Why can't there be some limitation on Prison's posting ability? Make it so he/she/it can only post in DC threads.

So if the Royals eke into the WC by 1 game and lose at Baltimore and Shields blows out his arm and doesn't pitch next year while Myers becomes a perennial 30hr guy, we....won?

And conversely if we barely miss it but Shields wins 15 next year while Myers goes on to be mediocre at best, we still lost?

If we can just finish the season playing .600 to .630 ball, we'll be in good shape

Just shows how much of a killer May was...if they had been just .500 in May (which would still have May as their worst month), they would be in first place, or not too far behind.

If the Royals have Myers on the team this year, I think they lose 85-90 games again, which would also be a loss.

Archie F. Swin 08-13-2013 10:31 AM

I just happened to get in a baseball discussion on another forum I visit (a drummer's forum), and here's a comment I got from a Rays fan back in mid-May.

"You can thank my favorite team for James Shields. This is going to sound off, and it has nothing to do with how he's pitching right now, but I really wish the Rays would have traded David Price instead of James Shields.

I know they're completely different pitchers, but James is a great leader and really has a knack for creating a brotherhood amongst the pitching staff. He's also an innings eater. It's no wonder Tampa Bay's bullpen has been overused and under-performing. No one could have predicted David Price was going to slump so badly this year. Under contract through 2015 (arbitration eligible in '14 and '15), the Rays could have robbed someone's farm system. As for our end of the Shields/Davis/Johnson trade...it sounds like the Rays will have Will Myers finish his career in Durham. They're so slow to promote position players. All I hear is that "he's not ready"."

Ditto. I hope that keeping him this year was worth it (it seems to have been so far), and it would be even better if Glass opens up the checkbook and keeps him around beyond this year.

Yes, though every now and then I enter into DC to see what muck is being slung around, so I don't want to just ignore every post by some people, just posts outside of DC.
Anyway, back to Royals!

The last time the Royals won 17 out of 20 games, George Brett went 3-3 with 3 walks to raise his average to .406 and beat Texas, back in 1980.

Think of it like this. If they don't make the playoffs, surely they will eventually in franchise history. Youll have this awesome vintage Royals tee from 2013, celebrating making the playoffs in 2046.

Sertelli is batting .303 against RHP which is what the current infielders (except Hos) are lacking. But, he has the same issue Colon has. Neither is on the 40 man roster.

Carrol is batting over .300 against lefties. Sertelli is batting about .260 against lefties which is better than either Getz (who bats LH) and EJ who is a switch hitter. I'd get rid of EJ, play Sertelli at 3rd every day and platoon Getz and Carrol at 2nd.

They'll probably wait until September call ups, and by that time it may be too late. This five game set coming up in Detroit could be make or break time. If we lose 4 of 5, we're cooked. If we win 4 of 5, we're still in it.

Dude. If we win 4 of 5 in Detroit then we are balls deep in it.

mr. tegu 08-14-2013 10:56 AM

Here are the team schedules through Sunday.

Royals - 1 vs Miami, 5 at Detroit
Indians - 1 vs Minnesota, 3 at Oakland
Detroit - 1 at Chicago, 5 vs KC
Oakland - 2 vs Houston, 3 vs Cleveland
Tampa - 2 vs Seattle, 3 vs Toronto
Baltimore - 1 at Arizona, 3 at Colorado

This is were we we can make up some serious ground since we have more games than everyone else except Detroit.

Sucks that we also have the most injuries

CaliforniaChief 08-14-2013 11:08 AM

We all want to win today and sweep Detroit.

But realistically, I'm hoping for a win today and 3 out of 5 from the Tigers. That would be, in my opinion, a great week and put us in a great position for a run.

Switch hitting 2nd. Batting .161 vs LHP. Batting .235 vs RHP. Hopefully EJ will be gone to make room for him.

I figured it was a response to Tejada going on the 60 day DL. But isn't Carrol here because he is on the 15 day DL? All these moves are getting confusing.

Was anyone listening to Kietzmann a while ago when he was discussing Tejada? The teasers that were put out on Twitter make it look like he was using Adderall after his therapeutic use exemption expired.

He also insinuated that his injury may not be legit or is being intentionally overblown.

NM I see it was covered in the game thread. Hearsay, as I expected.

Welp, Ned said Moose's best case scenario is to PH on Saturday. I would say that means we shouldn't expect to seem him. So with him out, Carrol playing third, and Cain out, we are looking at a best case scenario to steal two games in the series.
