Not giving up on this team. Unlikely, but I'll still go for the ride.

Doubt we can catch Cleveland, but only 6.5 back in the WC, which is doable. That can change if we sweep Cleveland at some point.

9 games back, 42 to play. Would need to be a ridiculous run, but the Royals do have a flair for the dramatic.

9 games behind Cleveland is a real mountain to climb. There are a bunch of teams ahead of us in the wild card... but I still feel better about 6.5 back over 9 back. The Yankees and Astros are two of those teams and only a game ahead of us. A solid next week or two, and we could realistically jump several of those teams and only have the Mariners between us and the last spot heading into September.

Plus if we caught the Orioles and knocked them out of the playoffs their fans would probably have to check into a clinic.

The Chiefs have a legit shot at winning the division. I still think it's more likely that the Royals win the World Series than the Chiefs win the Super Bowl.

I feel like passing all those wildcard teams is too much to ask even with the smaller margin. Cleveland is a bigger climb but we have six games left with them, all of which are towards the end of the season. If we got to around 5 games back by the time that first series starts then we have a true chance.

The Yankees and Astros are 1 game ahead of us. The Tigers are only 3.

The Red Sox and Orioles still have to play each other seven times. Somebody has to lose those games. We also have three games vs. the Red Sox. The Red Sox just started an 11 game road trip, and still have a 9 game road trip plus a 10 game road trip in September.

Only catch is the Mariners. Their schedule doesn't look too bad, but they're only 4 games ahead of us too. That's manageable. The two teams that are way out ahead of us still have to play each other a lot. That 2nd wild card really helps. Obviously the first priority is the division though, no doubt. But a good chunk of those wild card teams can be passed by Sept. 1st if we truly stay hot.

I'm not getting too excited yet but if we somehow made the playoffs in any fashion it would be glorious hearing about all of the other team's fans complaining about us coming back from the dead to defend the title. Nobody would want to play us.

Why Not? 08-17-2016 09:23 PM

Go 30-12 and make the playoffs no matter what anyone else does. Maybe 28-14 does it. That's most likely the minimum number of wins it will take to make it in the tournament.

I don't care how much you love your Royals, that is a stupid statement this year.

I fully believe we've reached our ceiling with Andy, Smith and Sutton.

You ever watch the Chiefs before?

If we sweep the Twinkies then you will start feeling the bandwagon getting loaded again.

An Alex Smith led team is never winning a SB.
