Wow, 360 and PS3 versions of the game have been pirated. But not PC (yet...).

( LMAO )

When that dev build of Crysis 2 leaked a few weeks ago, EA was quick to condemn the PC gaming community, saying that piracy “continues to damage the PC packaged goods market and the PC development community.” I do wonder whether EA will be as quick to condemn console piracy now that Dragon Age 2, to be released next week, has also leaked. That’s right: the Xbox 360 version is now floating around out there, so it’s clear to me that console owners should now be subjected to the same kind of silly DRM that PC owners have had to put up with for years now.

The game can now be found wherever you find such things, and any 16-year-old with a free afternoon can figure out how to rig his Xbox 360 to run it flawlessly.

But no, PC gamers are the ones responsible for the collapse of the industry, right?

Please.

UPDATE Well look at that, the PS3 version has now leaked, according to a famous, owl-mascotted database. And we all know how terribly difficult it is to jailbreak a PS3, right? Oh, wait: it takes less than five minutes. So that’s both console versions leaking on the same day, and both before the PC version. But again, PC gamers are somehow responsible for the world’s injustices. Give me a break.

To be fair, if you mod your 360, you can kiss using it to play on XBL goodbye. I guess if you got two of them, you can mod one and play this pirated version.

Exactly. Consoles are always going to be a bitch of a pirating platform, so those writer's little quips are way off.

I still haven't decided whether to DL DOA2 from Piratebay for PC or buy it for the ol' 360.

I think the quips were more about EA earlier saying the pirating of PC games is the downfall of all game development, and probably western culture as we know it.

People have also been saying silly things like "PC gaming is dying" for years (last year was the biggest year in PC gaming history, believe it or not, over 16 billion in sales worldwide).

I actually think downloadable sales have probably done more to fight piracy than DRM. It's certainly fueled the growth of PC sales. I know I haven't purchased a boxed game in literally years now (I think Fallout 3 in 2008 was the last). And it's probably been since 2006 since I...acquired anything PC game related through...illicit channels.

I'm not saying that PC gaming is dying or dead, I'm just saying that I agree with EA that piracy greatly hurts PC gaming industry's profits while leaving the console market relatively unscathed.

Well, EA's basically been coming across like they're going to stop making PC games because everybody pirates them. Little bit of overkill I'd say.

That said, I do not condone piracy, obviously, and I don't download games myself. If anybody kills PC gaming, it'll be EA themselves by doing reeruned shit like not allowing PC gamers access to DLC like they have with Dead Space 1 and 2.

(personal pet peeve...)

Legends open beta coming soon sounds like:
Quote:

We will be performing the final data wipe on all current Dragon Age Beta players on Wednesday, March 8th, 2011 at ~12AM. When we reset player data, any Crowns you purchased will be added back to your account. Crown items purchased after the final reset will be permanent and will NOT be added back to your account from a reset.

We will also be announcing how to unlock the items for Dragon Age 2 soon.

I'm using EA Download Manager for this one.

A patch allowed you to access some of the DLC for Dead Space 2 (the weapons, suits, etc).

Would that be the patch that finally unlocked the elite suits for PC?

(I'd finished the game three times before it was patched...)
