chiefs to maximize enjoyment of this game)

I'm not feeling much pressure this offseason.
Notes... I'm still nervous with my OT situation but Raimann made some big strides at the end of last year at LT and so Taylor would be coming in a RT for me. I should address depth. The last thing I need is to whiff and end up with another G/C because I'm more than good on that front. I have a good group of WRs but lack a true start/WR1 type. I haven't exactly knocked it out of the park at DT lately. Madubuike and Seiler are a solid set of starters but whiffing on Blacklock and Nixon hurts. I need better depth at least. I have holes at backup QB, 3rd RB, and FB (although I probably don't retain one and keep a guy elsewhere). Other than that I'd feel like this roster is pretty much nails (toot toot). These are my losses: QB Chad Henne - Retired RB Ronald Jones II - FA Loss OT Geron Christian - Waived WR JuJu Smith-Schuster - FA Loss RT Andrew Wylie - FA Loss FB Michael Burton - FA Loss WR Justin Watson - FA Unsigned DE Carlos Dunlap - FA Unsigned Here's the roster as it stands:
Spoiler!
I'm also not accepting the trade for Toney so my draft picks will be: 1 31 2 63 3 95 3 100 4 134 5 166 6 209 6 217 7 249 7 250 |

So, you lose JuJu, OBj, Watson, and Dunlap for sure. The Chiefs cut Christian, Clark, Lee, and Carter, and traded Fenton so they would be fair game to keep if you had them on your roster last year. Ross was signed last year so unless you drafted him or kept him on your roster as a FA signing you can't pick him up now. |
Quote:
You can add any guy to your roster that the Chiefs signed as a free agent after we did our final 53 cuts. You can accept or reject any trades as long as you have the exact trade resources that were given up. |
Thanks for the clarification, I'll get it updated! About half that list falls off (Juju, Watson, and Dunlap) - and the other half (Christian, Lee, Carter, Fenton) are likely cuts for me post camp.
Confirming - do I/we lose OBJ since I/we spent draft picks to acquire him (via trade)? Think the three of us as the current active owners are all on the same page now (minus my OBJ question above)… but it might be worth updating rule #3 in the OP for any future new owners as it can be interpreted to suggest that Chiefs FA acquisitions acquired after our first season can be retained. |

We traded to get Orlando, but we could have chosen to reject that trade. Allowing him to leave as a free agent means we get no compensation. If they had cut him, we could vote to keep him instead. Am I missing some other nuance? |

I can read your post as being for or against that. Is your stance that you and I keep or lose OBJ? Edit: this would be so much easier to hash out over a happy hour. It’s my stance that the NFL should be funding a Chiefs Planet Alternate Reality Game owners retreat once per quarter. |

I dunno. I think we have to lose a player when he walks, regardless of how we got him. We know the risk when we make the trade.
If you both disagree, you can overrule me and we'll go with it. But my call would be that Brown walks just like he did with the Chiefs. |

Now that the game is mature, I could see us stopping the rule for the Chiefs leaving. However, if we don't ever lose free agents, can we still pick them up when the Chiefs sign them? It seems like that's double-dipping, but then again my teams aren't really getting stronger over time from what I can tell. So maybe we no longer lose free agents at all? |
Quote:
I think if you spend draft capital (via trade or selection) on a player, you should have the right to make the decision on whether or not to keep him or let him go regardless of what team he is on. We don't lose guys we pick that jump to other teams, it should be no different if they are Chiefs. I would argue to balance this, changing the rule about Chiefs' cuts. If you did not spend draft capital to acquire a player the Chiefs cut, then you should lose that player. Historically that's been an allowed keep (such as with Justin Houston, etc) since the rules have revolved around free agents that are allowed to just walk. |
(Apologies if my post comes across rude - not my intention. I standby my comment that our discussion would work so much better over an NFL sponsored owners retreat… or a good ole fashion happy hour)
So, as I relates to OBJ, I’m going to keep him and certainly won’t object if Rainman does as well. Re-reading your OP Rainman, the only potentially pertinent text/rule I see is “You lose any free agent that the Chiefs lose, but only if they were on the Chiefs' roster when you began playing.” OBJ wasn’t on the Chiefs roster when I started, and I invested draft capital in acquiring him, so to me he fits the implied exclusion in that rule. To me, he was a draft pick, and I was operating under the assumption at the time (based on my interpretation of the rules) that I would get to keep him even if he left. If I had understood the rules differently, I likely would have drafted a tackle instead of making the trade. Though admittedly, I probably would have taken Tevin Jenkins which would have been a huge flop lol. As for the other potential adjustments… my vote would be for the following: 1. If you draft a player who was taken by a non-Chiefs team, you can keep them for perpetuity (perpetuity = until you decide to cut them or they retire). 2. If you draft a player who the Chiefs also take, you can also keep them for perpetuity. Summary: if you draft a player, you keep them regardless. 3. If you trade for a player the Chiefs also trade for, and you use draft picks, you keep the incoming player for perpetuity (ex: our OBJ debate). 4. If you trade for a player the Chiefs trade for, but it’s a player-for-player swap, you lose the incoming player when they are cut or leave in FA (unless you actually drafted the departing player, ex: if the Chiefs traded Creed Humphrey for one year of Justin Jefferson and then let Jefferson walk, I could still keep Jefferson because I personally drafted Humphrey). 6. If a Chief who was on your roster at the start of the game departs (FA or cut) - you lose them. 7. If a Chiefs FA signing you add departs (FA or cut) - you lose them. Summary: Easy come, easy go. Aside from rebelling and keeping OBJ, I’m happy to play by whatever rules going forward. I greatly appreciate you orchestrating this game (and the MANY other contributions you make to this board Rainman). Let us know what you think the best rules are for the game at this stage, and I’ll duck in line! |
