The idea of conserving all of our cap space for guys who might be worthy of extensions down the road goes against everything we’ve been talking about since Mahomes was selected.

Look at what the Seahawks and Eagles did, and now the Rams. They had or have QBs on cheap contracts and they spent big on the rest of their roster because there is no better window to win than the one that involves a QB on a rookie contract.

And now we’re supposed to be passive with FA because a few guys on the current roster might need big paydays in 2-3 years? I’m sorry, that’s a loser mentality.

BTW—the Eagles have jack and shit for cap space right now. Seems to be working out ok.

Could not have said it better.

The Eagles are doing the exact opposite of what people who want to pay Sammy Watkins big money on a long term deal want to do.

This team has been crippled by huge contracts hurt, older players on mega contracts. Eagles went away from that:

Daryl Worley-rookie contract
Jay Ayaji-rookie contract
Ronald Darby-rookie contract
Torrey Smith-mid level contract
Alain Jeffrey-1 year prove it deal
Chance Warmack-cheap contract
Chris Long-cheap contract
LaGarrette Blount-cheap contract
Nick Foles-cheap contract
Timmy Jernigan-rookie contract

Veach is doing this too with Reggie Ragland, Buttkicker and Kendall Fuller. He isn’t torpedoeing the cap on a huge long term deal that straps us to a player to hold us hostage.

Alshon Jeffery just signed a huge contract with Philly.

He signed an extension in December after proving he was a good fit for the Eagles

Yes they did but that’s 1 player. It’s okay to do that but you need to be extremely picky.

Dane’s point is right. I am not confortable giving a huge long term deal to Watkins bc of the reasons Dane pointed out.

2 year deal with a way out? Sure. Long term contract that could force us to pay him dead money for years? Nope

Mother****erJones 03-09-2018 03:23 PM

The Browns are expected to trade for Dolphins WR Jarvis Landry.

Mecca 03-09-2018 03:23 PM

Dude Timmy Jernigan signed a 4 year 48 million dollar deal right after they traded for him.

Chargem 03-09-2018 03:24 PM

I dunno, if there are injury / motivation / locker room concerns about Watkins, that probably brings his price down? I'm fine with the Chiefs being in on him, as long as they don't end up in a bidding war. I wouldn't mind having him at $7-8 mil a year for a few years, if he (or Robinson) can't be had on that kind of deal then oh well, no biggie.

I'd like an offense upgrade, but I'd still rather have FA on the defense side of the ball.

Give me Avery Williamson, Rashaan Melvin and Dominique Easley and I'd be happy. If we got those 3 I'd even consider an offense pick in the 3rd round, rather than the 4th.
